The original Marathon has a little too much running around mazes pushing buttons for no reason, THIS I DO NOT DENY. Though really, I still think most of the levels are pretty straightforward.
Marathon Infinity has an epic button pushing level. EPIC. |

| Which level are you on? In most of the cases, you don't actually have to wade thorugh the underwater sections unless you want to, and you can skip right past them. |

the worst part is having to punch those green monsters to death, very slowly, because guns don't work underwater.
also Tycho isn't as fun to be bossed around by as Durandal was :[ |
You don't need to dive around in that level too much, actually. You just need to find this one large pool, with cracks in the walls... you'll see the AI construct in there. You just need to see it (you can't get in that room), then head back to a terminal and Tycho will teleport you oudda there.
Tycho is a bit of an asshole, yes. I made him angry and he teleported me into space :(
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure you replenish your oxygen before leaving the level, to save yourself getting brutally fucked a couple levels later.
Also, get ready to have your mind fucked! In a pleasent way! |

Beat Doom 3 and expansion (which I've spoken of before), then Return to Castle Wolfenstein - an utterly mediocre game if I've ever seen one - and now I've started in on Quake 2. FRANTIC ACTION FEELING in drab brown corridors. This game started a (non)revolution. |
RtCW sits on the fine line between being a poor game and being a game that's noteworthy in anyway. Utterly medicore, but I still had a fun time with it. I was most dissapointed that they played it straight... it feels more like an Indiana Jones game than a Wolfenstein game. Where's the zombies with frickin' guns in their chests? Where's frickin' mechahiter?
Anyway, the main draw of the game was the multiplayer which is still excellent to this day. The beach level is one of the finest levels ever crafted.
I never really liked Quake 2. It always felt so bland (despite featuring a very solid engine). The N64 version had more atmosphere and feeling.
What did you think of the Doom 3 expansion? |

| Melbourne House is one of Australia's oldest and biggest studios. They've put out tonnes of great stuff! A fair bit of crap too. They're known as Krome Studios these days, and haven't done anything too exciting since the name change. |

It's not just a name change, actually, the studio was gonna die so it was bought (and saved) by Krome. |
Yeah, I thought it was the case. The whole history is rather messy. They were originally known as BEAM, too. I have this big history article on them somewhere... it was written in the mid 90's though. |

I didn't find Killer 7 scary at all. I WISH that it was Lynchian scary. I didn't really find RE4 scary at all too, apart from a few moments here and there... it was definitely more action than horror.
I think the scariest parts were early in the game before you're decked out with weapons and when you bump into those slow moving dudes with a specific point you have to hit to kill them. |

| So hey, am I the only one who doesn't like Bangai-Oh Spirites? My main problem is the trial and error. I play a level and it's like "oh i'm obviously supposed to use this weapon" so I try again with the new weapon and finish it in two seconds, and then I repeat this process until I realise it's dumb and decide to play something else. |

| the dungeons aren't that random. there are only a certain number of layouts for each level, and though there are randomised, the some ones will crop up here and there. the enemy and item selection is randomised (though only certain enemies will appear in certain areas etc). it's also a very very fair rl. once you figure out how everything works, you'll become much better at getting out of tight spots. its a game you can actually get better at. plus you can grind weapons if you continue to suck. |

Legend Returns is indeed the best version of Lode Runner. It is amazing.
For reasons I forget, Hudson owned the rights to the console versions of Lode Runner (or something like that, I forget the details), so they made all them. As much as I love Hudson, their versions of the games are pretty bad, namely thanks to the screen scrolling, plus the cartoony style wasn't as cool as KILLER DEATH MONKS seen in the western interpretations (as a side note, Bomberman and Lode Runner are connected in the Japanese versions... "The NES version, developed by Hudson Soft, marked the first appearance of Bombermen as the opposing robots. The end screen to Bomberman for the NES notes that the original White Bomberman has turned human and hints at his appearance in another game, with the Lode Runner behind him. In the Japanese version, the reference is more direct: 'Congratulations - Bomber Man becomes Runner - See you again in Lode Runner.'"). They did do a few interesting things with the game though, namely Battle Lode Runner, a multilayer version of the game that's pretty fun, and their 3D attempt (Lode Runner Cubed) is far better than the 3D attempts made by western studios.
So yeah, the western versions of the game are far better. Cooler aesthetic and the majority are good ol' single screen. I played the first on an old Mac years and years ago. It was my Dad's favourite game. I even liked Lode Runner 2, despite the awkwardness the isometric perspective presented. I just loved how trippy it looked. The 3D sequel for the N64 was a bit disappointing unfortunately. Man, now you got me talking, THERE ARE LIKE THREE MILLION VERSIONS OF THIS GAME, PLUS VARIOUS CLONES |

You are a regular ninja who sneaks about and kills emperors with feline companions. I like ninja cats Was something expected to be different?
A kinda play it as pacman with ninjas and revel in its ridiculousness of ninjas that can't swim. I also enjoy going to the rooftops and the enemies forget I exist almost immediately.
Did you ever play the one on PS1? Does this one change things and give you insta-fail if you get spotted now. it's been on my list for a bit. |
I never played the PS1, though I always wanted to.
This Wii game is more of a puzzle game than it is a stealth game. Every level is excessively linear, with only one clear way around enemies, and you can't jump up on rooftops to get away. You're just wandering down corridor-like areas. If you get busted and have your sword ready a little mini game opens up so you can try to counter them but I haven't been able to get it to work well yet. If you fail or had another item ready, you just go SHIT and disappear before returning to an earlier checkpoint. I find the controls a little too stiff, too, which isn't helping matters at all. I'm really not enjoying it. |

| If any of you liked Myst: Uru, you would probably like Penumbra: Requiem. I'm really enjoying it so far. Wish there were more of these kind of puzzles in the previous two games, but I can see they might be out of place. |

| The second game drops combat, it's just stealth and running away. I enjoyed it much more than the first (thanks to the lack of crappy combat). I compared the two games in the news thread. |

I played a Sly game once, the first level was set in Paris and it was totally awesome. The rest of the game was pretty fun too, but nothing matched the awesomeness of Paris. All of the games elements worked the best there. It was awesome jumping around rooftops, the guards below me completely oblivious to my presences.
ROCKET ROBOT ON WHEELS is also a pretty rad game. It was their first game. It used PHYSICS and stuff, I remember it being a big deal when it came out and if you pushed something down a hill IT WOULD ROLL DOWN IT REALISTICALLY. Plus you could design your own fucking rollercoaster.
Actually, Rocket was at its best on the first level too. Maybe it's a habit of theirs. I want to play inFamous but I don't have a PS3 :( |

Hey, my 360 has mysteriously started working again!
So, I finally finished Modern Warfare. It was alright.
Then I downloaded bunch of Live Arcade games. Dorito Dash was surprisingly fun, even if it was veyr short lived. Unfortunately, no one seems to play multiplayer so I can't get the last achievement :(
I never played Twisted Metal, so I tried Vigilate 8, the game that upset so many fans of the excellent Interstate 76. Music a bit disappointing. Things sure blow up real good! My main gripe is with how the cars handle though. Mainly, I need a handbrake. It's just not as fun to drive around the arenas as it should be. Plus I can't tell what any of the weapons are when they're o nthe ground. PASS.
Space Invaders Extreme or whatevs is pretty much the DS game but on a decent screen with a decent sound system and with pimpin' Minter visuals in the background, so it gets a grade A in my book. It still takes too long for the game to get hard, but I realise it's more about score and combos and shit now.
Galaga Legions seems like a pretty awesome arcade game! It's awesome how so many arcade games that actually do something interesting appear on XBLA. It's about time, after years of shitty sequels that just throw the same crap at you again and again.
Lode Runner is fucking brilliant. BRILL'. Looks great, sounds great, plays great, lots of different modes, I love how each scene feels alive... the only disappointing thing I've found is that the monks don't make their creppy noises anymore. Oh, and the sweet death animation is gone now, but I can understand them removing that to keep the game G rated.
I wonder how long before the machine explodes again. Before the warranty expires, I hope. What other games have I missed? |

Also, TLJ is a straight adventure game without any of that weak "combat" "action" nonsense in Dreamfall. Also it has an ending (unlike Dreamfall). |
I prefer Dreamfall's shitty action to TLJ's shitty generic puzzles, to be honest. |

Tell me more!
I played it awhile ago but it crashed all the time in one of the levels so I couldn't finish it. The only things I remember it doing is SWEET CUTSCENES, forces you to reload your own weapon and the aim of each level is to kill everyone then fight a boss that shows up, which I found pretty interesting. I made some of the levels pretty open.
You ever play fistful of doom, cuba? It's very outlawish.
