|
|
...is pretty neat! This is all stuff built-into it, and I'm still messing around with customizing it:
Anybody tried it? Impressions? Hell, while we're at it, have any favorite extensions you'd like to share?
[LINK]
Edit - Okay... elaborating a bit... the GUI now has a "Layout Editing Mode Toggle" button, that allows you to drag/drop/replace elements of the GUI, and you can add tabs to any element to switch between other components. Plus it has a few built-in themes and color schemes for people like me who are lazy and took two years of using Foobar just to install ColumnsUI. There's also a tool that allows you to muck around with the UI layout without actually appending changes to the program itself. They've also updated the playlist system with new colums, refined search tools, and a playlist manager for those who like ColumnsUI's default playlist management better than the old Foobar default.
The embedded artwork support that's now built-in seems to grab artwork from the internet as well, assuming the album title is typed properly in the metadata. Oh, and there's a spectrograph now.

Foobar seems neat, but also huge. My Winamp config is tiny:
If I can't keep it that small and pretty looking, then it's not for me.
Maybe there's a Foobar utility that lets me use Winamp skins? But then I might as well just continue using Winamp. _________________

Foobar is ugly. All my music is AAC / Mp3.
I think that Winamp 5.5 is a much better program, you have the smart playlists and organization of iTunes with none of the bloat. _________________

I miss Foobar2000. I had a nice simple Notepad-esque window that would play anything I threw at it.
Did the fix the resource hungry EQ or did they just bloat it up with all that other stuff? _________________

Some album art is far better than the music itself. I just wish 200x album art would be interactive or at the very least reactive to the music.
Something like the flash animations that graced the milleplateaux label website. |

| Talk about the new features in the beta. Nothing in that picture can't be done with the current stable build. |

It's way easier to configure in the new beta. When you boot it up for the first time, it gives you a bunch of preset configurations, and you can choose one and a color scheme and then go from there. It's way more convenient and useful. There's also a new feature called the scratchpad that allows you to set up your layout and fiddle around with it before applying it. It's insanely simple to use, you just right click to add new UI elements and arrange them how you want.

There's my configuration. It's pretty simple, but I like it a lot.
Featuring Classic IC color scheme! I didn't even notice that I had done that until just now. |

Here's mine as of just now. I think the color scheme needs a little work but otherwise it looks respectable enough for a program that hides in the background more often than not. God, those Sun Ra tags are a nightmare. |

When arranging your music in alphabetical order will it still put "The Beatles" in the T's instead of the B's, because that is a silly thing to do. _________________

Seriously, how is that not ugly, from an objective graphic design standpoint? The typeface is atrocious, so is the font. _________________

Which one? Mine, Panoptic's, or EmX's? |

Just stop your suffering and use iTunes for go sake.
Can't imagine wanting to listen to my music in anything else ever again, the interface, organising my mp3s sensibly for me (artist/album/trackname.mp3), music sharing is fucking genius at work or with flatmates.
even more awesome when you mix in Quicksilver and Growl _________________

EmX's looks like Norton Commander for DOS or something. Those colors are terrible.
And iTunes sucks on windows, though it's nice on OS X. It's really crappily ported, slow, and sucks up way too much resources. Winamp 5.5 has great music management features and you can still use small, compact skins, when you want to.
Also, it uses like 10mb of ram, compared to 100. _________________

That's not a bad skin, Psiga. It loses a bit when it comes to usability, though, and I can't forgive skins for doing that now; but it comes close to what I've been wanting. I guess I'll just have to make my own skin some day. _________________ The Ants Parade. |

Needs more format support, a better gapless playback solution, album-based replaygain, scriptable tagging.
Also, I hear that Darwine runs fb2k just fine. |

Yeah, understandable. I tend to not need a lot of features, as far as organization goes. "Organization."
I'd like to make my own skin some day, but I'd probably skimp on some features that other people want, too. _________________
