Don't think they would. Most games (I've played recently) just put a map or something that acts as window dressing down there. Nothing that forces touch screen controls like the early days of the system.
FF4 handled it pretty well. I don't think it uses the bottom screen for anything outside of a map and battle stats. Shiren did too, just used the other screen as a map or character stats. Etrains uses it as a map, but I've actually been lazy and not making any (outside of the entrance and exit. unlike my meticulous mapping on the first EO. I know this'll bite me in the ass later). Metal Slug 7 is essent
I know it isn't ever going to come in GBA, but I can dream of a possible DS port. I would love to play it on a portable. It's the only way I seem to play games nowadays. _________________

I'd like to try Otomedius, but I don't know if the game is region locked (knowing Konami it prolly is).
Any of you guys order it with that mighty controller? I would love to just see one as it costs $300. Could import a JP system with that kind of loot. _________________

General consensus is that this game will be region-locked.
And yeah, I preordered the LE release that includes the joystick. I'll take photos when the sucker arrives. |
Mayhaps it be time to eventually order a JP X360 system. I'm very sad that the PS3 wasn't the otaku/2ch system of choice. Shocked actually! I was pretty sure it would the shooter system since it has no region lock. I was counting on this fact to make me buy a PS3 eventually. PS2 was the winner last gen, so it looked obvious.
What are the awesome games that I am missing out on overseas? A big list of all them shooters would be appreciable a I stink at knowing their names off the top of my head. I swear someone wrote down a list of JP-only awesome stuff. Damned if I can find that post, however.... _________________

That's a good strategy. At least someone out there is trying to hook the "hardcore" folks. I thought nobody needed those kinds of people anymore T_T
Kinda sad that my taste leans more towards that kinda stuff, too.
MS Japan almost has me as a customer. Their library is shaping up to be very appealing to me.
Side note: been really wanting to play that Tetris: Grandmaster Ace that was ported to Xbox forever ago. Anytime I've read a Colour_Thief post about high-level Tetris, it jazzes me up for some block action. _________________

Is the flight stick wireless? I may be convinced to pick it up if so. I have to sit kinda far from my TV set. _________________

If it for some reason isn't wirless, you can get USB extenders on monoprice.com for cheaper than a videogame magazine. |
You know, I can't believe I didn't think of this. It is so bloody obvious that this is doable. Really should play my consoles more.
Wireless has left me spoiled.
This also means I will have no worries when I get a stick for when Street Fighter IV arrives for the home. _________________

Yeah, I'm sort of counting on the entertainment industry doing well, but buying new hardware seems different to me...I could be wrong. |
Reading some stuff this morning. I thought this story was interesting in response to this little exchange in another thread.
http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN1141365020081212
Headline is Videogame sales up 10%
Despite all the bitching that the industry has been doing about the second hand market affecting quality, desire of sustaining sales over longer periods than received for such huge development costs, even some "piracy" blame, internet, and all the reasons under the sun; someone here is making money. Sales are up all around when everything else seems to have lost sales this year due to being in worse times. This is all compared to last year when apparently we were in a financial "paradise"!
The industry can just shove it. Any loss of money and suffering I will totally blame on gross mismanagement. The same reason almost anything else in any other business field ends up failing.
The draw of fantasy and escape. Always shines brightest in the worst of times.
PROTIP: On top of all this, I hear that Best Buy has been hoarding Wii systems so they can be the go-to place this Xmas. People still will blow money despite the times on these toys. Still can't believe that more than 2 years after release and it's still the "hot" thing to get. _________________

I will buy 4 copies and gift them to random people. Anything that lets them now I want Sega's other wonderful arcade racers (Scud Race, plz) and Planet Harriers _________________

Those both run pretty good on the 360 backwards compat now you know, if you're a 360 owner. |
I don't trust its BC powers. Besides I have a plain ol' Xbox I use for these things. Mainly because 3S stutters if you high jump on x360; doesn't do that on past-gen xbox. _________________

I just want a price drop. I'll pay $300 for the system only because I really want to play this Demon's Souls that's all the rage recently.
BC doesn't matter to me so much anymore. PS2 price drop means I can now keep a JP PS2 around instead of worrying about what to do when the modded one breaks. _________________

I just hope it uses a good netcode because that game is all about tight combos.
I can't wait for the inevitable cry that all people are using are storm, magneto, sentinel. As if that hasn't been the case for the past 10 years. _________________

the only remedy for the x360 pad is to sand it down. really!
best option if you don't want to spend money an a stick/fightpad/hori version of x360 controller.
i still maintain that the SNES controller is the best controller. that snes styled controller for gamecube by hori was the best thing i ever bought. _________________

I've yet to see an SF4 stick anywhere. Stores here only received one or two that they sold to their employees to scalp on ebay. _________________

Um... no, if you're referring to Gamestop they received NONE of the SF4 TE sticks that weren't pre-orders. And they cut off pre-orders a month before the release due to high demand. It was a massive discussion topic in the fighting game community (e.g. shoryuken.com) for a loooong time prior to release, and it was made abundantly clear that waiting around would likely mean no stick for you. Which is pretty much what happened.
As for the lower grade SF4 sticks, I've seen a few restocks since February. Fry's, one Gamestop. |
I pre ordered at 2 gamestops and an amazon. This was all done in Nov. Never received anything whether it is a confirmation or cancellation notice. The gamestops only received a couple a piece which of course meant that by the time I arrived they were already gone. I work late hours. Checked out a gamecrazy near me, but they only received 1 of the TE editions.
I am desperate for a fancy joystick, but not enough to pay ebay scalper prices. If there was an alternative I would love to be pointed in the right direction. Not even an HRAP in sight which I would rather have! I was unemployed when those initially reached the market. _________________

I feel like such a chump for selling the CvS2 fan disc back when CvS2 came out on Xbox. Still got a US launch DC that hasn't had an problems. Sure it sounds loud, but every other system I have is just as loud, too.
I didn't even get that much for it on ebay. Only fetched like $30 and I know I will never ever find it again. Prolly have to bootleg it, but I don't really want to do that.
It really isn't a big deal getting saves again though. Nothing a trip to Gamefaqs can't fix. _________________

MvC2 will be a fun for a few weeks as everyone who only played through youtube gets a crack at it.
After a month everyone will settle on the top 5 crews. Though I wonder just how well some people will pull of Magneto and Sentinel's (unfly) tight combos. Prolly just be mashing the assist button.
Speaking of Tatsunoko vs Capcom was on sale at Play-Asia for $40! That there is a jim dandy price! Now I actually have to buy a couple sticks for the Wii :( _________________

Screw the previewer for saying the modern cartoon stinks. I actually like it more than the 80s series, at least these are a little more faithful (i.e. darker) to the comics. I've only seen like 4 seasons of it though. Seeing how Baxter was always missing part of his body every few episodes until he was a head struck me as particularly intense for what is aimed at kids.
Four player online arcade would be nice though. I will be Raphael, forever. Even in the first NES game, just had him use boomerangs to be useful. _________________

That's a good piece. It probably is why I dislike it, but I keep playing it as it has the biggest "scene" going on at the moment. Most contenders happily jump back all day and I will still chase them out of frusturation. _________________

Oh wow!. I liked it when I played it on the arcade. I wonder if any animal rights groups will make a stink as I hogtie Rhinos and reel them in. Such a delightful mash of Marine Fishing and Crazy Taxi! I remember hearing that this would get ported to the DC so so long ago...
I was hoping that after Sega's experiments in porting VOOT and Outrun 2 that they will now start trying to get more of their arcade games ported over to these pretty powerful modern consoles.
Can I start dreaming of playing Planet Harriers again? _________________

so isn't that par for the course in "games journalism"?
replace "rpg fans" with "sports fans" for the mainstream american rags. Never seen a sports title receive less than a glowing review.
american reviewers also don't play games that are outside the particular reviewer's comfort zone. those get a more "real" score, like this Kizuna thing. it's all par for the course here. a chance to look at pretty pictures and a big number at the bottom. _________________

you know they will most likely be going off the PAL version which has all sorts of fixes. the excuse will be of course to avoid the elevator glitch which supposedly plagued the original release.
i like being able to get the space jump ASAP.

would there be a way to find out which edition is what? looking at a disc number, cover art, any other tell-tale signs?
the only game nintendo games i tend to noticed these things in are ones where i "break" the systems for my benefit. metroid prime and smash bros being the best examples of multiple retial versions. things i can do at home (like a scan dash) being impossible on a friend's copy.
i've only ever noticed that nintendo likes to do this sort of patching, i wonder if any other companies have patched games in this manner...? _________________
