sup aderack, get a therapist
People who stay only dorks care about HD aren't on the money: the public is aware of it, and the market is pushing for it. I'd rather it didn't happen, but it is going to happen. My mother is aware of HD. |

Wouldn't offer any advice I'm not already pursuing to the fullest myself, dearest heart! I'm not sure what the insurance is like for someone who churns out pseudo-academic waffle on Dr fucking Who is like, but challenging one's conceits does wonders for the soul. You might even learn to write articulately!

So many people are busy yiffing the trees (itt) that they can't see a very big wood -
1) The people with vested interests in a new format make the movies
2) The people with vested interests in a new format make the players
In five years you'll still be able to buy movies on DVD: those movies will basically consist of Shannon Tweed retrospectives and Halloween XXV: Michael Meyers Fucks a Scary Goat. The big shit, the shit people want to see will be held back, given exclusive debuts, whatever it takes. They hold the objects of desire and control the supply of those objects. People with real jobs will sigh and drop the cash on a player to see the movies - because the middle classes can afford to drop that much. It will happen in the next two years, provided the economy doesn't spiral into apocalypse.
This will happen because the people who locomote the market want it to happen, and if they will it to be so it will happen. DVD won't disappear over night - backwards compatibility blah blah blah - but it'll be for budget stuff like The Sexy Sixth Sense. HD looks nice.
People who view luxury markets as having to somehow necessary don't get it :( |

Apple's sure making a killing because people want high-quality audio, huh?
Convenience trumps quality every time. We invented fast food, remember? |
OK, let me go out and buy a first generation iPod... oops! I can't! Because Apple stopped making it. Just like DVD will be phased out from the source, eventually. |

People like owning the physical media. One hard drive crash and you've lost anything which is no longer on sale.
It would be good for the environment, though, so I probably support it. |
