This makes perfect sense in light of the specific creative commons licence they're using at the moment, but I hadn't realised: Nine Inch Nails' Ghosts, all four volumes so far, are up on the Internet Archives, as is The Slip.

Quite accidentally, I found Einstürzende Neubauten's new release, The Jewels, yesterday while window-shopping (I also got a bunch of Arvo Pärt because I love the composer to death from what I've heard, and I need to hear much, much more). I had no idea they were releasing new material, let alone so soon after their last album Alles wieder offen, but it was a welcome surprise, especially considering it's a collection of their short experiments previously only available on a monthly basis to members of their online supporters project. I missed out on my chance to join that when it closed off, and couldn't find these jewels on P2P. It's a welcome addition to their catalogue, by the by, and demonstrates a lot of resourcefulness on their part, after being criticised for becoming too familiar and ego-centric. Worth getting if you were let down by their most recent albums, I'd say.

Now I just hope they start releasing their Musterhaus projects too.

NIN have released over 400 gigs' worth of live footage of their Lights in the Sky tour.

I mean, yeah, that much raw footage is useless to me, but that's still exciting and there's always this: http://thisoneisonus.org/

I just didn't picture Swans as drone, really...

I have loved what little I've heard of Nadja. It is evocative in a way matched only by classical dirges, yet more uplifting. All I own of theirs is the Tremble re-issue. Where else should I start? What about The Angelic Process, then?

I'm not familiar at all with True Sounds of Liberty, but their latest release is a free download, so I'm going to check it out.

There's also a post-rock band called Our Ceasing Voice who have a free EP as well.

...And so it was. Through the collective imagination of the people, the force of will and human potential, and an unflinching ability to hold himself to task, Niggy Tardust was liberated. His ability to see beyond the boundaries and obstacles of 'genre', 'race', and suppression, allowed him to encompass a grace and sound that embodied the all. All that had stood against him, now stood with him. All that had claimed a lesser harmony, now craved voice and resonance. He stood with poets, painters, dancers, students, children of the night who had transformed themselves into a million bright ambassadors of morning, and proclaimed,

“We declare declaratives and deny the official. Based in the landmark of the G-spot, we have overtaken ourselves and overthrown our forefathers. Let there be light within the light and let it answer to the name of Darkness. We are forever risen from the deadly: the anti-virus and the All Stars. Granted power by forces unbeknownst to us. Made in the likeness of kindness. We offer anger to the angry and fear to the fearful. We dance at our own funerals to forsake the mourners…

…This is no time to cry! This is no time at all! Here is the moment of the overlooked and the unforeseeable. We are the elected officials of the people: poets and artists. We are the declarative statement of the inarticulate, the irreparably damaged goods of the bad meaning good. We are the government! We are the government! We are the government!

Charles Cooper, one of two members of Telefon Tel Aviv, has died.

Joshua Eustis wrote:
Hello, Everyone.

It breaks my heart to inform you all that Charlie Cooper, my better half in Telefon Tel Aviv, passed away on January 22nd.

We have been friends since high school, and began making records together a decade ago. We have been so fortunate to tour the world together, while at the same time having a massive amount of laughs at one another's expense.

Aside from Charlie's singular genius and musical gifts, I can tell you that he was a total sweetheart of a guy, and a loving friend and confidant to people everywhere. His musicianship was surpassed only by his greater gift to the world - his warmth, his generosity, his unquenchable humor, and his undying loyalty to those whom he loved. In the spirit of honorable mention, however, I should mention that he had a shoe collection that was marvellous, knowledge of hip-hop that was profound, and knowledge of wine that was subtle.

He is survived by a sister, a niece, a nephew, his mother, his stepfather, me, and more adoring friends than the Universe has dark matter. As such, his family and I ask for your discretion and consideration of our privacy during these extremely turbulent waters.

Yours in Music,

Joshua Eustis

As I understand it, Eustis and Cooper helped the members of Belong with mastering their output.

They have two free albums out. Much shorter and less noisy.

DID YOU KNOW that Aidan Baker has some of his material up on the Internet Archives?

I'd suggest Peau Sensible and Within the Final Circle, personally.

And there's a free Nadja single, Base Fluid.

And check out S&M Combo, a noise duo using nothing but a synthesiser and a cello.

GREYMACHINE's Disconnected comes out on the 4th of August.

However, you can already order the Japanese edition from Daymare recordings, via Inoxia.

My copy shipped this morning. I know some people have already received it. The bonus track is the the version of We Are All Fucking Liars available on the 12" single.

Also, the new jesu and Final albums are up for sale on Broadrick's own Avalanche Inc. site.

ATTN: antitype

jesu's Infinity is the best release under that moniker since Heart Ache and the self-titled album.

Also:

Caldo Verde wrote:
Justin Broadrick first emerged as a force in music as part of the band Napalm Death in the mid eighties. He then formed Godflesh which cemented his place in a genre which is variously known as extreme, grindcore or just new metal. There are however, many arrows in Justin Broadrick’s quiver. Over the last twenty years he has maintained a series of projects ranging in musical style from punk to industrial to the layered, melodic atmospherics of his current band, Jesu and it’s newest release, an EP called ‘Opiate Sun’. This ability to step outside the confines of musical convention sets him apart creatively from other writer musicians who have been working in his field over this period. Despite, or perhaps because of this stylistic diversity he has attracted an obsessively loyal fanbase and a reliably positive response from critics. The question is always, How does he sound so light while staying so heavy?

Jesu’s output has been spasmodic but of a uniform high quality. All instruments are played by Justin Broadrick and apart from the occasionally guest vocalist (Jarboe from The Swans) he handles all vocals. Two traditional sequenced albums, ‘Jesu’ in 2004, and ‘Conqueror’ in 2007 plus an album length song, ‘Infinity’, in July 2009 have been intertwined with a number of EPs. In 2008 Jesu issued one EP, ‘Why Are We Not Perfect?’ and contributed to two more split EPs with other bands. ‘Opiate Sun’ is the only Jesu release in 2009 aside from ‘Infinity’.

‘Opiate Sun’ will be released in the US and UK on Mark Kozelek’s Caldo Verde Records home of Mark’s own Sun Kil Moon and other transformative musical endeavors. Mark was captured by the strength of Justin’s performance when he saw him live in San Francisco in 2007. Therefore he was only too happy to help out when the opportunity arose to be involved in this important project.

Justin Broadrick is a native of Birmingham, England and resides in Wales. He has produced or remixed releases by Pantera, Isis, and Pelican. He also runs his own label, Avalanche Inc.

TRACK LISTING:
1. Losing Streak
2. Opiate Sun
3. Deflated
4. Morning Light

You can see the sleeve and CD design here.

On that note, could you or anyone else suggest me good places to start with the works of Mark Kozelek, whether it be his solo stuff or under Red House Painters or Sun Kil Moon?
