I agree with you, but I think you might be overestimating how much people value video quality. If they really gave a shit we wouldn't have the federal government shoving digital broadcast down people's throats seven years after they said they would. People would just have done it themselves.

If I had to read books on a backlit monitor on an electronic device that requires access to power I'd probably kill myself.
