On the contrary, I've been hearing from people who normally dislike Radiohead that the new one is actually worthwhile. _________________

Don't take that as my recommendation, necessarily. I haven't even heard it yet, but I'm curious, too. _________________

Been a while since I actually talked about music here, but you've reminded me to do so, costel.
Vision Creation Newsun is indeed one of those albums that feels like a little odyssey. Can-inspired new psyche, or something. A unique album.
Even though I have tickets to Maryland Deathfest this May, which is something I've wanted to do for years (and I regret missing out on the last few years, when bands like Bolt Thrower, Possessed, Gorguts, Portal, etc. played), I'm just not feeling the metal so much lately. Except for maybe a little Agalloch. I know I'll be able to get in the mood for it and more importantly I'll have a great time with friends (and my gf and I will be spending several days in NYC before), but that'll have to wait. There are a bunch of bands I know I'll be excited about seeing... Lately, though, I'm mostly in the mood for post-punk and shoegaze, noise, old industrial, psyche, kraut, etc. Old favorites like Swans, Coil, TG, Neubauten, C93, Death in June, Siouxsie, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Nurse With Wound, Merzbow, the Smiths, MBV, Cranes, The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud, Tim Hecker, Tangerine Dream, and some newer things like Asobi Seksu, Have a Nice Life, Cold Cave, Zola Jesus, etc.
Basics, kinda... _________________

I like it. It's just pop music, though. _________________

If I google "jesu ascension youtube" it assumes I mean "jesus" unless I add "-jesus"
Fuck you, google.
Then again, wow, this shit sucks. I wonder if I just don't get it. This is the guy who made the apocalyptic, crushing Streetcleaner and some other pretty great albums as Godflesh after leaving Napalm Death. I even like some of his output as Final, and some of the early Jesu stuff was okay, but it's like since then JKB has been refining the art of making the most emotionally grey, dull, boring, tepid, colorless piss-puddle music ever to be called "metal" (or "post-metal") or even "rock and roll" or basically anything using guitars. It's like the bland, clean sound of bands like Explosions in the Sky set to one note, one dimension... just endless grey skies and barely-even-mustering-to-be-sullen vibe straining for some kind of shimmery transcendence and totally falling flat. It's not beautiful or moving music; it's deadening, numbing, sedative music. How could you fall so far, JKB? _________________

They're all over the place, generally, though they seem to be drifting away from the Melvins-inspired stoner rock/doom metal in a more pop direction overall, occasionally throwing come curveballs. The last major left-field release was probably Vein (like 5 years ago), which was a double release of harsh crust and noise. Smile kind of one-ups Pink as their diverse rock album, bringing in a lot more weird electronic pop and psychedelic stuff. Strange how long it feels since they released that, though. New Album is pretty good, and I'm definitely into the VK influence they're finally admitting to and indulging in, but I'm also really looking forward to the other two upcoming releases right now—especially the purple Heavy Rocks.
Listen to Flood if you haven't, though.
I'm glad they continue to drop tracks like this once in a while, too. Lazy, heavy psyche over blastbeats.

I missed this. Odd, since I feel basically the opposite. Love Vision Creation Newsun, but Super æ always feels a bit too much like a middling album, stuck between VCN and their noisier stuff. But I guess since Super æ is still noisier and a little more frantic and crazy it's more of an actual Boredoms album, where VCN is pretty much their Can worship album. It's weird, though, because they kind of went further in that direction after that, and Seadrum/House of Sun felt pretty tedious, unfortunately, whereas VCN feels constantly fresh and exciting to me, even if it's a bit more "relaxed" than their earlier stuff. I need to catch up with some of their newer releases, though... _________________

Probably should have posted this here rather than the Axe:
Listening to WFMU. I really ought to tune in more often. I guess I missed them streaming Swans and Neubauten live over the weekend...!
Fortunately: http://wfmu.org/playlists/SZ
Seems like they're listed a bit confusingly, but both days of the Primavera Sound Fest are up there, including Swans, EN, Pere Ubu, Glenn Branca, Interpol, etc. Listening to the Swans set right now and these recorded renditions of new songs "Avatar" and "The Apostate" (which they also played in Portland) sound incredible. Cannot wait to hear them on a new album, whether it's a studio album or a live release...
Might have to figure out how to rip this audio, anyway. _________________

Well, the first three Mothers of Invention albums. I think you'd like Hot Rats, and would most likely find Jazz From Hell interesting—it was essentially muzak recorded on the Synclavier DMS... which he also used in "Porn Wars" (from Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention) for background music. I think it's one of the best things he ever did.
Also try Civilization Phaze III. _________________

That's pretty weird. She also DJ'd a set alongside Dominic Fernow (Prurient, Cold Cave) for the afterparty following Swans @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple last year.
She's also on a recent Current 93 album. So yeah, in that light: Eminem, really? _________________

Just an EP, but yeah, it's pretty good.
Also, one of the guys in HANL has a solo project called Giles Corey and released a self-titled album this year. It's pretty lovely stuff.
