The report I'm reading makes it clear that they didn't specify new MArio and Zelda games. Just that both teams were at work. Let's fight about this Mr Mech. _________________ tim? |

Alternatively: Hope these games sell so they can make a Kid Icarus 2. |

It has around 50 different instruments, like drums, guitar, violins, saxaphone, violin, taiko. It also apparently has lessons. To paly the virtual instruments, I guess. They're still talking about it.
Edit: You can record yourself playing. You can also record yourself on multiple instruments and put them together to make one song.
They've also pre-empted not enough cowbell jokes by having someone play the cowbell. They have 4 people playing the Mario theme, but they just seem to be banging their controllers around and the game makes the music out of it. |

So, if I'm piecing together this information right, then the main character of Saint's Row 2 is the same main character as in Saints Row 1. He was in a coma and badly burned, so they did reconstructive surgery on him to explain why you can totally change his looks at the start of the game. However in SR2 you can also play as a female character, which mean that every female PC in SR2 is a transvestite.
This is some trailblazing shit right here. |
| 108 wrote: |
hey now. you never know -- they could be full-blown post-op transsexuals.
that would be trailblazing. |
Besides, what if the dude in Saint's Row 1 was actually a chick that looked like a man and is just returning to being a chick?
It's been done before people. Anyone remember a little game called Metroid? _________________ Still alive. |

This could be awesome in entirely unintentional ways.
Have they mentioned CAPTAIN RAINBOW yet??

| Ah, I read elsewhere than Reggie specified the Wii Music video and music were pre-recorded, so they weren't actually playing on stage, which is a relief. |

Wii Sports 2 was the only big announcement

Wii Music looked pathetic as demonstrated, though it seems a little unclear as to what degree of actual creation, if any, will be allowed outside of these mimeographed midi reenactments. I mean, actually making terrible-sounding songs with ridiculous motion gestures could be fun, but this automatic note-scaled, tempo-locked song-facsimile stuff, yeah not so much.
I mean there isn't anything, you know, interesting about DDR/Guitar Hero - but at the very least they are somewhat rewarding and viscerally engaging.
I mean, I am alright with a new Wii Sports game, that's pretty alright, you guys think that's alright? It is slightly humorous that they have basically admitted the inability of the Wiimote to deliver upon its initial promise. Slightly, though, I mean there is no laughing involved.
But, I mean, what the hell was the deal with the rest of that filth? So, two down, one to go: there has been, gamewise, nothing of real note so far at this years Yearly Videogame Hypefest?

Just because they didn't mention something doesn't mean it doesn't exist

In a way, even that is disappointing since laughing at a live Wii Something demonstration is about the most you can hope for from Nintendo's last couple E3's... and now even that's pre-recorded. _________________

There wasn't anything of note last year either. Honestly it's going to take one hell of a megaton to dethrone Megaman 9 as the most significant thing to happen this year. _________________

Without any competitive aspect, I don't see how Wii Music can sustain anyone's interest for more than fifteen minutes. Wii Sports and Wii Fit's games invite players to best each other in simple challenges. Wii Music apparently asks players to define their own purpose for using the program, ideally by collaborating in groups of four. It's too nebulous an experience for the kind of audience they're trying to reach, though recording fake performances multiple times to assemble music videos might appeal to extremely bored or lonely children.
Nintendo's plan was to use E3 to showcase the least appealing stuff they have in the pipeline. They know they don't need to expend nearly as much energy to promote the next Mario/Zelda/whatever. |
