The folders in Windows XP have long folder names themselves. Like "Documents & Settings", "Temporary Internet Files", etc. Your My Documents folder and its sub folders are under "Documents & Settings. A year back I read the summary of a comparison of long file name support in Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux. Windows supports file names as long as 255 characters. The catch is that this includes the path to the file.
