Guys, outside Club Dork nobody cares about HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.

Most people still don't have an HD set and even those who do don't even know how to set it up for proper viewing. Shit, here at my job I've had to set up 7 sets for other co-workers. And some have had these things for several years without realizing things their colors and aspect ratios were all fucked up!

Many folks now have massive personal DVD collections and they'll be damned if they're gonna switch now. People didn't even care about owning stuff on VHS. Tapes were expensive and they break.

Not having to rewind or fast forward is something people fucking appreciate and I believe was the biggest reason for the shift to the DVD format.

These new formats are just fighting over who'll be the next Laser-Disc.

Well just choosing your favorite porn scene to enjoy in a nice little menu is a real dandy thing! Instead of the old standby of having to re-watch the first 10 minutes of a porn tape for several years every time you pop a tape in.

Fast forwarding just kills any momentum.

I don't believe it's too early.

People always want the latest shiny things, but there's no incentive for it to really be adopted. Especially if the device to play the new format is much more expensive than what is already there.

Sony has tried to push all sorts of things onto us and failed. Beta-max, Minidisc, multi-media compact disc, super-audio, music clip, and I guess the UMD can be tacked on there now.

This is all in the past 15 years!

What's Criterion's take on these formats?

People want poorly shot 16MM French Films in high-definition?
