Came across this via our good pal Eric-Jon's livejournal: an odd little puzzle/platformer game called Braid which focuses on time travel as a core gameplay mechanic, which I've sort of been following for some time, now has its own website. I remember reading an article about this game from Gamasutra's coverage of the Game Developer's Conference last year. Screenshots have appeared, featuring background art by David Hellman (A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible and sometimes-contributer to The Gamer's Quarter and this fine website).
The main character appears to be a dumpy, Donald Trump-looking business man who must contend with downtrodden dust mites and dangerous leaps over scenic vistas. The environments look great so far, showcasing Hellman's trademark colorful, impressionistic style and his knack for eye-catching and dreamy composition. The game mechanics are still a bit mysterious -- from an early demonstration at GDC last year, the player has unlimited ability to control time, meaning you can rewind or fast forward whenever you want. The catch is that certain objects -- perhaps a key or a locked door -- are not affected by the flow of time, and once changed, are changed for good. Sounds interesting, to say the least. The tentative release date is sometime in 2007, with no solid platform. _________________

Interesting. The website says they'll be putting out a call for beta testers sometime at the end of this month. Intriguing!
Oh, and David Hellman's artwork is, as always, superb. _________________

I also bears mentioning that the most recent newsy bit about Braid was that it dropped out of Slamdance in protest of the Columbine game being kicked out of Slamdance.
fl0w followed suit soon after. |

Thanks for the write-up, Toups!
To clarify, the character art is by Edmund Mcmillen (you can google him). |

| More braid hype. A bit breathless, though I see where he's coming from. I suppose I should ask Mr. Blow for a copy to screw around with -- though to an extent I feel like I've been so close for so long I barely need to play it. |

I just want to mention that I actually managed to get a screenshot of this game for my magazine while other places, like GameSpy and other shit, were too lazy to actually try and find one and claimed none existed. I was like seriously the first person to find a screen. Go me!
Also, I'm looking foward to this game. |
