Seems like had quite an effect on you with that song! Very much reminds me of Young Prayer. Could use a bit more of those cloppy sounds that I was hearing in there.

Whoa, check out this website you music hunters! Or basically any sort of stuff hunters.

Its called http://www.funfail.com what it does is it searches through like every big upload site (rapidshare, send space, etc.), and makes a link to them. So you can search for like anything and it finds a link to the file, which you can download. It makes you wait like a few minutes or so for it to start, but otherwise it seems pretty awesome. I searched "Person Pitch" and right off the bat it found a few links to the full album.

Hey Earth fans (specifically of the HEX release)!

I was not aware, but they just released a pretty sweet sounding new disc! Basically an EP/DVD. The CD is four tracks, three previously released songs but re-recorded to be more akin to the sound stylings of HEX, and a track that was previously only available on a tour only 12". The main draw for me is the DVD side, which covers their tour fallowing the release of HEX. Im stoked to get this!

From their website:

Southern Lord recording artists: Earth have finished the recording and mastering of their latest album tentatively entitled: " Hibernaculam". The audio material consists of (3) old Earth classics redone in a different, stark and clean tone (ala the "Hex" material) plus the track "A Plague of Angels" which was previously available on a rare tour only 12". The album will be a special dual CD/DVD "hybrid". With the audio mentioned above on one side and a Earth documentary filmed by Seldon Hunt on the other. The documentary features many interviews with Dylan Carlson and live footage from the groups 2006 European tour.

Track-listing is as follows:

CD SIDE:
1. Ouroboros Is Broken
2. Coda Maestoso In F (Flat) Minor
3. Miami Morning Coming Down
4. A Plague of Angels (2006 mix)

DVD Side:
- Earth Documentary with interviews and live footage (filmed by Seldon Hunt)

I just listned to Super Roots 3 for the first time last night, its pretty fuckin' ripping. Its like a the perfect track to drop into a custom soundtrack for a video game, 33 minute track of rockin riffage. Almost like it was designed to repeat forever.

Last few days its been mostly old Hella, Lightning Bolt and The Advantage.

The Advantage maybe the best cover band of all time, they make old 8-bit video game music just rip/shred. The Mini-Bosses fucking SUCK compared to these guys.

Chompers, all I have ever listend to of the Liars is Drums not Dead, and I think that record owns. One of my favorites for last year. But I did create what maybe the best way to listen to it for the first time, get really lost on a long series creepy of roads in a dense forest whilst driving. I had no idea where I was, and stumbled my way out after the second play through. It was awesome.

Bleh. They've got technical skill (not THAT much technical skill) and no heart whatsoever. I mean, I'll listen to them, but the best cover band of all time? Noooo sir.

But every cover they do is better than the original! And what do you mean by no heart whatsoever? I have not seen them live, but have seen members of the band live in other bands, seems like they have plenty of heart to me. They lay it down.

Well, I wasn't trying to defend the Minibosses or say they were great or anything. Given a choice between the two, I'd go with the Advantage myself.

It was just, you know, saying they're the best cover band ever is a little much. Even saying they're the best video game cover band is a little much. Metroid Metal and Neskvartetten (I think I spelled that right, damn Nordics) are pretty stiff competetition, and in fact I'd say they hand the Advantage its own ass pretty handily.

Well I have never heard Metroid Metal or Neskvaretten, nor have I heard every single cover band in general. But of the cover bands I have heard, and video game releated bands I have heard, Advantage crushes. Hell, Rush even put out a cover album called Flashback and its really good, Advantage is still better though.

Also, does Metroid Metal or Neskvaretten cover Solar Jetman? Because Advantage does, and it kills.

Metroid Metal fucking KILLLLLLLLLS! Its just fucking awesome. Listened through all the Metroid 1 tracks last night, and its just insane! Everysong is just awesome. Its basically the opposite of what The Advantage does. Advantages goal is to recreate 8-bit video game music with basic band instruments, while Metroid Metal tries to make it seem like the 8-bit music was trying to recreate what they made. So these tracks go well beyond what the actual Metroid music sounds like, and really does not make me think of Metroid at all when listening to it. Its just awesome instrumental progressive metal! Its got soaring guitars, deep chuggin bass, riffage. It never gets cheesey either. The last band I have listened to recently that reminded me of Metroid Metal is Shining's Grindstone, but this is less sparatic, but more like specific parts of Grindstone. I started to listen to the Super Metroid tracks, and those fucking rock too! Sounds like the Metroid Prime ones will as well!

Also, attention Boris/Melvins fans, look into the band NOXAGT if you have not already. Norwegian intrumental heavy Bass rock. First two albums are Bass, Drum, and Viola. But the newest album the Viola player quit and they added this screaming guitarist. I saw them live last night on their U.S. tour and they vibrated peoples faces off. They have a lot of tour stops left, definetly check them out if they are coming to your area. http://www.myspace.com/noxagt

Dude, I was not joking about Metroid Metal. It truly is The Shit.

Funny thing is, his original stuff shows the same technical skill, but isn't nearly as good. A lot of that has to do with the vocals, which aren't great and the lyrics are pretty lame. But even the instrumentals don't measure up. He's like this fantastic player and arranger but he just doesn't have that spark of creativity to come up with great tunes in the first place. It's interesting.

Heh, yeah I was thinking last night while listening "Dude this rules, but I bet this guys original creations SUCK!"

Warhammer 48k - Ive been digging these guys a lot lately. Saw them at a show in a dingy practice space last week, and they fucking slayed. Much heavier live, but their recorded stuff is awesome too. The songs have more bizarre sounds and tribal drumming on the records.

Checked out Dan Deacons upcoming "Spiderman of the Rings". Its really awesome. I've never really journeyed into this weirdo brand of Electronic music that seems to root deeply in Kids music. They call it "Future Shock" apparently. I assume this is what Chiptunes would sound like, but I have never bothered to look into that. Either way, I really like Dan Deacon.

Recent listens:

Metroid Metal (original, super, and prime tracks)
Noxagt - Soft Sugar
Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
Natsumen - NEVER WEAR OUT YOUR SUMMER XXX !!!
The Advantage - Tour 2004 CD (this is very un-the advantage, lots of samples and more weird instruments as well as noise elements. Not sure what was going on at that time)

Anyone recall some CDs of Famicom music that came out a few years ago? Not the Famicom 20th Anniversary that was put out by nintendo, but there was like a 3 or 4 disc set of all sorts of stuff from like Hudson and others. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

Sounds awesome. I can imagine them not having a huge bombastic stage presence(Didn't they tour exclusively in museums for awhile?), but I think their music can speak on its own. The live bootleg I have has a version of A True Story of A Story Of True Love that's absolutely amazing.

While I am not sure if they toured exclusivly at museums, this stop was. They kept going on about how awesome of a place it was. It was at the Walker Art Musuem here in Minneapolis, and they have super grandiose theater, which makes any small band seem like a big deal. It can only hold like 500 people, they had to do two sold out shows. But when you are on stage and its full, it looks like Fleetwood Mac or some shit. I saw Sunn O))) w/ Boris there last summer.

But being at such a venue gave them a full movie theater sized screen to use for all the awesome video they had that fully synched up with the music. All they actually play live is Acoustic Guitar and Cello, and have a big studio style mixer that they never touch unless hooking up a different guitar. They sing their voices though of couse. It was really cool, but VERY arty. Like there was a lot of old hipsters there that only went because it was at the Modern Art musuem. If it was at Joe Schmoes music venue/bar I can't imagine half the people being there, it was just that kind of crowd.

Also, without the video, it may have been a big let down. The video was just so damn awesome with the songs, really seems like the best way to enjoy their music actually. The entire concert is the same thing as the DVD they just released. So you can watch that to get the same experience.

Picked up Boris+Sunn O))) tripple LP Limited Edition LP. Thing weighs 2 pounds. Three extremely thick colored LPs, plus a big thick book a pictures. This whole package is lavish, really awesome. Plus its was only $23 where I got it (cheapos vinyl basement in minneapolis).

Also got the Harvey Milk: Anthem DVD from Aquarious Records. Its like nearly 4 hours long, plus it has a 3" CD of unreleased tracks. Also with an amazing package designed by Stephen O'Malley from Sunn O))). Im about an Hour into it, and its pretty awesome.

I saw these guys open for Black Mountain last summer, and they were awesome. Totaly cool dudes too, they hanged out for the other bands and got wicked drunk, and I talked to the lead singer dude for quite a while.

Live they shred, but yeah the album does not capture their on stage spirit. If I remember correctly he yells and screams more on stage, and the lyrics on the album are just straight singing. So the bits of the album I heard I was disapointed with. See them live though.

Yeah thats what it was like when I saw them. Plus they were playing for like 8 people, and he was still laying it on.

I should have mentioned in my last post that I ended up on stage with him during the Black Mountain performance. They asked if anyone could play flute for them during a song, and they chose me. I had no idea to play flute, so I just sort of blew along to the beat. But they had the entire band of Ladyhawke and Blood Meridian on stage with them, and me.

Have fun!

Yeah I am going to use this concert as sort of an introduction to them. Apparently their long time lead singer left the band before this newest album, not sure if that really matters though. I hope they have some wild stuff for sale.

Acid Mothers Temple played for what seemed like 9,ooo hours, and it was awesome. Just when they would trail off from long spinning jam into some chanting you would figure "Okay, this is the end." And then "SKKWWOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" A whole new 10 minute long jam would begin, crazier than the last one. Very entertaining.

Sadly they were sold out of their Tour only 12" that I wanted though, they said it was all gone at the first few stops on the tour. They did have like 36 different CDs though.

I'm still exploring their wealth of output (which can be a bit uneven, quality-wise (and they've released countless cassettes)), but Behold Secret Kingdom is one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I watched the DVD "Everyone Stares: The Police Inside out" Stewart Copeland (the drummer) basically filmed everything they ever did with a 8mm camera. It covers all their albums, and tours etc. He then edited it down to a 73 minute film thats very entertaining, and a really interesting glimpse into a band that goes from small to MEGA FUCKING BIG. Its got footage of them dragging luggage into seedy motel rooms, and then later shows them recording on a tropical island traveling in Limos. The Police really screamed through their career too, it was only a 9 year stint, they released 5 albums, and won tons of grammys. And then Sting got all big and made much lamer music on his own.

Check it out if you love the Police, and like lots of 70s/80s locals filmed by a famous drummer.

Only complaint is that Copelands narration is pretty dry, but informative and really honest.

Finally got a new cartridge for my turntable, so now I can listen to all the records I have been collecting for a few years now. I also picked up some more records when I got it fixed:

John Wiese - Soft Punk
Ocrilim - Anoint
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Letting Go
The Police - Ghost in the Machine, Sychronicity, Zenyatta Mondatta, and Outlandos d'Amour

The John Wiese album I bought on a whim, its going to take some time to enjoy I think. I am not used to this harsh of noise, but it feels like it will have potential with a focused listen.

I don't know shit about Dance music and its near Heavy Metal level of genre breakdowns, but this reminded me that I have been in love with Justice - † recently.

Other than a few specific tracks "The Party" and somewhat "D.A.N.C.E." this album is perfect. Ive always enjoyed Daft Punk (mainly Home Work and Human After All) and this is right in step with them. Otherwise when its comes to dance music I really dislike it, or don't know whats god.

Going to attempt to see both Dan Deacon and Marnie Stern this evening. Ones doors open a hour later than the other, and both have the same number of opening bands. The two venues are close, but not close enough to be able to park in one spot and walk to both. I have a feeling Deacons set would end sooner than Marnie Sterns would start, but Deacons doors open an hour later. This could be impossible, but I am going to try and make it work.

So, uh. New Pig Destroyer album came out in June; I picked it up today, finally. First impression is very good.

I got the Vinyl of this when it came out, I only listened to Side 1, I liked what I heard. But it was not the most focused of listenings on my part.

Meanwhile: In Black Dice members solo recordings news, Eric Copelands solo album came out. Its called "Hermaphrodite" and I think its really swell! Its not too much of a departure from the more recent Black Dice stuff. I would say each song has more of a Genre than most Black Dice songs do. Its just plenty of fun/odd/interesting sounds, sometimes with a beat!

Main listening recently:

Husker Du - Zen Arcade: This brand of Punk Rock is timeless. Mainly because it does not fit into any time period of punk rock to begin with.

The Tuss - Rushup Edge: So is this Richard D. James? If its not, well they are doing a great job of sounding exactly like him. I don't have a lot of depth in this genre, but this is good.

Faust - IV: I like it, first time I have listened to Faust. Not seeing what the huge difference between them and the likes of Can are, but none the less good.

Going to see Boris tonight, Live in Concert!

I listened to Sleep - Dopesmoker last night for the first time. I was not smoking dope (i was watching hockey with the sound off), but still found it to be pretty rad. I was not focused enough to really catch the lyrics and stuff. From what I understand this is the "true" version of the song broken up into multiple tracks for Sleeps "Jerusalem", anyone know what exactly the difference is? I have no lisnted to that one either, just curious without actually listening I guess. I guess Sleep also made a big stink about the record company breaking it up from one 60:00 track into a bunch of smaller 9 or 10 minute tracks. Thus re-releasing it as just "Dopesmoker".

But overall it seems to be about as Stoner Metal as it gets, guess thats why they are held to such high regard in the genre.
