I also just watched Eva 3/Q and am, like, confused and a bit put off.

I dreamed that I was reading an online article that was a critical and cynical analysis of the violent and militaristic themes present in Little Witch Academia. It was a long and thorough piece that I was only just getting into before I woke up, but now that I am awake I am somewhat dubious of its overall accuracy, because while I have yet to set aside time to watch the animation in question, I am fairly sure it is not actually set in Bosnia.
hi guys so i haven't watched any recent anime since kaiba aired, which was kind of a while ago. what are the good animes since kaiba? (be as inclusive as possible, list post with no comments is fine!!)
Your comment got me curious as to what kaiba was, so I picked it up. And uh, quite the change from the current trend of anime! I'm liking what I've seen so far three episodes in and would recommend this to my friends with no qualms about doing so.

my advice is to forget the stuff exists and read books
though I guess there's universal agreement round these parts for Tatami Galaxy, Princess Jellyfish (note: no conclusive ending, you've been warned) and Kids on the Slope. I for one loved the hell out of Usagi/Bunny Drop and its totally appropriate ending that doesn't go any further at all _________________

Yeah this can safely be said to be a list of anime most worth watching since Kaiba.
I'll come up with a more complete list once I pore over some lists. _________________
Genuine question - what is the name of the anime series my avatar image comes from? I can't remember it's name & wanted to check it out again. I'm pretty sure a bunch of you watched it too.
Plotwise I think it had 2 warring factions of demons disguised as humans..who were also yakuza/mob types? I think the main character had bowel problems and wore a nappy when fighting..
It was definitely released in the last 10 years (I think Noein might have been on air at the same time) or so and had a visual style that conjures Studio4c to mind (but it's not them)
I keep thinking its called Bakamono, but much googling isn't throwing up any results.
i thought escaflowne was boring when it aired on fox kids, but i watched it again a couple of years ago and loved it
did you guys get our crazy Fox Kids cut of the show (complete with no first episode and techno), or just an edit of the dub, like what Canada got?
I know I keep saying that Valvrave is crazy and dumb and hilarious, but after catching up on it, it really is crazy and dumb and hilarious and feels like Sunrise looked at how Gundam Seed and Code Geass were both popular and are desperately trying to combine both shows into a bizarre golem
I mean, they cut the school loose from the space colony-planet and established an independent nation and are playing Space America and Not-Germany both for fools because of a vampiric giant robot _________________
I'm watching Hyouge Mono. It amazes me how such a thing has been made.
It's a 39 episodes long series about tea ceremony during and after Nobunaga Oda's rule. It also offers an interesting twist(completely fictional I believe) about his death. The main character has the top of the head shaved like anyone else.

i can't exactly remember, but i think it was a similar situatiion to cardcaptors, in that we got the edited american dub, but with missing episodes put back in/returned to their original order, and so on.
escaflowne was one of the few shows I bought entirely on VHS while it was being released by bandai in those big plastic white cases. not even sure how that started, unless maybe I read about it in animerica or something, but I'm pretty sure I remember buying the three available tapes all at once, before the rest came out. either way, glad I first saw it this way. kinda wish I still had those tapes. _________________ letterboxd | last.fm | steam
So what's the deal with Valvrave? I went into it expecting a hot mess on par with Guilty Crown or Code Geass but instead it feels more like some middling space anime with robots from the late nineties. Still dumb but not as bombastically inane as GC or CG. _________________
How much have you seen? From the 7 episodes I've seen, it's fairly crazy, at least compared to Guilty Crown (which I found was kinda boring until ep 15). Nothing really tops CG, unfortunately.
the "middling space anime with robots from the nineties" slot is currently being filled by Majestic Prince, which I actually like and is probably better than Valvrave, but the pacing has been slow so far, though it looks to pick up. Valvrave, on the other hand, has space vampire robots, a character who is James Bond and Nostradamus in one (who is also a part of an obvious fujoshi bait not-love triangle) and seriously, did you see that one Valvrave unit in the opening, it's literally a sorceress and I wholly expect their origin now to be SPACE MAGIC _________________
I really liked Majestic Prince to start with but now I'm getting bored of it a little. I'll probably keep watching it compulsively. Valvrave is dumb as well but you know.
Shingeki no Kyojin has been pretty good thus far, and I'm still in love with Gargantia just because I love all the color. I've done my girlfriend a disservice and gotten her into anime somewhat (or at least she likes the shows I've shown her) and she's watching those two with me, along with a dumb RomCom. But I'm making up for it with Gurren Lagann which is her favorite thus far so I guess she knows what's up.
For me the hot mess/fun factor of CG and GC was getting whiplash from how fast and frequently they just pull stuff out of their ass. Valvrave kinda just feels like some shows I watched near the end of middle school going into high school. That being stuff like Vandread, Nadesco and some parts of Ifinite Ryvius and Geneshaft.
It's still dumb but it just feels regular dumb instead of crazy dumb. _________________
Valvrave is the kind of show that will open an episode with a flash-forward hundreds of years into the future for no particular reason, other than incidentally confirming the immortal space vampires are indeed immortal and ageless. I respect that. _________________ http://www.mdgeist.com/
DD First of the North Star is pretty typically wacky/cute/chibi kind of stuff but i like the gags and the concept of putting all these apocalyptic nightmare weirdos into a sitcom is kind of worth the price of admission for me
Has anyone seen the new Goro Miyazaki movie From Up On Poppy Hill? I heard his first movie Tales from Earthsea was terrible, but at least this one is written by his dad.
Why do people keep saying Earthsea was bad? _________________
The apologists that claim that Ged and others register as darker in japan than in the west are full of shit, compare to say Turn A Gundam or Michiko to Hatchin and you can see that uh they could have made Ged and others look exactly like they were described in the books. _________________

i ain't had a chance to watch DD FOTNS yet, but the dude who runs it, Akitarou Daichi, this kind of show is his bread & butter and he's very, very good at it. it's worth checking out if anyone's wondering. _________________ http://www.mdgeist.com/

Is there somewhere that has this subbed for download? as an Euro creature I'm having difficulties.
Select Euros should be able to watch the legal stream on Crunchyroll. The rest of you should go see if someone's put up torrents of the stream rips (look for HorribleSubs). _________________ http://www.mdgeist.com/
Xam'd is like most BONES anime, terrible writing with great animation.
Great animation wasn't enough for me in this case, I got bored after like 4 episodes because I just didn't care about anyone in the show. _________________
