Man I'm kind of more excited about this wii add-on than anything else. I'll probably still get the PS3 version of FF13, if only because... well, I dunno. out of principle at this point. I don't expect to "enjoy" the game much either way. And I only have like 1 PS3 game right now :(

Do you guys think this installing games to the 360 hard drive announcement does anything to pave the way for a MGS4 port?

Does FF13 have an actual release date yet?

The new 360 interface sounds nice, I guess. Aren't there already avatars? Or is this some dumb mii ripoff.

Are there screens of any of this stuff yet?

Dude there's like videos of this stuff all over the internet where are you?

I'm at work.

It's 6 PM.

This is part of my grand "don't get fired" initiative.

Yeah, but I am speculating on the amount of Fanboy Tears. Which by the way, feels like goddamn Christmas and my Birthday again (Because Christmas and My Birthday are within two days of each other normaly).

We need a "hilarious internet reaction to E3 bombshells" subthread in the axe or something.

eh, I can kind of sympathize in the sense that keeping it PS3 exclusive would show some kind of principle on Squeenix's part. It's kind of disappointing, in that sense. But I haven't really expected much in the way of "principle" from Squeenix since Kingdom Hearts, so this does not shock me.

I generally like console exclusivity too, because ideally it helps ensure a game will be of higher quality, since it can be tailored to the console's strengths. Almost all of the greatest games of the last generation have all been exclusive, with some of them getting inferior ports to competing consoles a year or so after release... and that's still more or less true, now.

That being said... lol internet amirite guys?

That's not really what I mean. Just the idea that, you know. This here is a PS3 game. It reflects the values of the PS3. For whatever good or ill that may entail.

(and yeah it's a silly idea but there are implicit values to each console, more so in this generation than any other -- even if those values are shallow and rarely have any impact on what the games are like)

(and this will have zero effect on what FFXIII is like, except for the fact that the 360 version will have (probably quite hilarious) achievements)

And no, none of this really matters.

In other words, I don't think it's "wrong". Just a little ignoble. And hey, that's the reality of the videogames market right now. I don't fault them for it one bit.

As I was saying to Balbanes. The culprit is not Microsoft "paying them off" (regardless of what may have gone on behind the scenes.) The real "moneyhat" here is nothing more than market realities.

Not any more than Resident Evil 4 reflected the values of the Gamecube.

Except that it kind of did. That's one of the reasons Mikami made it an exclusive -- because he believed in many of the same principles that Nintendo did at the time. And RE4 is still far better suited to the Gamecube controller.

The only difference I see between the PS3 and the 360 is PS3 owners probably like Japanese games a bit more than 360 owners. It's not much at all. They do the same things, they grab for the same market. Square wasn't going to to anything interesting with FFXIII anyway, and this isn't going to change that.

Ehhhh kind of. I mean, Gears of War is very much characteristic of the 360 in just about every way. Though it would not seem out of place in the PS3's lineup, it would not be nearly as appropriate. Ditto for MGS4 being on the 360.

Or, I dunno, Halo on the original Xbox.

The markets are not especially different, granted. But the consoles place value in things somewhat differently. See also: the increased focus on online play for the 360.

Etc etc etc. I know I'm splitting hairs.

well, tim is kind of right. you should still play MGS4, though. if only to... be cleansed.

I need to hear more about this.

Wii Music is not a good or bad name. It works.

It has around 50 different instruments, like drums, guitar, violins, saxaphone, violin, taiko. It also apparently has lessons. To paly the virtual instruments, I guess. They're still talking about it.

Edit: You can record yourself playing. You can also record yourself on multiple instruments and put them together to make one song.

They've also pre-empted not enough cowbell jokes by having someone play the cowbell. They have 4 people playing the Mario theme, but they just seem to be banging their controllers around and the game makes the music out of it.

This could be awesome in entirely unintentional ways.

Have they mentioned CAPTAIN RAINBOW yet??

Wii Music looked pathetic as demonstrated, though it seems a little unclear as to what degree of actual creation, if any, will be allowed outside of these mimeographed midi reenactments. I mean, actually making terrible-sounding songs with ridiculous motion gestures could be fun, but this automatic note-scaled, tempo-locked song-facsimile stuff, yeah not so much.

I mean there isn't anything, you know, interesting about DDR/Guitar Hero - but at the very least they are somewhat rewarding and viscerally engaging.

I mean, I am alright with a new Wii Sports game, that's pretty alright, you guys think that's alright? It is slightly humorous that they have basically admitted the inability of the Wiimote to deliver upon its initial promise. Slightly, though, I mean there is no laughing involved.

But, I mean, what the hell was the deal with the rest of that filth? So, two down, one to go: there has been, gamewise, nothing of real note so far at this years Yearly Videogame Hypefest?

There wasn't anything of note last year either. Honestly it's going to take one hell of a megaton to dethrone Megaman 9 as the most significant thing to happen this year.
