A. Recessions are necessary.
B. Presidents have little if any effect on the economy. It's mostly the Fed, followed by administrative agencies (which while technically executive have little contact with the President in their day to day operation) followed by Congress. |
A) I'm aware of that, but that doesn't make them any less problematic for Presidents; particularly during electoral years. It also doesn't make them any less easy to deal with or fix, whether accidentally or purposefully.
B) A President can have as much or as little effect on the economy as they want. I'd hardly call a President like Roosevelt as having "little effect on the economy." More than that, the housing market is down--this in particular is not indicative of good things on the horizon.
For a more recent example, President Clinton (the one who got caught on the job with a penis in his intern) deregulated the communications industry, allowing for massive monopolization (oligopolization if you want to get technical) over this past decade. This has had huge effects on the industry and its respective markets (which at this point, is basically everything), including the videogames which we so adore here.
Also, while the President is chiefly a foreign officer, their effects on Congress and The Fed are tantamount to a parent providing the baby steps needed to allow them to move. _________________
