I had a Chase card. Don't get a Chase card. I spent a grand on it and only recieved 17 dollars in rewards. Don't get a Chase card. Just don't. They don't care about you.

I suggest a Citi card. I earn an insane amount of rewards for using it that can be applied to anything from travel to electronics to interest refunds. Granted, rewards are all a ploy to get you to spend money you could be saving. My APR is a bit steep, but unless you have a credit history of some sort it, and depending on your wages, it probably won't be below 13%. Citi cards also offer you multiple benefits like hiked security without having to pay for it (unlike Chase).

I would get one of those credit cards that offer higher travel benefits but their APRs tend to be insane and the reward to dollar ratio is not really worth it.

Also, as far as how 17% interest rates are concerned, credit card companies aren't going to give you an introductory interest rate of anything much lower unless you have established credit. Granted, my Chase card was 9% but the credit line was silly. My Citi card gives me a 9,000 dollar limit, but the interest rate is about 14%. I have spotless credit as well, but it is just due to my being a student and having low wages.

And stay away from cards that aren't Visas or Mastercards. Discover, American Express, etc, may not be accepted everywhere, and Visas and Mastercards are universal.

With my Chase card, I was sent an email whenever my statement was ready. I paid my card after such an email was sent but apparently my statement wasn't ready for the month, so they put the payment on the previous statement. Then they charged me a late fee because I paid a day early. I disputed it, they said okay cool you don't have to pay the late fee, but I ended up having to anyway. So yeah. I also had their sales department calling me every 5 seconds trying to sell me credit insurance, using scare tactics such as "well we are looking your credit report right here and there is some new 'activity'". Fuck that card, I canceled it. Citi Bank is really the only huge corporation that doesn't seem to have milking their customers for all they're worth in mind.
