Yeah, not to sound like a broken record, but what everyone says is true; make contacts. The vast majority of jobs in the vast majority of fields are got because someone knew someone or someone reccomended someone. Not in an unfair, sinister, "you need the right connections" kind of way. Just that that's the way positions get filled. Most jobs (or at least jobs where you make any money) just don't have the time or inclinations to post on help-wanted style avenues. Its a lengthy, sometimes costly process that doesn't always pan out.
Its strange because its getting to the point that the school you went to almost doesn't matter anymore. College enrollment in the US has skyrocketed as has the number of various institutions you can go to. There's so many now that no one knows which schools are good or bad. Really the most you can tell is if its a community college (lol) or not. The sole exceptions being top-tier ivy league places that everyone has heard of (Harvard) or shitty schools that have highly visable foot-ball teams (Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio, etc). Not really related, just an aside.
Also, I'd like to disagree with the craiglist reccomendation. I'm not in a technical field, and perhaps where I live just sucks, but I've applied to dozens and dozens of jobs over the years on craigslist and have never had anything really pan out.
So yeah Kap, it sounds kinda like you're doing what you need to be doing. Good luck! And good luck to you too Broco! I hope you do well on Friday when you go to see the Riddler or whoever to solve his puzzles! _________________
