anybody else in Korea right now?
I'm kind of at a loss because I don't know where all the awesome things are, and I don't speak a word of the language - and neither does the friend I'm staying with.

Hook it up, sons!
I am apparently one stop from the electronics district though. Going there in an hour or so.

it definitely would be!
I wonder if I'd make it back out. I'm guessing they speak even less english there. I really want to go some day, and see what the 50s were like. and also get stared at and heckled.

Wait, I can do that last bit in any asian country. In Japan I can yell back though!

I am laughing pretty hard at this thread because of how it's degenerated into anything that's even remotely related to Korea.

Also, don't go into a PC bang or else you'll get cancer and die of Starcraft poisoning.

dude you need to spend twelve hours or so in a korean sauna, just taking really hot fucking baths, steaming in a fucking horrifyingly hot sauna (like 200 degrees fahrenheit) and then jumping in near-freezing water before taking another hot bath et cetera repeat for like six hours et cetera

Oh, hey, if you find any neat doujin game things, bring some back and share with me. :o

I remember waaaay back when I went to Korea, there was a lot of self-published games being made for the PC by small groups. It was kind of neat, though I doubt that exists today there.

My father is going to korea at the end of the month.

I'm thinking about Korean BBQ and Karaoke for my birthday this week.

Korea has pretty awesome food.

what guy?

Deguy. Sebastien Deguy. Gama did an interview with him in the past ( http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11525 ), and I emailed him ten or eleven questions regarding some new stuff that his company's working on.

From everything I have read, tour groups of foreigners are treated quite well. After all that is probably the only outside money coming in (with the excpetion of shady backroom dealings that the DPRK engages in). Just act respectfully around the statues of Kim Il Sung.

as long as you don't tell anyone you're a film director or cartoon animator, chances are low of being enslaved

I've read similar, but I've also read that unless you're from russia, vietnam, or china (or another communist/post-communist country) you can't really even get on a tour in the first place?

They don't allow many Americans in. Only over the last couple years have they begun to do so on a very limited basis. I'm not sure what it takes to get in; if being a compact grindcore journalist clad in all-black would actually help you get in, or just ensure that you never, ever get in ever.
