| Yeah, I meant that the new lineup probably won't sound like they did in the Filth/Cop era. That might be a good thing though. |

By the way, Dracko, what do you think of Gira's I am Not Insane?
Really cannot wait to hear how he'll bring these songs or this sound into the Swans setup. _________________

full Company of Thieves live set. Put up by a superfan who is authorized by the band to do such things. Much better sound than your typical youtube bootlegs and some decent editing. This guy has actually given me private access under the table to some videos a couple of times in the past.
http://www.vimeo.com/10336749
*here's a little acoustic bit from them to wet your tongue
**they recently got a new bassist and he's pretty darned good. He's definitely fattened up their live sound. Especially in their newer songs that are still going through revision.
***man unfortunately the concert above is one of Genevieve's "off" nights. Here off nights usually are still quite good, but she's still human. Compare here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC_-AgJ2sxA&feature=player_embedded#
that's the first song in the concert video above, but on a different night. She's nailing some high notes there that she avoids on "off" nights. |

I love them when they're doing great power pop, and I hate them when Dan Bejar's doing his godawful Dan Bejar thing. Somehow they temper AC Newman in ways that make him great, where his solo albums are balls. Just listening to this new one now. First three tracks are good! I think they've got enough material now that I could just make a compilation with all the Bejar songs removed.
Been listening to a lot of reggae/dub and African stuff. I hit the Other Music used bin just after somebody dropped off a TON of both, spent a lot of dollars.
Paul White's doing a new album, I think composed entirely of some psychedelic Swede's material. First single sounds great, a lot like that Gaslamp Killer Finders Keepers mix.
2010 so far:
Gonjasufi - A Sufi And A Killer
Chicago Underground Duo - Boca Negra
Geoff Mullen & Keith Fullerton Whitman - November 28 2009
Laura Gibson & Ethan Rose - Bridge Carols
Little Women - Throat
Michael Pisaro & Greg Stuart - July Mountain
P.G. Six - Live at VPRO Amsterdam
Vanessa Rossetto - PDD-NOS _________________

Does anyone know of a site that has some big mp3 mixtapes of good new music that I could actually download? I haven't payed attention to anything current in a long time.
or blogs I might like?
I like guitar songs, and piano, and depressing/sweet stuff, but I'm not in the mood for catchy indie rock.
People here love swans, I never heard any swans but I love angels of light. _________________

Angels of Light is good stuff. If you're curious about Swans, I'd suggest starting with either Soundtracks for the Blind or Children of God/World of Skin.
Also, for good mixtapes, check out Headphone Commute. _________________

Any that don't combine theirs into one recording? I'd just listen to lastfm radio, but I don't want to have to track down all the mp3s. _________________

I'm having trouble uploading anything to mediafire without it failing right now otherwise this would be in the album dump thread, but MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS are one of the most refreshing bands I've heard in some time... They're post-hardcore, a bit similar to Number Girl, and the sort of thing I can imagine a certain mr. tim rogers would enjoy quite a bit (and probably already does).

Seen The Antlers, Wild Beasts, Jaguar Love, A Place to Bury Strangers, Titus Andronicus, Sleigh Bells last Saturday. Met the Titus Andronicus singer and he signed my CD.
Also why is it so hard to start up a band ? People have no fucking motivation. _________________ psn: Cryptomensia |

They are amazing. The singer is such a nice guy, I need to take a photo of my album to upload.

I'm wondering if this rumored upcoming album from Boris will actually see the light of day. And I mean a proper album, too, not this revamped collection of older songs they're supposedly putting out... I read something not too long ago about how Atsuo has been talking in interviews about how he's been contemplating his place in the world as a Japanese man in such a Western-influenced band -- saying things like "we're hardly a band anymore" and that Boris is basically just a vehicle for him to travel the world and have new experiences at this point. I'm not certain about the veracity of these statements, but it sort of makes sense coming after a series of 7" singles that indulge in their tastes in visual kei and such, with a dose of irony or self-denigration (i.e., lol avant garde drone metal band secretly loves X Japan). _________________
