So I just recently found a mint condition Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at a Slacker's the other day, bought it and brought it home and played the crap out of it. There's just something about this game that's better on dreamcast than any other system.

There are a ton of really unknown, obscure, or just plain rare games for this system and I know I'm hardly scratching the surface of the Dreamcast. Seriously tell me all the good games, import and not, regardless of genre (including the best sports and racing games, even), so I can build my collection and fast.

Currently I have
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Project Justice
King of Fighters 1999 dream match
King of Fighters Evolution
Jet Grind Radio
Psychic Force 2012
Zombie Revenge
Tech Romancer

on import I have
Fighting Vipers 2
Last Blade 2
Virtua Fighter 3tb
Mobile Suit Gundam EEF vs. Zeon & DX

So talk about good games and ask me what I think about any of the above games if you like. If there is a game on dreamcast that's on other systems and you like it better, explain why. I like to have the best versions of games, for obvious reasons.

Sword of the Berzerk: Guts Rage is a good action game, Ikaruga is the best port of the game, Illbleed is interesting in a 10 dollars or less sort of way, Shenmue II, rez (better on the ps2 though).

Third plug for Sword of the Berserk, though it can get a tad repetitive. The ps2 Berserk game looks way better.

Soul Calibur 1.

Requires a DC keyboard, but Typing of the Dead is fantastic. It's also available as a PC game, though it's probably harder to locate that version, and the stupidity of using a keyboard while you sit on your couch adds to the experience. Also, if judged by how well it sets the mood, it's got maybe the best video game voice acting ever. Okay, that's hyperbole, but I certainly enjoyed the voice acting.

And Bangai-O. Man, I love Treasure games as a rule, but that one's still my favorite, easy.

Edit: Well that's not what I meant by "locate" but sure. It's still better on your couch, I promise.

Zero Gunner 2 is also fantastic.
And Ooga Booga is wildly fun multiplayer.

I love Project Justice.

What do you think of Psychic Force 2012?
I know a lot of people don't like it, but I have had it for forever and I really love it.

Try Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: 0079. It might just be one of the better Gundam games out there.

I also really enjoyed Silver. I got to the last dungeon and stopped playing, and when I recently picked it up to finally finish it, I couldn't remember how to play.

If you see Seventh Cross Evolution anywhere for real cheap, give it a try. Its very odd. If I remember correctly, you could evolve your little crustacean thing into a car with a torso.

Record of Lodoss War was my Diablo when I was growing up.

if you're on a fighting game kick, the darkstalkers compilation was pretty dope.

come to think of it, i don't think i really played anything else on the DC EXCEPT fighting games, rez, and ikaruga. so i might as well mention that the DC has a decent port of Super Street Fighter II Turbo and an almost arcade-perfect port of Capcom vs. SNK 2.

psychic force is really fun actually. i've had mine forever as well and the thing just doesn't get old. I just love campy ass anime themed games in general.

I think i'm going to pick up silver because of repeated recommendations, so it better be good.

also, rent a hero is on my list, does anyone currently own it and enjoy?

Typing of the Dead is one of the only games I've ever bought 2 copies of and kept one sealed just in case the other disc dies. I did not buy it as a collectible. That game is meant to be played. To death.

Something like 10 zombies and a boss were killed while making this post.

Bangai-O!

I'd like to provide another vote for Power Stone. The second one is also worth playing, I think, even though the gameplay isn't as tight.

Maken X is a very underappreciated Dreamcast game. Sega gave it a terrible localization that cut out a lot of the story and had painful voices, but it still is an Atlus R&D1 game. It has awesome Kaneko character designs(and you get to play as most of the characters) and a branching story based on moral choices by the player. Two of the bosses are the US president and the Pope. It also has a really good graphics engine that runs at 60fps most of the time.

A lot of people seem to be unhappy with the gameplay, but I didn't find any problems. Maybe someone in this thread can say why they didn't like it. I approach it as a first person version of the melee combat in Zelda 64, based around Z-targeting. It can be difficult to deal with multiple enemies at once, but I think that's how it is supposed to be. The game is never unfair though-once you master the lock on and strafing you can deal with any encounter.

I always wanted Rent-a-Hero, because I liked playing as the character in Fighters-Megamix.

I always got killed by some powerful monster in the second stage of Seventh Cross. I don't know if I was just rushing through or just wasn't very good, but I sure had a lot of fun with the first one and a half stages.

Go for the Virtual On. I've got the one on the Saturn and the Dreamcast one, and they are both really fun.

DC is probably your best bet for Bangai-O and Twinkle Star Sprites.

Play Twinkle Star Sprites!

Record of Lodoss War is a near-perfect consolization of Diablo games. Which is great if you couldn't get into Diablo because it was too PC.

Power Stone 2, Psychic Force 2012, and most definitely Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram. And Street Fighter Alpha 3, the World Tour mode is awesome.

Virtual On is good, but the controls are half the fun with that game, and the DC pad doesn't really cut it - the DC sticks are still ridiculously expensive last I checked, probably more now - but the saturn ones are probably still available and cheaper, usable with the DC via the Total Control 3 (specifically that one), and may not function with other converters.

Power Stone 1/2 are fairly different (its not so clean cut as 2>1 as usual), so if you check out one definitely check out the other.

If you already own Marvel vs. Capcom 2, I would advocate looking for an updated rip of the game. The soundtrack is absolutely horrendous and there are isos of MvC2 which address this issue. Look for "Marvel vs Capcom 2 Plus" or something along those lines.

Don't forget Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for a weird fighting game.

I believe there is a fan translation of Segagaga going on/finished, if you'd want to look into that.

Roommania 203 is a pretty obscure game. You throw ping pong balls at a dude to get him to do things.

Ooga Booga is only good as a party game. As a one player affair it's boring.

It sounds strange coming from me, but I had a lot of fun with NFL2k2. It was nice and fast, and enjoyable for thirty minutes at a time every once in a while. And if you get 4 people together it's even better.

Powerstone 2 doesn't have a lot of the magic that Powerstone 1 does. Everytime I pull it out everyone gets bored within 15 minutes. Powerstone one can keep people pretty entertained for several hours.

In that same vein, Crazy Taxi 1 is a lot better than CT2. More interesting city, arguable better GO FAST music.

All the King of Fighters ports are pretty good. I say get 98 and 2K1 but that's me. Evolution is a bit bare bones, but still nice. I can't remember the exact naming problem with DC KoFs so someone can help me out there?

Dreamcast Recommendation page.

Coming out of lurking to recommend:
Chu Chu Rocket (you might lose friends over this one though)
Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves
The NFL 2k series, super fun and can be easily found for usually $5 or less
Virtua Tennis, for the same reasons as stated above
Toy Commander
Samba De Amigo but only if you can get the maracas
Sega Rally 2

Don't get due to better versions on newer consoles:
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike for DC: apparently it's got some bugs or weird things that makes the Anniversary Collection on ps2/Xbox superior.
Space Channel 5: 1 and 2 are both sold together on ps2 for under $10.
Skies of Arcadia: The Gamecube version doesn't have a retarded random encounter rate.

Recommending Soul Reaver for DC due to nice graphics.

Also, there's this... shooter by Capcom featuring Mega Man and Resident Evil zombies and other sundries that is satisfying in bizarre, mind harming ways. I don't remember its name.

Border Down and Under Defeat are two of the best shmups to come out this century (and some of the best ever), both on the DC. Under Defeat is pretty easy to find new still.

Most of the other good reasons for DC games are also shmups. Most of the non-shooters got ported to other systems. Shenmue is pretty great if you like strange RPGs ( I don't know how else to discribe it ).

Yeah Grandia 2 is some horrid shit. Good if you've never played an RPG before though!

Shenmue is "a day in Japan" simulator. You pretty much walk around and do things. Normal everyday things. You talk to people. You play Space Harrier. You feed a cat. It takes a different mindset to enjoy that. It's my favorite game on anything. II even more so.

Border Down is worth more than Radiant Silvergun now adays.

Maybe that is why I remember it being so good, it was one of the first RPG's that I played. Although I also enjoyed Grandia 3, so maybe I just love the battle system too much?

I've been looking for Cannon Spike for yours. I can't find any place that has it. I played the crap out of it on the Demo Dreamcast in EB.

Neither rare nor obscure, but let me just say that the Dreamcast port of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is probably the pinnacle of the series.

Also, seconding Border Down. It's the only G-Rev game with noticeable Tatio qualities.

Also, Giga Wing 2 is a definite for some serious danmaku action. The 4-player simultaneous mode is pure isanity!

Illbleed is an AMAZING game if you stick with it, and a possible contender for my favorite overall experience playing a game. That said however, there is a horrible learning curve, and every level has at least one thing that is ball-bustingly frustrating (jumping puzzle in the second level comes to mind).

But its cheaper than god himself and there's no shame in cheating via a Pro-Action replay to ward off any of the six ways to die in that game.

ALSO... Mars Matrix. Not quite as fun as Giga Wing 2, but a little more refined in its taste.
