Have you played guilty gear before? One character (Eddie) makes heavy use of negative edge.

I've read KOFXII described as a KOF for those who never have played KOF before.

Personally I like small rosters, and would have loved to see a MOTW2.

Firenze, is the netcode worse than XBLA.98UM/MOTW?

As a novice, mechanically SFIV seem to impose a strong defensive approach especially when you are playing a non-shoto character. You have to be very mindful at all times.

Basic moves seem to be less effective, since their ranges are very varied and non standard from one character to another. Especially when I compare it to my favorite game, MOTW where although basic moves are different they share a lot of similarity and where you have a universal "overhead move".

I am also surprised a lot by the verticality of SFIV and the whole cross-up game is something I do not see as important in SNK fighters.

http://kenbogard.fr/?p=641

Videos of some money matches and tournaments from the same event I posted a video for.

(Three tournaments: 2 vs 2, "master series" and solo sfiv, the later won by fuudo against umehara, umehara coming from the loser brackets after his loss against a rose player)

Apparently there was also the first time the japanese players had their hands on ssiv, unfortunately the feedback there is audio only. I might make a transcript if it's any good: http://basgrospoing.fr/2010/03/exclu-une-grosse-dose-dinfos-sur-ssfiv/

Here's another cool vid I had missed since it was at the same time as ECT2. This one from Europe with Japan's Tokido playing Louffy (uses Rose and played a mean Vega in vanilla). Tourney is called Stunfest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7NVQYSQc6A

Apparently a Fei Long won the grand finals, but I didn't find that video. Watch out kids, we have a new wild card. I wonder if it was Starnab? I hear he's good since vanilla, but have not seen many of his matches.

Luffy plays Rose (never seen him play vega) and defeated Umehara in a tourney in Cannes earlier this year (to get beaten back again by him later)

Luffy is a pad player, and rose is kind of a boring character to see played, since he's spamming the frame trap slide..

The Fei Long who won at this stunfest tourney is called Evans. Starnab got defeated by Tokido.

Evans vs Tokido (winner bracket final)

Man, that was an awful fight. He didn't use any of Rose's anti-air or abuse him when he was in the corner. :/

Wonder what the commentary was saying.

Really hard to make what the commenter is saying with all that reverb, but he's Ken Bogard, the best commenter/announcer I've ever heard.

His youtube channel is rather excellent:

Yeah I'm actually somewhat more interested in first to X matches than straight elimination tourneys. Especially after seeing the latest godsgarden' matches. The depth of understanding a player has really shows much more in such challenges.

Not liking very much the counterpicking / blind selection aspect of north american competitions.
