What's the SB consensus on The Hives?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw7agsctEcw&feature=related

I will quote a youtube dude and say that there are many bands better than The Hives, but few bands cooler.

I like them!

Youtube dude is quite right. I'm a pretty big Hives fan, but a lot of what makes them great is their attitude and arrogance.

I love that 'The Black and White Album' was originally called 'The World's First Perfect Album'.

I love their last two albums (Tyrannasaurus Hives / The Black and White Album), but I do not like the albums previous to that. The new album is fantastic, but Tyranasaurus Hives is still better.

Aren't we all over these "saving rock and roll" indie aesthetic Hives/Vines/Jet bands yet?

Except White Stripes of course, who actually rock your house off.

I don't know about all that saving rock and roll stuff. I just think the Hives are a fucking cool band, man.

(agreed on White Stripes)

(agreed on Apol's Wilco statement)

I have a serious Wilco dilemma

See I love love love Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but don't like anything else they've done really

Anybody remember when MTV ran a piece on The Vines literally calling them The Beatles meets Nirvana?

Listening to The Stooges strikes me as a more rewarding move than paying any heed to this... band and their biting, tedious, cookie-cutter early-Noughties ilk, but whatever - taste-fascism's a trait I ever strive to keep in line.

Agreeing that listening to The Stooges is rewarding, but I don't really see why either should exclude the other.

With your logic Mr. Brooks, I should only listen to my three favorite bands/musicians over and over, never paying and heed to anything else!

Actually, I think I only typed that I'd recommend listening to the Stooges over bands like The Hives (they sound similar enough to me to make the comparison, and I prefer one over the other). Which no one is obliged to do, incidentally, but I was under the impression this thread was an opinion-gathering exercise, so, uh, one was given.

There's very little logic in matters of Taste, I find.

Didn't mean to be a dick about it, if I came off that way. Was just curious if it was a distaste for modern rock in general, or if this was matter of one band over another.

Unfortunately, yeah. As much as I try not to be, I'm still sort of a music elitist. Doesn't lend well to me respecting others opinions as much as I probably should.

I actually just read that quote in an article last week and LOL'd pretty hard. Oh MTV...

Mentioning The Strokes ITT. Someone agree with me about how great they are.

I do actually but I never listen to them because the rest of those albums I don't like

The shit noise for 10 minutes on A Ghost Is Born just fucking pisses me off

I've always liked this. The Hives do a decent act and The Vines descend into screaming crazily into the mic.

Vines rule Hives suck.

The Hives are one of my favourite bands, for reasons that we've discussed once or twice before here, not least their fucking incredible live act.

Also, Randy Fitzsimmons.
