I think it was recorded a few years ago but is only getting released now.

Edit: Any recommendations of some drone albums that are must haves? So far all I have is Altar, Khanate (self-titled) and Things Viral.

Uhh, I wouldn't exactly call that stuff "drone" music, Captain America. If you mean like ugly/evil dronemetal, then by all means get Black One by Sunn O))) if you haven't already.

And if you want nothing but the best in brootal stoner riffage, Dopethrone by Electric Wizard.

Yeah, the Sunn 0))) albums are all actually interesting, though the tonal shifts between them can be a bit strange. White 2, for example is a lot less dark than Black One.

I really loved the newest Earth album, The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull, but it is like drone western if you can think of that. Great album though.

Actually, for more straight-up drone, if you're going to go the route of Sunn O))), I would recommend grabbing Flight of the Behemoth first of all.

People are too quick to refer to Sunn O))) when the subject of drone comes up, though, because (frankly, I think) that's all they really know. Listen to some John Cale, Alvin Lucier, and early Coil before you get into the newer stuff. Hell, even grab some Indian rāga, gamelan, or Scottish bagpipe compilations so you know where this shit is coming from. And then before you return to the Sunn O))), yes, go to Earth.

Nothing confuses me more than metal genres.

Drone western sounds like something I could really listen to though. There's a small part of Her Lips Were Wet With Venom off Altar that I'd always get excited about when I knew it was getting nearer that I'd describe in the same way.

Needless to say I'll be getting all the stuff that's been mentioned here.

Those two dudes will take you to a lot of interesting places, many of them dronemetal-related, many not.

I think you might like Nadja too. And maybe Expo '70?

Huh? Why wouldn't they count? I believe he asked for drone, not just drone metal.

If you get into Nadja, listen to The Angelic Process. These bands aren't pure drone so much as they are Godflesh/shoegaze/guitar noise (Fennesz, etc.)-influenced drum machine metal. Some people call it "metalgaze", which I think is kind of dumb (I always preferred my own "doomgaze" term, even though that's kinda silly too). Anyway, if you're asking me, The Angelic Process are/were the best band of this variety.

I just didn't picture Swans as drone, really...

I have loved what little I've heard of Nadja. It is evocative in a way matched only by classical dirges, yet more uplifting. All I own of theirs is the Tremble re-issue. Where else should I start? What about The Angelic Process, then?

Tremble is pretty nice. I would say also grab Touched 2007 and Radiance of Shadows.

Just grab anything by The Angelic Process, it's all excellent. I have their last LP in the album dump thread.

Swans are any number of things, of course. Drone is just one of them.

I really liked Thaumogenesis; I think Daymare just reissued it with Thaumoradiance as well.

Justin K. Broadrick has two new digital releases, one being a new project (Council Estate Electronics) and another a collection of a former aborted project (Krackhead).

More info, samples and purchase options here. £5 for 320kbps, £6 for FLAC.

GO!GO!7188 will release their 9th studio album titled "Antenna"(they have 2 live albums for a total of 11). Antenna is the second album to be given an english name.

The disc for the first single "Futashika Tashika" has a B-side on it called YOMEとして2008 (Literally means Bride 2008 but it more accurately means Modern Bride). I hear its a song about how modern Japanese women don't take shit for shit like the brides of old. Though, I don't really care about lyrical meanings 'nor do I understand Japanese well enough to understand them myself anyways.

The song is hilariously radical. Akko hams up the vocals big time.

The single disc has officially released in Japan and I have aquired a 320kpbs MP3 copy of it. I am now pleased to bring you YOMEとして2008.

Futshika Tashika and YOMEとして2008 are very very different from eachother and at the same time, both are a huge departure for GO!GO!7188. I have no idea what to expect on their new album Antenna.

YOMEとして2008 features lead vocal from Akko (the bassist) and backup vocals from Yuu (lead guitar) and Taki (he's the drummer).

Yeah, personally I don't know a lot of drone, coming to it backasswardsly through Boris (Dronevil is a really excellent album if you set it up though) to Sunn O))) and Earth.

Earth is interesting in how much they've (OK, well, he's) gotten away from making dronemetal into the weird western/gospel vibe of the last album, which like I said I am in love with. Miami Morning Coming Down II (Shine) is like the perfect song sometimes, really.

I will definitely be looking into the stuff listed here though, for sure.

You guys probably hate the same music as me, but the new Dopamines album is jawsome as heck. If you want pop punk about drinking yourself to death, then look no further!

Also The Measure(Sa). This band is incredible.

Get Bent rules.

I'm not familiar at all with True Sounds of Liberty, but their latest release is a free download, so I'm going to check it out.

There's also a post-rock band called Our Ceasing Voice who have a free EP as well.

...And so it was. Through the collective imagination of the people, the force of will and human potential, and an unflinching ability to hold himself to task, Niggy Tardust was liberated. His ability to see beyond the boundaries and obstacles of 'genre', 'race', and suppression, allowed him to encompass a grace and sound that embodied the all. All that had stood against him, now stood with him. All that had claimed a lesser harmony, now craved voice and resonance. He stood with poets, painters, dancers, students, children of the night who had transformed themselves into a million bright ambassadors of morning, and proclaimed,

“We declare declaratives and deny the official. Based in the landmark of the G-spot, we have overtaken ourselves and overthrown our forefathers. Let there be light within the light and let it answer to the name of Darkness. We are forever risen from the deadly: the anti-virus and the All Stars. Granted power by forces unbeknownst to us. Made in the likeness of kindness. We offer anger to the angry and fear to the fearful. We dance at our own funerals to forsake the mourners…

…This is no time to cry! This is no time at all! Here is the moment of the overlooked and the unforeseeable. We are the elected officials of the people: poets and artists. We are the declarative statement of the inarticulate, the irreparably damaged goods of the bad meaning good. We are the government! We are the government! We are the government!

Anyone happen to have some 新宿ゲバルト (Shinjuku Gewalt) or know where to get some?

I'm kind of curious, mostly because of this picture.

Charles Cooper, one of two members of Telefon Tel Aviv, has died.

Joshua Eustis wrote:
Hello, Everyone.

It breaks my heart to inform you all that Charlie Cooper, my better half in Telefon Tel Aviv, passed away on January 22nd.

We have been friends since high school, and began making records together a decade ago. We have been so fortunate to tour the world together, while at the same time having a massive amount of laughs at one another's expense.

Aside from Charlie's singular genius and musical gifts, I can tell you that he was a total sweetheart of a guy, and a loving friend and confidant to people everywhere. His musicianship was surpassed only by his greater gift to the world - his warmth, his generosity, his unquenchable humor, and his undying loyalty to those whom he loved. In the spirit of honorable mention, however, I should mention that he had a shoe collection that was marvellous, knowledge of hip-hop that was profound, and knowledge of wine that was subtle.

He is survived by a sister, a niece, a nephew, his mother, his stepfather, me, and more adoring friends than the Universe has dark matter. As such, his family and I ask for your discretion and consideration of our privacy during these extremely turbulent waters.

Yours in Music,

Joshua Eustis

It sounds nice, but can't get over the new M83-high-synth sound and the vocals. Actually I've generally felt their vocals could be stronger or dropped.

I've listened to October Language a few times now, I believe it's the other guy who's involved with that?

As I understand it, Eustis and Cooper helped the members of Belong with mastering their output.

They have two free albums out. Much shorter and less noisy.

DID YOU KNOW that Aidan Baker has some of his material up on the Internet Archives?

I'd suggest Peau Sensible and Within the Final Circle, personally.

And there's a free Nadja single, Base Fluid.

And check out S&M Combo, a noise duo using nothing but a synthesiser and a cello.

when did tv on the radio stop sucking balls?

my guess? last year, because this "dear science," is so damn good. what happened here? "return to cookie mountain" was so balls, yet now i can't stop dancing alone on my front steps and/or sitting meditatively on my bed listening. these guys have really redeemed themselves.

The real question is when you stopped sucking balls :P

Does anyone still listen to the Prodigy, and if so whats the general view on their new Invader Must Die album? I'm really liking it for my tube journey to work on Monday mornings, but I think I might still be stuck 10 years in the past with regards to dance music.. So, are they still relevant?

The album is free (though he exchanges gifts for donations) and is pretty awesome. Like the latest Qua, it takes experimental electronic music and infuses it with pop sensibilities, ending up with an album that's both interesting and entertaining.

The artist is MAD into videogames, and there is a clear influence of videogame music in his tracks, but it never actually sounds like videogame music, which is definitely a good thing and is why I enjoy it.

So yeah, check it out, dawgs.

I saw Richard Thompson at the house of Blues in New Orleans tonight. Incredible show. He does more with his one acoustic guitar than entire other bands do.
