hey so if anyone else reads AICN then they probably saw this:

Weird new ghostbusters videogame movies

The whole thing is pretty obviously not a "real" videogame, but the question is if it is just some kind of hoax or if it is videos of something that will actually be playable (like a mod of some kind). Since the AICN talkbacks have basically turned into a really obnoxious series of in jokes as of late (and for this article in particular, just a bunch of random quotes from the ghostbuster movies) no one seems to have any real information about what the hell it is.

So... anyone? At any rate, the videos are kind of cool looking... this certainly won't do anything to dry the gushing fountain of unrealistic hope for ghostbusters 3. ;_;

Well the studio, Zootfly, appears to be real.
They're Slovenian.

Quote:
ZootFly is a team of passionate game developers bent on world domination. With cool games, that is.

Members of ZootFly were involved in development of 18 games for various studios and publishers, 15 of which were published. These games are: Casanova, Axel Impact, Faust: the Game of Souls, Hannibal, Hardbear and Cybee, Hitchcock: the Final Cut, Jerusalem, Legend, Louvre, Mistmare, Pilgrim, Pompeii, Ring II, The Great Exodus, The Ring of the Nibelungen, The Secret of Alamut, Gunman Chronicles, Bomberman, Hollow, Panzer Elite Action, PEA - Dunes of War and First Battalion.

Mostly lesser known PC games, or at least none I have heard about.
Though there's a Bomberman listed in there...

Digging around pulled up:

Apparently a game developer named Zootfly put this together as a way to say "Hey, we want to make a game!".

Quote:
Two days ago, Slovenian video game developer, Zootfly, sneak-released a couple of videos onto YouTube, sans explaination - best guess is that they amount to them expressing an interest in a Ghostbusters game (as they featured concept art in a company precis - see below for the art.)

Currently, as PC understands it, nobody holds the licence to make a GB game, so it’s not known if this is some pre-hype before pursuing the license or a publisher, evidence that they just aquired the licence, or are just doing it to show off their love of GB.

Well, judging from the video, they certainly deserve to make the game. watching that one "gameplay" video made me want to play immediately.

This is almost surely Valve's Source engine. Gunman Chronicles is a spin-off from the original Half Life, and Panzer Elite Action is a sort-off action tank thing that isn't very good. Some of the stuff they did isn't very good (shallow point and clicks, sub-par RTS - you know, PC games), but they know their action. I'm thinking by the names that they do alot of ports and offshore programming.

I'm sort of not digging the more modern looking Ecto-1. That is my only complaint, really.

This doesn't look too shabby!

Really, I don't know how the next-gen consoles (or even last gen) have yet to tap the whole Ghostbusters license. I mean the 20th anniversary of the first movie wasn't that long ago, after all. Is it just not a viable license anymore?

Hell, mix the movies with the cartoon and you'd have some fine material to work with.

Anyway, Toups is right on about the need for a Wii Ghostbusters game. Considering the last good game to come out of the franchise was Ghostbusters II for the Gameboy, one of these sorts of things is long overdue.

Might be pretty cool!

That first video makes it look pretty fucking dark for a Ghostbusters game, with all the urban wreckage and shrieks of terror.

Dude, who doesn't want to take on the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man in glorious 3D?

Actually this looks very much in line with the original Ghostbusters concept as Dan Aykroyd wrote it. And, as far as I'm concerned, this is more than enough reason to prohibit these people from touching the liscence. As a life-long ghostbusters fan I'd much prefer something more kid friendly in the vein of the first CBS and Extreme cartoons or the NOW comic.

You know, watching that first video again, some of those screams sound like they were lifted directly from X-Com: UFO Defense. Though I think that game used a lot of stock sound effects, too.

And while Bill Murray didn't write anything, he did ad lib half the film to make it actually good.

I remember that Aykroyd was trying to shop around a script for a new Ghostbusters a while back . . . as I understand it, the failure of Evolution "proved" that nobody liked Ghostbusters stuff anymore, and the studios balked. A shame, as there's certainly milk left in that cow.

Script? It was no script. Aykroyd can't write scripts. He writes treatments and worlds and technology. He's a Tom Clancy for fictional technology and what he writes is a bore because he is a nerd.

yeah but man sometimes shit happens and then who ya gonna call?

Most of the destruction and people-getting flung around is more to do with demonstrating the state of their game engine and what possibilities it offers to a potential publisher, I'd imagine.

Man this is exactly the kind of city-slickin' shit I envisioned when I first drove around Manhattan in that NES Turtles game.

That Peter Venkman video is some seriously uncanny valley shit.

I'd be really excited if this came out, even though I think it won't be very good?

I just hope this game requires the use of ghost traps and team startegy.

Yeah, this was one of my favorite parts of the Gameboy Ghostbusters II. Though your partner was prone to getting stuck behind a desk halfway across the level, when he was around you would have to use the shoot-and-trap mechanic.

Right now the system is all evoking memories of the cartoon, where scientists made a laser that vaporized ghosts, but made them more powerful or something.

If it makes you guys feel any better, a version of beatmania IIDX featuring the Ghostbusters theme was present at AICN.

As hilarious as it was, I am a little disappointed that the remix isn't THAT great.

Nevertheless, the prospect of Bemani AC outside of Japan is very exciting.

Yeah, too bad it's in the goddamned fucking UK.

Also, I find the Japanese guy trying to sing the lyrics to be pretty hilarious. Ghos Bustuhs!!
