|
|
A team of academics known as Digital Urban are attempting to create a virtual copy of the City of London using the Crysis mod tools. They're importing individual building meshes from SketchUp, Google's free 3D application which integrates user-submitted 3D constructions with the Google Earth software.
It's pretty basic at the moment, but I'm impressed nonetheless. _________________

Having no idea what your computer spec is, but knowing how punishing the Crytek 2 engine looks, it's probably safest to guess "no"..?
I know for certain my creaky old laptop would probably struggle just getting it installed -- never mind running the thing. So I'm certainly disappointed that I probably won't be able to see this project firsthand.
Still, it's fascinating to see people taking a serious scientific approach to making use of available videogame technology. _________________

I was just being a cranky bitch.
Yes, it is pretty exciting. Then again, scientists are nerds and they've never been averse to insinuating their hobbies into their work. Remember that Second Life hypercube? _________________
