as seen on the amazing Insert Credit!!

It looks to be full of very-Japanese goodness, a'la Katamari and Tomarunner and stuff. How is it? What's the gameplay like? How's the translation?
Is it worth $30?
this review has certainly sold me on the Japanese version, but now I really need to know how good the translation is, and how much was lost in the process. |

I'd venture a guess that the game is primarily about physical and visual comedy, rather than conversational or verbal comedy, so I don't imagine that translation differences are going to matter much. Either way, I doubt that they ejected anything.
I'd say that the game would be well worth the $30.00, because something tells me that it's going to come out on a somewhat limited run, this being (in theory anyway) then end of the PS2 generation. So, even if you don't like it, the game might end up being fairly rare. Or maybe not. I'm guessing so though, since they've further strangled the game's potential market by making in an EB/Gamestop exclusive.
Then again, I'm not entirely sure what prompted that motion for exclusivity. Maybe other companies just refused to sell it. That is, of course, only speculation. It could just as easily be business wranglings. Either way, I'd certainly be interested to know the reasons behind this exclusive distribution deal.
Another theory is that maybe EB/Gamestop is the only company willing to take a chance on anymore PS2 games, but given (what I percieve to be) the poor performance of the PS3, I can't help but second-guess this theory.
edit: Whatever the case, I preordered it (again, I'm sad to say), so hopefully come February I'll be playing it. _________________ Taking a break. |

i read an interview (i think it was on siliconera) with natsume that basically said they hadn't changed any of the game's text. the biggest change they made was having to translate some art-based text within the game. they had to change some of the animated japanese characters into english ones, which was a reason the game was delayed. apparently they were waiting on punchline to do it, but punchline got tied up, so natsume had to call in another company for it.
my copy is preordered and i'm very much looking forward to finally play it |

Um... except whether it's true or not (poor PS3 performance) that's completely irrelevant because Chulip is a PS2 game. You know, the system with the largest installed userbase of any home console? The one that all the people who like RPGs and "quirky" "Japanese-y" games probably already own?
I do wonder about these exclusivity things though... Does Gamestop pay for the exclusive rights, hoping to get the hardcore types into the stores because that's the only place they can get these games? But then again, for niche titles like this it's not like you're going to stumble upon them in Wal-Mart anyway. Though it does irritate my at times since I prefer to buy from Fry's, Gamecrazy, or even Best Buy. Guess I'll just brave the idiots at my local Gamestops... |

I think you're simultaneously missing and reinforcing his point. :)
He was saying that "maybe since it's the end of the PS2's lifecycle, releasing a wacky PS2 game is extra risky. However, given the failure of the PS3, maybe the PS2 still has a lot of life left in it". |

Why was this game delayed for four-ish years exactly? From what I've read the final English build has been finished since forever. Did Natsume just keep getting cold feet?
And on a side note, I'm quite sure that a couple years ago the MSRP listed on GS/EB was 9.99. Dirty pool old boys. _________________

From this interview, it sounds like Punchline kept dragging their feet on translating text that was part of textures, and then they got too busy doing Rule of Rose, so finally Natsume broke down and paid another company to do it. |

Since I'm yuropean and have no chance to get that game, it's time to look around if there are more people from over here that want Chulip ... if so, maybe someone is willing to buy some copies for me/us? _________________

According to Gamestop, it's going to be exclusive to them and out on Valentine's Day with "bonus". And by "bonus" I mean "happy ending". And by "happy ending" I mean "blowjob".

From the lofty peaks of Meg White's nipples, to the depths of James Brown's grave, you have travelled the land far and wide, and for that we salute you. |

Correct me if I am wrong, but Gamestop = EB Games as well right? Will I be able to buy this at EB locations? _________________
