Right, I beat twilight princess and I haven't touched by wii since. I'm a lonely lonely guy.

So then I found an article on the top ten most anticipated wii games and noticed "Sadness" among the lot. The trailer makes the game look like the most immersive survival horror/story/adventure/we game so far and granted I'll pee my pants, I'm really excited about this game. However, I have qualms about the actual gameplay and if it will be true to the trailer, and also how long gameplay like this can last.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sadness+wii&search=Search

and two announcements http://www.nintendospin.com/previews/wii/1533/sadness.html http://www.gamedaily.com/sadness/wii/game-main/5283

and it also seems like the game will follow a bit in the footsteps of penumbra where you must make use of only whats available in the environment which I always thought makes games way more realistic and scary then say, survival horror games where you get rapid fire rocket launchers and what not.

I'm finding it hard to be excited for this yet. That trailer seems to have no gameplay footage whatsoever, and it's kind of boring and derivative besides ("Every one of us... has it in themselves... darkness..." yawn.)

it seems to have as much gameplay as a typical trailer does. Assuming that all of that is actually gameplay (some of it is definitely NOT gameplay, but the part with the rats and the running look CGI)

Its been one of the first non-first party Wii titles that I've been psyched about. Especially after seeing what Necro-nesia was like.

Looks like live-action film to me, look at the amazing shadow detail on her dress. I'm seeing zero gameplay footage anywhere.

Not saying this game sucks, just that we don't know anything about it yet.

Yeah. Last I looked all they had was some live-action "concept demo" stuff.

I love that this was one of the first games announced, though. Have any of you looked at the mission statement on the developer's website? It's amazing.

If they follow through, bravo. It sounds great. Even if they do, though: good lord. Sometimes it's wise to keep your ambitions under your hat.

I think this developer has pretty much no credibility. They're working on getting a publisher, I believe, but as of yet, they've only released trailers for their multitude of "announced" games.

They have a nice website though.

Yeah, I don't see why anyone is getting excited over this title given that absolutely no gameplay footage or even details of the game itself have been released. Until they show the actual game, I shall remain skeptical.

There were some nice looking Raid over the River screens a while back that made me slightly more confident that these folks were for real. But I'm much to lazy to hunt them down now.

you know, looking at the site (albeit a little bit too stylish), the company seems genuine and not just trying to make a title for the hell of money. They say that they choose Nintendo as their choice of console because they believe in Nintendo's game theory: to introduce a new experience to video gaming to replace the old repetitive tradition of creating newer and newer incarnations of the same damn game with more textures and polys. That at least gives me faith in their company, and I meekly trust that they wont release a game unless it truly lives up to what is promised. (Of course, their publisher might make them). On the other hand, their bloated description of raid over the river for DS sounds kinda fishy. They seem to promise real emotional experience in a shooting game... Not to say shooting games aren't totally badass.

edit: found some screens http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/marios-warp-room/1781-raid-over-river-revolution.html

this is while it was still for the revolution.

edit: my bad, it seems to be for both, here's wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_over_the_River and screenshots: http://img89.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=raidovertheriver7dd.jpg

Raid over the River "simulator-like tactical elements...or taking into account the relief during battle."

Meaning your pilot is going to have to pee?

It's The Sims: Air Battle!

Okay okay, being a dick aside, that bit about there being 3 different epochs sort of earned my interest.

The graphics in Raid over the River looked slick as hell. In one of those screenshots, the bottom screen (radar of some kind?) seemed to have some kind of path drawn on it through the enemies displayed? I don't know what that means, but it intrigues me.

I believe the word "vaporware" should make its way into this thread.

If you want to be psyched about an artsy non-first party title for Wii, I guess you should focus on No More Heroes for now. Since it will actually be released.

Scuba Game! Plane Game!

Seriously, I've never been so excited about 3 second videogame clips in my life. I'll inevitably be disappointed by both, I'm sure.

Actually, I'd really like them to title them Scuba Game! and Plane Game! And just embrace the philosophy behind those titles and the nature of the controller. Or I guess Scuba Game doesn't need the exclamation, but you get the idea.

Someone needs to photoshop one of those "I want to believe" posters from the x-files with the nibris logo.

At this point I strongly believe that nibris is just an experiment in how easy it is to dupe games journalists. Their first announcement was "Raid Over the River", which was just a mock-up screenshot of a 3D version of the Atari 2600 game "River Raid"; they said that they wanted to develop it for the Wii Revolution, though, which made it THE FIRST ANNOUNCED GAME FOR THE WII REVOLUTION (OMG SCOOP!!). A couple weeks later someone with half a brain decided to actually follow up with Nintendo, who said that they'd never heard of nibris, at which point nibris said "oh, well, maybe we'll make it for the DS 'cuz that's easier to get published for". And now they're making random live-action ads for more games that they won't actually make and putting them on YouTube.

What I'm really saying here is that I'm jealous that all their sound and fury signifying diddly is getting so much press. I guess what I need to do is scribble something on a napkin and say that it's concept art for THE FIRST ANNOUNCED GAME FOR THE XBOX720 OMG!!!11!! AND ITS GONNA HAVE RADIAMERSIVE AI, SO ITS LIEK EVERYBODY'S REAL PEOPLE! And then all the lazy game sites will snatch up the story and give me lots of publicity for doing absolutely nothing.

I love the concept of something like Sadness, and I'm all for new experiences on the Wii... but part of me says that even if this game sees release, it'll suck. A lot.

I'd like to be excited for this, but it seems like a perfect example of a game idea that should be shelved until the developer has a little more grounding and maybe another game or two under its belt. Seriously, who are these guys? High aspirations and a cinematic eye are respectable, but is there any talent at the place?

I suppose we'll have Double Bloob on the DS to give us an idea of what they can do. I hate to rely on something called Double Bloob to do that, but I can only work with what they give me.

Holy shit, that article links to a press release about their DS game "DOuble Bloob" - look at the text in the background of this screenshot:

"Double Pang"? Hm, Pang... sounds familiar - here's another screenshot...

my favorite part of that website is when they refer to Krakow as "where East meets West" which may be geographically true in some ways but really just reminds me of the 1up article in which japan and "the west" are different. I bet in Krakow everyone not only rides the train, but also goes bear/deer hunting all the damn time!

The text in the back of the menu suggests that they were going to get the Pang license, but couldn't. I kind of like Pang, and this game looks pretty, so it should be okay.

yes, but only because the balls look like puyos, the main character reminds me of ronald Mcdonald in a raincoat yet sports a generic anime avatar and has a girly throwing pose, and its spelt hrpoooon.

no but really, I think they added enough to the game to call it unique. Sure it's pang, but when you look at it, the most prominent thing is the art style less so the fact it's a total pang ripoff

and pang is good, seriously.

If this thread is just about video games coming out/recently out for the Wii in general, that new WarioWare game is probably my favorite in the series so far in my initial playthrough (note: Haven't had a lot of time to play yet).

In a console filled with minigames it's probably the best minigame collection so far, seeing as how Rayman was filled with games that were perfect, games that were good but went on way too long and games that just plain sucked and Monkey Ball was so full of crap that it's hard to really sort through.

I think this thread was going to be about Wii games in general to begin with, but now it's all about bashing nibris (which is fun!)

If you wanna actually talk about Warioware Smooth Moves, I'd recommend starting a new thread or else it'll probably just get drowned out by the nibris.

Well in that case

I guess it's fine if they rip off Pang. Game designs get ripped off all the time and sometimes those ripoffs are better than the originals. They shouldn't really be commended for it, and their kind of lack of originality there casts some pretty big doubts on their abilities to deliver anything they're talking about with Sadness and Raid over the River.

Shit, if Raid over the River actually comes out (which it probably won't?), I'm imagining it'll just be a generic arcade shooter.

EDIT: Pang not Puyo. I'm retarded.

I mean that it plays differently to Pang. You know. Not just Pang but something at least slightly tweaked to make it distinct enough. Since, you know, just making Pang with a different name is not legally the right thing to do.

SO! Ronald Mcdonald can die for all I care right now (I don't have a DS anyways). Who wants to talk about thorn, darkness and orb! (all by crossbeam studios so we can make fun of the company if we feel the need to make fun of all the games as a whole)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkness_%28video_game%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orb_%28video_game%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorn_%28video_game%29

The current screenshots remind me of the old MMORPGs back before they went all pervy shiny and korean. That actually might be a good thing, I kinda like it. The concepts are definitely appealing, they are kind of quasi medieval and adventure. Sorta reminds me of Ultima X ascension which I played and got to the first enemy and couldn't beat him and promptly gave up. There has been a drought of games like this, or, at least the newer ones like oblivion and dreamfall don't quite seem to capture the nostalgic feel (not that I've played them before). About 99 percent of what I just said was based off a handful of screenshots.

Orb also has some neat stuff of 3 interrelated storylines. You play through the game with 3 different characters and their adventures cross. There will be similarities and differences between the places and people that the characters experience. Not that this idea is anything new, but a lot of the most moving videogames/books/tvshows(heroes!) use devices like this, so I hope it'll be something good. The character designs kickass too.

Darkness is about vampires and the describe it as "resident evil meets zelda" so I'm sold. I don't want to read the interviews right now.

Thorn is supposedly a side project and my eyes are hurting so I don't feel like talking about it. It's cyberpunk stuff though.

But all together, Crossmoon studios kinda seems to be bringing three distinctly different settings onto the wii which makse me excited.
