you know what?
metal gear solid 4 fucking sucks, and can go to hell.
it's kingdom hearts 2 starring solid snake, now with semi-realistic gun controls.
as far as i'm concerned, as long as shit like mgs4 is a reason a human being would pay money to purchase a videogame console, no one is winning the "console war".
also, mgs4 has awakened me to the Very Strong Possibility that final fantasy xiii might Violently Suck as well.
and now nintendo is releasing a little plastic click-on nub for the wiimote so that it can actually implement motion controls. for fuck's sake. i hope to jesus it has a bypass port in the bottom, so you can string extra stuff on there. next thing you know they're going to tell me that my nunchuck is obsolete because it doesn't have a bypass port. they're going to release a click-on battery pack to boost the power to the unit so that twelve AA batteries will be enough to power the wiimote, the sensor pack, the nunchuck, and the nunchuk-pass-through head-mounted sensor cap (think "miner hat"). shigeru miyamoto's next megaton game will be a special edition of mario kart wii that requires you to use all these things plus the wii wheel while standing on top of the balance board.
actually, apparently nintendo's big announcement for tomorrow is "wii music". i know this for a fact. not sure if it's a secret or not. if it's supposed to be a secret, WHOOPS! there goes my NDA!
in less than six months time, you too can haul wiimotes over to grandma's bubble ward in the hospital and belligerently shake plastic in hopes that tinny midi renditions of classical music will sound "correct".
meanwhile, microsoft's shameless ripping off of the "spirit of the wii", or whatever the hell else you're supposed to call it, looks pretty good!
i'm going to go ahead and cast a tentative vote of no-confidence in all japanese game publishers; i might revise this later.
anyway. |
wait really i had been studiously avoiding all mgs4 media
fuck i thought it was going to be pretty good

This trailer bothers me because it wasn't funny. The game parts, anyway. Anytime there was a joke it was just a movie clip. |

Come on dude
The two announced upcoming Wii games now are Mario Sluggers and Warioland Shake
We know about Animal Crossing and Wii Music and maybe Wii Motor Sports still exists, but there has to be more
Plus DS, we don't know shit about DS
I mean Miyamoto is speaking, he can't just be there to show off Wii Music _________________

When you sound so bitter about everything, it makes me start to feel a little bitter, too.

Infamous looks to me like someone saw crackdown and decided to run with it.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36316.html
with helpings of MORE SERIOUS
does anyone else think that a a more down to earth crackdown-esque game focused on EXPLOSIONS (setting car bombs, etc) would be more interesting?
edit: also it looks like the DS is going the way of the gba? |

So, if I'm piecing together this information right, then the main character of Saint's Row 2 is the same main character as in Saints Row 1. He was in a coma and badly burned, so they did reconstructive surgery on him to explain why you can totally change his looks at the start of the game. However in SR2 you can also play as a female character, which mean that every female PC in SR2 is a transvestite.
This is some trailblazing shit right here. _________________

Well I hope so because so far the PS3 has done nothing for me. NOTHING. I've not popped one boner over the PS3s output so far. Not one! MGS4 came close, initially, then people started playing it and their impressions were ??? and I was very :/ _________________

Did they forget on who's console they were able to become a household name, attract the masses and achieve a dominate place in this industry?(sure as hell wasn't on a nintendo console.) Did they forget who saved their asses from bankruptcy seven years ago? They must have forgotten that Sony, not only did they distribute, but also paid off all of the lost revenue on that craptacular movie called Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Sony had fork up an ass load of money since it was the biggest box office bomb at the time. Hell, even Enix hesitated to join with Square after that blunder. Sony even owns 8% of their stock. So here's to you Square, for pulling off the biggest backstabbey EVER!!. At a time where Sony could have really used your help, you just spit in their faces. I really hope karma comes around and bites these money hungry scumbags. Hopefully no one will help then when them it does. _________________

And even that's kind of a load of shit.
Look at it this way. There are so many enormous exclusive games released every year. Halo, Gears, MGS, Smash Bros., etc. If you're a Regular Person, it probably costs about $200 just to get the Big Games on a single system for a year. And these are the ones you can play forever. They'll last you a good long time.
It makes you wonder, like, who's the guy that's going out wasting his $60 on Dark Sector. What kind of person is this, in his compulsion to feed the GameStop cash register. Isn't this a person that already owns both the 360 and the PS3? To anyone that's going to be wasting their time with these low-key games, $400 for a PS3 is nothing. They already have both. They're already spending huge portions of their income on games, and have everything on earth.
So why not just put it on one system and be done? Some systems are better suited for some games than others. Why do we laugh whenever Microsoft trots out some desperate attempt to be Wii-like and attract The E Audience? Because the Xbox 360 is for frat boys. It's not all things to all people.
Are the Bro'd-out Gears of War 2 players the same people salivating over Emo Matrix Shiva Motorcycle Shlock? No. If you make an RPG on the Xbox, it has to be Western and Manly, like Too Human. It has to be Lord of the Rings-like, and it has to be full of action and guns and Diabloisms.
These board room decisions lead to shit like Beautiful Katamari. A game that makes us tap our cheeks to make sure we aren't paralyzed on one side, because the sticks aren't symmetrical, and a game that no one would buy anyway because the King of All Cosmos doesn't have a chainsaw on the bottom of his dick. |
It's posts like these that make me wonder if you know and real people or just move back and forth between the computer to make posts and read gamefaqs/IGN and the couch to play videogames. I work in an office full of tech dudes who don't care about FFXIII very much at all, but they're pretty likely to pick it up. Some have 360s some have PS3s and all of whom found out about FFXIII hitting Xbox 360 by reading Digg rather than IGN or one of the game blogs. They probably don't even know FF Versus XIII exists.
I also have a group of friends from college who are all trying to figure out which console to buy. None of them will buy FFXIII, but some of them probably care about this news because it's a sign that the games they do want to play will probably be available to them regardless of which system they buy. This is important to them and that's why it's big news.
So yeah, the world is much, much bigger than the people who feel betrayed by Square, and this news is really meant for them. They're the ones who are going to be making a majority of the FFXIII sales and they're the "market realities" Toups was talking about.

Thoughts on FF13:
People who play Final Fantasy are still paid for by their parents.
They were only bought one, only one, are you sure this is the one you want? Because I'm not getting you another one, console.
Now their horse no longer has the only exclusive they wanted it for, and everyone else in high school is playing Halo 3 on Live.
