My friend needs to create a website for his art. Unfortunately he has no idea what he needs and has no html training, and he doesn't want to pay someone else to make it. I can help with the graphics and some of the html, but I was wondering, isn't there some sort of website building program for amateurs?
Also, and this is where I have no clue, what is a good webspace service? I am sure he doesn't need much space or a high bandwidth amount, so what should someone just looking to post art go for as far as price?
Much obliged. _________________ “We completely understand the public’s concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population, but that is not our mission,” - Harry Schoell, Cyclone Power Technologies Inc, in response to erroneous reports about a robot under development. |

| Nvu is a decent, free, open-source web editor. it generates rather clunky and awful HTML, but i doubt he cares. |

there are lots of free, flexible, easy packages available designed specifically for artists looking to showcase their work!
this is probably exactly what he wants
(for some reason i can't think of what any of them are called though) |

You should probably tell him to learn flash. It's what all the cool kids are using these days, plus lots of websites use it for random flashy junk that's cool to whoever creates it and annoying to anyone else. Aside from that, if it's a blog, he should use Wordpress. If it's just something to display art... well, he should still probably use Wordpress. _________________

I would also recommend WordPress or Blogger and that he create a blog-style site with premade styles. It's easier to pick a tasteful theme and post. Plus, if he gets some training or no someone who does, there is the possibility of HTML/CSS customization later on.
I'm a web designer, developer, blah blah blah, for what it's worth, and I think with some basic tweaks even a fairly standard Wordpress or Blogger site can look pretty nice and function equally well.
EDIT: upon looking at Google Pages, I think this might be a very viable option too.
EDIT EDIT: I just made these two pages in five minutes. If it allows some WYSIWYG style/colour editing, this could be very nice indeed! _________________ Illustration Portfolio | The Gamer's Quarter |

Guys he didn't like google pages, so I guess he is being picky now. _________________ “We completely understand the public’s concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population, but that is not our mission,” - Harry Schoell, Cyclone Power Technologies Inc, in response to erroneous reports about a robot under development. |

| If he didn't like Google Pages, then he's probably not going to like Drupal either. It's a very nice piece of software, but also way overkill for what he is trying to do. |

Doesn't he have some free web space given by his ISP? Pretty much anyone should have such a thing.
For making a website, pretty much all WYSIWYG editors suck. They produce garbage.
Wordpress abuses XHTML. Doesn't resize nicely either. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Both problems are pretty easy to rectify. _________________
