Snatcher has about as much gameplay as a MGS4 mission briefing; It is blatantly a take on Blade Runner.
I like it. :) |

I never realized until today, after seeing the frame data and joystick input display options in Virtua Fighter 5's exhibition mode, that they are all actually recorded matches. Are these taken from the arcade? That's pretty awesome.
JoJo's Bizaare Adventure on the PSX has a great story mode. I am currently watching my friends play Gradius with Stands. |

I played two levels of the Duke 3D XBLA port last night. I never liked Duke 3D that much when it was new, but I dug the CON hacking and the BUILD editor's instant-preview thing made mocking up floor-plans of my house for my friends to DM in much more convenient than DOOM's editing tools of the day. Anyway, take the modding out of Duke 3D and it's a collection of boring weapons, boring enemies, and boring, if somewhat creative, level design.

Gonna have to disagree with this. Duke 3D vanilla single-player is a wonderful bullet-hell-shmup equivalent of the original Doom, and the firefights feel a lot more like actually fighting and not just circle-strafing while chipping away at enemies' health. And how can you not love the Pig Cops and Shrink Rays. You can tell they just had a hell of a lot of fun making that game. |

| Playing GTA San Andreas on the PC has been somewhat revelatory to me because I've never really gotten into a GTA game before but the sense of bliss associated with seemingly-endless freedom is pure here, and especially after playing IV it's cool how driving is fun, moving your character isn't a chore, the world is actually interesting to be in, and the missions tend to be mildly affable rather than torture. |

Gotta say, the Duke3D XBLA port's "rewind" feature is really cool. It's not just a Prince of Persia style rewind for a few seconds and retry sort of thing, you can go through the entire level like you were watching a video, and at any point press play to start from that point.
I always considered myself more of a Doom guy, but I don't think I realized how much I played Duke back then. It has really well designed hidden secrets in the levels, the action is pretty straightforwardly intense, and it's just a fun little game. |

No, I feel quite the opposite in fact. (Especially in regards to driving - GTA4's heavy, realistic cars are far more fun that San Andreas' ice-skating vehicles, a problem that's plagued every 3D entry in the series until 4.) _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

played some kirby super star ultra ds or whatever. i don't really want to talk about the changes except that the fmvs are pretty stupid. it's way, way easier than i remember, but that's probably just me being a decade older.
this game is/was fucking generous. no pop-up tutorial every time you get a new ability, no stringing them along with little variation a la kirby 64, not a lot of "hey! use this here!" just tons of different forms all over the place, many of which play really differently from the others or have a surprising number of moves - you could go through a whole game with fighter or suplex or ninja and not get sick of it.
i forgot about the rpg section in great cave offensive, too. "you gained 285 exp! not that it matters. courage went up by 4! puffiness went up by 1! eye shine went up by 5!" |

It's saved by the coop, but the single player experience definitely left something to be desired for me. It is gorgeous though. Driving has a learning curve that I still haven't mastered, but I've always sucked at driving games. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

I'm catching up!
It's quite the experience, and one of the most aurally blissful, to be playing with the Wiimote in one hand with all the buttons that one needs, for the first time this game called EarthBound. _________________

finished prince of persia: sands of time. sorry cuba libre i still hate your game dude. :\ kind of makes me want to write something about it just to get it off my chest.
got to the last boss of elemental master. in years of owning the game i never did beat the boss of stage 6, who's invulnerable to whatever you can throw at her. i always assumed i was missing some obvious weak spot somewhere, but somehow i never noticed that at that point in the story your standard weapon suddenly grows a charge-up function that obliterates the shit out of everything. triumph of finally putting her down was a little dimmed by reaching the final stage to find a lame boss rush though.
i got a wonderswan a little while ago! rhyme rider kerorikan is fucking absurdly hard. |

beat The Warriors last night... short game. probably the first Rockstar game i've finished... not that i beat many games
played Shinobi on the PS2 this morning... woo Ninja Dogs! its interesting how 'pure' it is - no buying abilities, no RPG crap. just featureless rooms, slashing, and wall-jumping
probably going to play Shadow of the Colossus later _________________ Someday somethings coming

played like 7 hours of Gungrave: Overdose yesterday. this thing is pure gaming. the plot is silly, the characters are over the top and awesome, and after playing it my hands couldn't stop shaking... but man its awesome. more games like this _________________ Someday somethings coming

Chapter 3
In her ship's personal quarters, Samus emerged from her battle-scarred Chozo armor dripping with sweat. But that wasn't the only way that combat made her wet... |

| been playing castlevania 3 for a few days now. hard mode is really....really hard. i'm on the ghost ship right now, getting my ass kicked. i played through the game the first time with the 'help me' extra life code, and the second time straight up killa g style, with no codes. i love grant, i've tryed playing with sypha, she's really cool, and alucard, meh...neither of them really stuck...grants quick with the knife (sypha's staff is also quick, to wit...and she looks cool, has some devastating spells. grant though, grant) and is a wall climbing pirate. if i had money to burn, i'd buy a famicom and a copy of this game, but as it is i'll just begrudgingly slog through hard mode with my gimped grant and gimped music/graphics and tell myself it's all the better for being made inferior and harder. love this game. |

i'm about 8 hours into shin megami tensei nocturne. i was really, really underwhelmed by the beginning (everything after the name choosing and before the apocalypse), which in retrospect seems like a flimsy dashed-off excuse to get into the real game, and even after that the story so far is not as good as i was led to believe, with a lot of unnecessary silliness that may be the fault of the translation. but i love bargaining with and recruiting demons in battle, i love how fast the battle system is and the level of customization possible. i also think the look of this game will age incredibly well; you can tell it's the same engine that persona 3 later used, but it's got a lot more style in the terrain and more inventive effects. |

| Into Rockman ZX. Good little game overall, but I dislike the new rating system where you have to kill bosses without hitting their weak spot to earn a plushie — it’s annoying and not a measure of real ability. I miss Rockman Z’s insane score requirements; they really made me play Rockman with an attention to detail I never did. |

been playing lots of Crackdown & Too Human, co-op. For some inexplicable reason my save in Crackdown became corrupted, so I had to delete my old 4 star agent.. I've rebuilt him fairly quickly, except for his shooting skill, which has remained at 3* thanks to my overzealous rocket use.
Too Human is still frickin' awesome, despite its buggy nature.. Its such a pity that the majority of reviews are negative, though I feel that its mainly down to the reviewers not spending enough time with the game (check out any review footage....they never do any combos and rarely have characters above level 10 - thats less than an hour's playing!).
About to restart Castlevania Circle of the Moon on le GB Micro. |

Sim City Creator DS, aka Sim City DS 2. This is an attempt to make Sim City into a videogame, with varying success. It feels rushed-on at times; for example, it has cartoon characters to advise you but the “sims” are abstract non-cartoon blue anthropomorphic figures.
Drawing your city with the stylus is somehow more pleasurable than using a mouse. Unfortunately the controls are not very well thought-of and it’s easy to do things you don’t want to.
Gamewise it’s still Sim City, as addicting and perplexing as ever. I had to ask in a forum to learn why the hell the sims were leaving my city when every single in-game indicator was perfect (turns out from the second age onwards you’re not supposed to place agricultural regions next to residential zones, a detail the in-game advisers never mention). I hated that, but on second though I kind of dig this opacity — it builds the lore sharing aspect of videogames tim108 was talking about, something difficult to do in these days of internets. |

After owning Guitar Hero 2 for about a year, and even beating it on Expert finally a few weeks ago...I was finally able to get the lag calibration set about as good as I think I'll ever get it, and the game is actually fun now (relatively speaking, since the Xplorer isn't really fun to play with).
The lag calibration option is terrible, btw. It's auto based on strumming to a click sound and a visual indicator, and most of the time is doesn't even set any time lag difference. Weeks ago I got it at 25-ish and thought that was as good as I could get it. Now it's at 15-ish.
So last night I 5starred all the standard songs on hard.
Did that instead of practicing on my real guitar with fresh strings. :( _________________

I've had one close to seven years, and long story short, and have been in very brief periods where i'm actually trying to learn and practice. I just changed my strings for the first time, and they weren't even broken or anything. I just figured I probably should change it. But even though I didn't play it often, I'm still surprised they never snapped or anything considering I've let plenty of people borrow my guitar for performances, not to mention my own wear and tear (even if not often).
maybe tonight! instead of more guitar hero 2... (and my essay?) _________________

I don't particularly like the Guitar Hero games, but I do like that the games continue to incise guitarists, or people who consider themselves to be such. Much like passing gas, this never seems to cease amusing me. _________________

yeah its pretty silly but to some people the guitar is like a sacred object. i want more music games that are like Gitaroo Man or the Rocketbilly bit of Gungrave, where the guitar is an object of power... not just a Simon Says game
i'm probably saying that 'cause i don't play guitar tho _________________ Someday somethings coming
