I'm sorry that you're wrong. You didn't enjoy it, you have only convinced yourself that you did after the fact. Come into the light, Mechanical!

I don't deny, no. But attacking a poster child is pointless and accomplishes nothing, other than letting people know where you stand. Which I feel we've kind of reached the saturation point on with Bioshock hate. People get it. There are those who think Bioshock was crap and they have their reasons. You're not solving anything by constantly reminding people that you thought Bioshock was crap for x,y, and z reason.

The rabid hatred for Bioshock ITT makes me love this board again <3

I was initially confused by DAIS's post too. That's a testament to how spot-on the criticism is.

Dracko's word "middlebrow" is exactly the right term for Bioshock. It's like that film Crash: tedious, aesthetically bankrupt and with a laughably blunt political message that fooled the academy into giving it an Oscar.

Also, now when I talk about the superb Ballard book and the Cronenberg film it lead to, I have to qualify I'm not talking about "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist". :(

Rapid hatred is never a good thing, unless that thing is Hitler. ;(

don't get me wrong, I still have a soft spot for the original bioshock. but I enjoy like it's a b-movie. and it does have really nice atmosphere and convincing level design.

I mean, shame about everything else and all that.

I love the first Bioshock, and am currently playing through it again to get the last few achievements, because it's a good excuse to play through it again.

You don't remember when EA and Square had a publishing deal in PS1 days. Or that Capcom publishes all the Grand Theft Autos in Japan. etc. etc.

Capcom used to publish the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games and some of Midway's output like Blitz, Stranglehold and Psi-Ops too.

I always find it odd when Japanese games get localized in Europe but not the US, like Project Altered Beast (not that we were missing much).

Eidos did a lot of Dreamcast ports for Japanese games in 'Yurp back in the hazy days and Ubi/Atari and the like for the PS1. Otherwise its been a split between big publishers and smaller publishers.

Fun thing heard from PAX.

Anyone playing Alpha Protocol at Sega's booth had to sign a NDA before playing the game. Kinda strange since its gonna be hard to police xxXWeedLord420Xxx posting on GameFAQ's posting his opinions on it but Sega dont seem too confident of it at the moment.

I would actually really like some frontpage posts about some of these.

Wasn't at least one of the Earth Defense Force PS2 games released over in the Frog Countries, along with the EDF hex strategy spinoff?

Also: Ikusagami, and Konami's Oz, both of which looked really great. Ikusagami on the PS2 was what Ninety Nine Nights on the X360 promised.

Both were and in English. Also a bunch of D3 Simple games like the 500FT woman and Zombie Vs Ambulance were released as well.

Yep.

Also, I find it much more interesting that Square-Enix published Persona 4 and Disgaea in Europe. The DS Disgaea and Rhapsody ports too. That's more intriguing because they're publishing games that are their direct competition in the US and Japan. Far different than something like a big company picking up a Modern Warfare or GTA for distribution in Japan.

Also, S-E really seems to want to get into the PC strategy genre by publishing stuff by Western developers. They're releasing a fairly hardcore PC RTS game called Order of War later this month, developed by Wargaming.net. This will be the first Western developed game S-E will release IN the West (as opposed to bringing some Western titles to Japan). S-E is also working closely with Gas Powered Games, and they will publish GPG's Supreme Commander 2.

The genre lines are blurring. RTS and RPGs and TPSs and FPSs... they're all coming together. Eventually we'll have normal genre tags like Action and Drama! Really!

GP2X via Gamepark Holdings wrote:
Gamepark Holdings co. LTD has announced that is has bought the rights to 26 arcade ROMs. GPH are excited about this as it now means it is legal for them to officially add "Arcade Emulator" to the Wiz's specifications.

This is very much the start of the new direction GPH are taking, as you know they are soon to be releasing some new games written by GPH.

1. Propis
2. Kattisier Pattier
3. Assura Cross Wire
4. Rythmos
5. Deicide3
6. Etc…

So when the FunGP website opens they will have a minimum of 30 games available, hopefully users shouldn't get bored, especially with the impending Game Coding Contest on the horizon.

Tony Han (Overseas Sales Manager at GPH) has asked me to convay the message:
"I will compensate your support by doing my work really hard and showing the world market that GPH has really changed."
Tony is doing his upmost to help us make the Wiz a very exciting machine indeed.

Here's a list of all ROMS GPH now own the rights to:

Tiger Heli
Get Star
Slap Fight
Flying Shark
Wardner
Twin Cobra
Rally Bike
Truxton
Hellfire
Twin Hawk
Demon's World
Zero Wing
Fire Shark
Snow Bros.
Out Zone
Vimana
Teki Paki
Ghox
Pipi & Bibi's
Truxton 2
Fixeight
Dogyuun
Grind Stormer
Knuckle Bash
Batsugun
Snow Bros. 2

Bye for now,
Clare.

tl;dr version: GPH bought the Toaplan game rights.

Latest Famitsu news!

The PS3 and 360 versions of NieR (upcoming Square-Enix funded action game by Cavia) are apparently going to be different......somehow. 360 has a male protagonist and is called "NieR Gestalt", PS3 one has a female protagonist and is called "NieR Replicant".

The black guy with the absurd afro in Final Fantasy XIII has a young song with an absurd afro.

Japan getting a tweaked Tatsunoko vs Capcom, presumably based on the US version. Tekkaman Blade has been added as a character, online versus, balancing.

A company called Jelcom is making a DS RPG called "WiZmans World". As far as I know, Jelcom is not a real company but instead some Famitsu fever dream.

Next week's issue will have stuff on Dragon Quest VI DS.

Some selected meaningless scores:
DS SaGa 2 Goddess of Destiny 9778 (31/40)
DS idolm@ster (btw I cry when I masturbate) DS 7887 (30/40)
DS More! Let's live with Hamster. She's had a baby 6666 (24/40)
PSP Ys Seven 8888 (32/40)
Wii Forever Blue 2 9999 (36/40)
Wii House of the Dead Overkill 6666 (24/40)
PS3/360 Terminator Salvation 5775 (24/40)
PS3 Wet 7788 (30/40)
360 Velvet Assassin 7786 (28/40)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand....

The Japanese release of Silent Hill: Homecoming has been canceled.

Ouch.
