The Great B-Ball Purge of 2041, a day so painful to some that it is referred to only as the "B-Ballnacht". Thousands upon thousands of the world's greatest ballers were massacred in a swath of violence and sports bigotry as the game was outlawed worldwide. The reason: the Chaos Dunk, a jam so powerful its mere existence threatens the balance of chaos and order. Among the few ballers and fans that survived the basketball genocide was Charles Barkley, the man capable of performing the "Verboten Jam"...

Flash forward 12 years to the post-cyberpocalyptic ruins of Neo New York, 2053. A Chaos Dunk rocks the island of Manhattan, killing 15 million. When the finger is put on the aging Charles Barkley, he must evade the capture of the B-Ball Removal Department, led by former friend and baller Michael Jordan, and disappear into the dangerous underground of the post-cyberpocalypse to clear his name and find out the mysterious truth behind the Chaos Dunk. Joined by allies along the way, including his son Hoopz, Barkley must face the dangers of a life he thought he gave up a long time ago and discover the secrets behind the terrorist organization B.L.O.O.D.M.O.S.E.S.

Barkley V108 download:

http://www.tomatoland.org/drdougbeach/BarkleyV108.zip

Changes in 107b:
- Fixed a bunch of game glitches
- Joypad no longer supported (Some people had problems, anyone with the 6969696 glitch this was the game trying to emulate a non-existant joypad). Use something like joy2key if you want this
- Music error fixed

Changes in 108:
- Remaining sound/music bugs fixed

How to use:
Replace the old Barkley EXE with the new Barkley EXE and ensure the dll is in the same folder as the EXE. You still need the Barkley resources, so use the topic download link if you don't have them.

Notes:
Anyone who had problems running the game should download this. The game may have one or two instances in the game where it may not play music correctly. Report if you think there is something wrong with the music playback. This is technically beta but I think it works right.

EDIT: For monitors that don't support 320x240 and you downloaded the earlier version, delete your config.txt and controls.txt if it exists.

Realistic faces move when they talk. It's like Charles Barkley is inside your computer.

Running from a ghastly specter in the b-ball catacombs.

This game is about basketball.

B-balls.

Features

  • Incredible B.A.B.B.Y. System gives you complete control over your combat actions.
  • Get out your easter basket and get ready to go hunting, because there’s Easter eggs galore in BSU&J:G! Prepare for a cavalcade of easter eggs, ranging from the mysterious to the unique.
  • One of the first games to fully utilize DirectX 10.
    DX 9:

    DX 10:

  • Game fully playable in both English and Al Bhed.
  • Riveting story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. See the Post-Cyberpocalypse like you’ve never seen it before.
  • Beautiful soundtrack composed by none other than Nobuo Uematsu exclusively for BSU&J:G!
  • Block paragraphs about basketball monsters.

A tale of zaubers, b-balls, and atonement; brave dangers unheard of, face spectacular challenges that even the greatest ballers could not overcome, and maybe... just maybe... redeem basketball once and for all in:

Tales of Game's Studios Presents Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden
Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa

Controls
z - action
x - run and cancel
c - start

The game is now in Game Maker. You can change the controls in the configuration menu, as well a lot of other things! If you want to play in windowed mode, you should probably play in scaling x2.

It will take a minute when you're starting it up, so wait a second.

Oh man, this is killing me, but I can't play it! All the options on the opening menu work except for New season, which casues the game to freeze instantly. Also the title screen is only half on-screen. Related?

Does it look like that, Swimmy? This is because of music believe it or not. Try renaming the game's "Music" folder to anything else and it should work. But don't play it like that, the music is important. We feel stupid about this but it never came up when we tested it. So yeah, sorry! We will have a fix for it soon but our programmer guy is super busy so it might be a week or something.

It is a very lame fix but the best thing I can say is... wait or play it on someone else's computer! :(

Anyway thanks for playing or wanting to play, all of you. It is lame this thread only has like six replies though. Maybe I should not have put it in Force Feedback! Anyway, it is the kind of game I would think you selectbutton types would like, so lemme see if this works: ico ico earthbound shadow of the colossus homeworld halflife half life 2 metal gear solid Pikachu literary postmodern narrative Pikachu mgs shiren killer7. Hi! Now that you are reading this thread play our video game please.

There's a bug in Cesspool X. Since the music is set to repeat the previous sewer music, if you save, quit, and restart here, the music will continue from the title screen.

That aside this is so far the greatest vidcon I've played in my life. Surely the designers were all Japanese?

Are the save machine dialogues taken from actual forum posts, or made up?

This is awesome. The dialogue is perfect, as is the use of real NBA players and the tie ins to frickin' Space Jam!

they are made up, but a few of them are based on forum posts. one of them quotes benoitren when he was talking about eroge, and the one in the b-ball dimension is what someone posted about the demo.

Is _toot.mp3 supposed to play when you blow the whistle? I get dead silence for a few seconds. I thought the game had frozen the first time.

Yeah, when the big mp3 bug got fixed the music screwed up in a few places. the 108 exe fixes it, it's in the first post. thanks for being so patient! these bugs kind of came out of nowhere for us.

edit: and oh yeah, thanks ebrey! yeah some are original but there is one that quotes benoitren talking about eroge in there. we thought those were pretty good posts. i think it's pretty close to the end.

and hell yeah wasted potential the response has been awesome and way way more than i expected. there are like 4 pretty big SA threads about it and most everything said has been pretty good. i'm very happy about it.

My question is: the only other time I've seen a title screen like that is the inside front cover of Twilight Princess's manual. Specific reference, or indicative of a larger visual trope?

GAME VIDCON OF THE Fucking YEAR, I don't care if it's just January.

...

I just finished this, yeah. I apparently skipped a portion of the game (the B-ball Dimension), but it was still a damn good time.

Okay, so maybe some of the jokes wore a little thin.

But damn.

Also, I had a bug: Hoopz's Mega Shot didn't work right. When starting it, the charge bar flashed for a fraction of a second and then it fired off a weak shot, didn't matter whether I was holding the button down or not.

Okay, I just beat the damn thing. Best game ever made this year/month, 12/10, will play again.

But seriously, I'd been dreaming of the day this game would come out since the demo. Now all I have left to look forward to is the day I can go back in time and dream about the day the demo will come out, before the idea's ever even concieved.

Jeez, guess I'm not really cut out for serious-sounding compliments. Honestly, this is the best thing to come out of indie RPG land, which I for some reason want to call RPG India.

I've been playing the shit out of this ever since the fix. I'm enjoying the hell out of it and it's getting in the way of productive work.

In fact, despite it being late, and the fact I just quit, I'm thinking of starting it up again...

Great job guys.

Congratulations! This game has been selected as a FREEWARE GAME OF THE MONTH in PCPowerPlay, Australia's leading gaming magazine!

Of course, I only had 50 words to talk about it, so I couldn't pimp it all that much. But a screenshot is next to it and it will be on the coverdisk! So, yeah! Woo! I'm sure this will be a hit all over Australia!

It's really no trouble at all! It's actually the second time you've been mentioned... in a previous INDIE GAMING article I asked various people what their favourite indie games were, and Derek Yu listed yours. This was the earlier release, obviously.

I'm certain this won't be the last time it will be talked about in print too, I'm sure other publications will appreciate it.
