what's that?
I would also like to take this moment to bask in the karmic glory of the fact that I always set my machines on 2 credits per quarter. |

| You run an arcade? Where? |
No, I just have a Neo-Geo 4-slot and a Strider machine, the former of which lives in a local coffee shop (here in Albuquerque), and the latter of which I've retired to the spare room of my house because it breaks down too frequently. |

Right now it's Last Blade 2, Waku Waku 7, Magical Drop 3, and Blazing Star. |

| You have to remember that, as an operator, I have to give the location their part of the split, usually in the 50% range of the take. That's pretty significant, even if they are providing space, security, electricity, etc. The vast majority of expenses are mine and mine alone: the original cost of the machines (Not cheap! The Vortex alone was about $3500.), any repairs/parts for these machines, replacing/rotating machines, any local/state licenses necessary, insurance, et cetera. |
As a followup to this, I find it important to note that I bought my two machines for <$500 each from someone who was desperate to get out of the arcade machine business, I wanted them primarily to own them, and secondarily to make money, and they've long since paid for themselves. The Neo-Geo makes me about $100 a month, although it's been going down lately (someone else has setup a few machines in the same coffee house, and although they're in terrible shape they collectively make a medium-sized dent in my profits). If I'd spent $2-5k on a newer machine, I'd have a much harder time convincing myself to only charge a quarter for 2 credits. |

I've just gotten an interesting lesson on the arcade buissnes. |
This probably also elucidates to you why arcades are quickly disappearing. |
