Guys, outside Club Dork nobody cares about HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.

These new formats are just fighting over who'll be the next Laser-Disc.

You only see a massive format shift when the new format offers significant concrete improvements over the old methods--never having to rewind the tape is a significant improvement. Better image quality is not. Remember the progression of magnetic tape to CD to MP3 for proof of this.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be footnotes in the DVD chapter of the history books.

So many people are busy yiffing the trees (itt) that they can't see a very big wood -

1) The people with vested interests in a new format make the movies

HD looks nice.

Apple's sure making a killing because people want high-quality audio, huh?

Convenience trumps quality every time. We invented fast food, remember?

Though, I predict that will take a few years and we might be phasing out physical media by then. The popularity of the Xbox 360 video download service as well as iTunes tells me that this might just be the case.

I was trying to suggest this earlier, but it never came out right. Thanks for saying it better than I could, Joe.
