This sounds utterly wretched. It's not actually ironic that preteens have latched onto any of that stuff. Only preteens would find any of that edgy, intelligent, funny, or entertaining.

Also, Quick Shot, thank you! It's about time someone noticed.

Yeah, that's not ironic at all. That's exactly the kind of thing that preteens latch onto.

I've been listening to lots of Venetian Snares. At least once or twice a year I'll go through a phase of listening to VSnares almost exclusively. Right now it is, of course, this year's Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms (favorite track: "Vache" (though the sample there doesn't quite get to the awesome drum machine fury)), as well as last year's follow-up to Rossz Csillag Alatt Született (favorite track: " Második Galamb"), Meathole (favorite track at the moment: "Szycag"). Admittedly I don't pay much attention to drum 'n' bass or any other beat-oriented electronic music (excepting hip-hop) these days, but Aaron Funk still satisfies.

I was obsessed with the Venetian Snares for a period of about a week maybe a month ago.

That was a good week.

Dude, awesome. High five. Finntroll are fucking sweet. Especially Jaktens Tid.

In other news:

Yeah. I'm a pretty big fan of Finntroll. They're pretty much awesome in every possible way. Who doesn't love Finnish polka-folk-metal?

I've been listening to the sampler for ARC's Drain. ARC is, for those unaware, Lowtax of Something Awful fame.

Is it generic techno like the last thing I heard from him?

Yeah, pretty much. I don't really like it. It's pretty much a bunch of "dark"-sounding Apex Twin-ripoff tracks with Silent Hill music sprinkled throughout.

Rammstein's new-ish live album Voelkerball has been getting a lot of playtime lately, as I finally found a torrent that didn't require a password to un-RAR.

I have pretty bad taste in music okay, Rammstein is probably my favourite band.

currently listening to 8:01-8:48 of large prime numbers' "the wandering minstrel and the reasons between the seasons (demo 1.30.2007)" on loop

it's pretty fresh

Blind Guardian's live albums are all really excellent. I wonder if they're this consistently good in non-recorded live shows.

I wonder if they're coming to Detroit anytime soon.

Edit: Oh dammit, they played in Detroit on November 25th, and they're not coming back to the US during this tour.

Blind Guardian is probably my favourite band.

man, i am out of touch with music.

whatever. i've been listening to the decemberists' picaresque a lot because i am an angsty teenager and that album stimulates my angst. and of course my steady diet of they might be giants, rush, and monty python albums. oh! i downloaded a primus album, sailing the seas of cheese. i'd really like it if it was less jammy. i've been getting into soundtracks too. mostly the blood diamond soundtrack, the lord of the rings trilogy soundtrack, and the command & conquer series soundtrack collection.

okay, going back to familiar territory now. have fun guys!

Are you on the 157 test 8 beta version? You'd have to be, to see my files. I'd also have to add you to my list in oder for you to be able to see all of them.

Yep, I'm on 157 test 8. It shows you as logged in, but not sharing any files.

Pretty sure there are ways around this. I'll have to look up soulseek's help page and see if I can remember how simplicio/rabite and I got it figured out -- we had trouble connecting at first, too, and if I recall correctly there was something he had to do on his end to enable us to see each other's files.

What's your slsk name, anyway?

My soulseek name is, I believe, BaronPatsy. I'm behind a firewall, but I have my ports forwarded correctly.

Oh, wow, thanks a lot, antitype. I'm grabbing a surprisingly-fast (for having only two seeders) torrent for the Boris discography as we speak, and I just started a 2.4 gig AMT discography torrent. They should both be finished by tonight, which I'm quite happy about. Sorry about the mix-up with my slsk names, I have two different computers (one at my father's and one at my mother's), and I didn't notice that my slsk name is different on each computer! I have it as Baron Patsy on both now, I believe, so there shouldn't be any more problems.

Also, a friend of mine introduced me to Dissection yesterday. Pretty good stuff! Getting their discography too.

I've ignored all TMBG output for the last ten or so years but I ended up buying The Else on iTunes (it's actually another two months until the physical album will be released).

It's produced in part by the Dust Brothers, and it has a pretty consistent sound throughout (for a TMBG release, especially!). some great upbeat numbers, too.

^^and album art, because this thread seems to be down with that.

I've had this for a few weeks now, and it's really starting to grow on me. I hated it at first, thought it was complete shit and that TMBG had finally become completely generic drivel. But now I actually like it quite a bit. It's just very different from their past releases, which was a bit disconcerting and disorienting, I suppose.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I downloaded Justice's latest yesterday. I listened to 'D.A.N.C.E.' on repeat at six thirty this morning while sitting on my bed and staring outside. It was something.

That track makes me feel kind of melancholy, for some reason. And call me unsophisticated or whatever, but that's my favourite track on the album. The other, noisier tracks make me feel anxious and give me a headache.

I've been listening to Remain in Light on repeat all day, probably because I'm in the middle of reading Simon Reynolds' excellent book Rip it Up and Start Again, about the post-punk movement from 1978 to 1984.

DEVO! not that they made that album, but for some reason tehy end up there to start with and then become new wave if you want to be stupid about classifications.

remain in light is a goddamn good album though.

DEVO's probably one of my favourite bands! I appreciated your contributions to the numberic list, by the way. Some excellent choices there!

Has anybody gotten My Downfall (original soundtrack) by Venetian Snares yet? I'll probably nab it tomorrow. I'm told it's kind of like a sequel to Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, which is my favorite VS record after Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole so I've got fairly high hopes.

Rossz Csillag Alatt Született is my favourite Venetian Snares album. I'll have to keep an eye out for this new one, then.

VS' website says it was supposed to drop on the 1st of October, but that's the only source that seems to point to that day. Various other sources point to, I've found, up to three days this month.

Either way, there's a track up on his myspace page (it's the first one that plays when you get there).

Also, I really liked Jesu's Silver EP, however I haven't been able to get into any of the albums, for some reason or another. I'll probably check this new one out regardless.

If you check Planet Mu's page for the album, there are 1+ minute samples for each of the tracks, if you want to get more of a feel for what the album feels like. So far, I'd say it's a bit similar to Rossz, but with even less of a focus on the breakcore style stuff. Only four (I think) of the samples contain any breakbeats at all, the rest is piano/strings style stuff.

When it does drop, it'll probably be on OiNK first, and I'll grab it and throw it up on megaupload or something and post it in this thread. I've been refreshing OiNK, waiting for it, for the past few days.

I don't know if this is the sort of music that most of you dudes are into (and I don't mean for that to sound condescending), but does anyone know of any groups that sound similar to Wolf Parade? I've been enjoying their self-titled quite a bit lately.

Andrew WK is actually pretty interesting. There are a lot of neat things involving him, including the possibility that "Andrew WK" is actually played by multiple actors or someone named Steev Mike.

And the W stands for Wilkes!

Andrew WK should collaborate with Buckethead.
