Road Avenger for Sega CD. It's a Dragon's Lair type game.

This is a lot of fun, were any of the other games like this fun?
Which should I play next, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, some less known sega cd game?

Stay away from the Don Bluth games, they're slower paced.

Instead: TIME GAL! It's from the same company who did Road Avenger.

Cliff hanger/Lupin/Castle of Cagliostro was probably my favorite.

Thanks, I'll check out Time Gal next.
Was that Lupin game arcade only?

I got to Airman with a fire flower. I still lost. :(
That Airman, he is one tough man to beat, if you don't cheat.

God I love this hack.

Snatcher has about as much gameplay as a MGS4 mission briefing; It is blatantly a take on Blade Runner.
I like it. :)

Soldier of Fortune Payback

Umm, I shot down the Moor's helicopter. Guys this isn't a great game, but other games could learn a thing or two here. Why don't more games have Soldier of Fortune style dismemberment? Also the sprinting is nicely implemented. The Moor's helicopter was a good boss fight.
Most sections of the game seems pretty dull though.

Probably because it is 1. ridiculous and 2. unnecessary

The game is ridiculous in many ways, but depicting violence violently is one thing that's sensible.

With Snatcher I liked the music, the graphics, the Kojima-ism.

A lot of adventure games have humorously inappropriate optional dialogue.
Did you have to ask her to see the heart-shaped birthmark or was it optional? I'm actually asking you, I can't remember.

I like Blade Runner a lot, so that's a factor too.

Rambo (arcade)

Kinda dull. The cut-scenes are bits of Rambo III. It's a light gun shooter, you shoot dudes. The dudes mostly stay pretty still.
Main trick seems to be not to hold the trigger, use short bursts.

There's a little gauge and when it fills you can be invincible for a short time.

It says fast or quick or something if you shoot them right as they show up.

i didn't play far though, maybe it gets better.

Future Cop LAPD
I come back to this from time to time. It's sort of the spiritual successor to to the Jungle/Desert Strike games. Same Prospective, but an odd transforming close to the ground vehicle replaces the helicopter.
The campaign mode isn't all that good, but the secondary mode, called precinct assault is ridiculously addictive.
In the Single Player mode of Precinct Assault the designers gave the AI bot different vehicles from the player, he gets vehicles that can fly, and his voice actors has lines based on the old arcade game Sinister.
Thankfully Precinct Assault is available right away, without any unlocking.

Wade Hixton's Counter Punch
I don't have a wii, but that new punchout trailer got me excited, so I've been playing this, and Mike Tyson's punchout. Graphics are really strong, and I like the game better then Super Punchout, but Mike Tyson's Punchout is still my favorite so far.

Mike Tyson's Punch-out!!
Hell, it's practically an official rom hack, some executive went to a Tyson fight and told the punchout team to put Tyson in the game for the american release. The cart art is great too, it was a rare opportunity that they got to use a photograph instead of a drawing or painting.

Finished cave story, normal ending.

The first ending was actually very cool for a bad ending, I got it a few days ago, then picked the game up again and got to the normal ending.

The boss gauntlet at the end was very different from the game as a whole. Flying around with the machine gun and booster 0.8 was a lot of fun. The entire games plot was enjoyable, and I had a good time being very late to this party.

[p.s: not planning to try for the extra ending any time soon]

Resident Evil 5, I find the campaign mode is a huge improvement over the one in RE4, it actually feels like a Resident Evil again. The sack beat-down scene at the beginning was great.
Still, I want it to be over so I can play Mercenaries.

Gears 2 campaign is just a fucking engine demo Epic made in the hopes that even more developers will license the engine.

Wing Commander Secret Ops
Secret Ops is a stand alone game, but it was more or less the mission pack for Wing Commander Prophecy.

Anyways, I just found a mod that makes me like this game more then I used to. It replaces all the music with the music from Wing Commander IV. This makes a huge difference in the feel of the game. I had no idea that music played such a deciding factor in how much I like a game.
[If anyone else still plays Wing Commander games, you can download the mod here]

Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe (freeware)
This game is fast becoming one of my favorite games.

I was stuck on a mission and I finally passed it. The mission tasks you to steal an enemy boat. The difficulty is if you alert the Germans, a random enemy soldier will take off in the boat you are trying to steal.

I originally tried to go solo. I'd get civilian clothes from a clothes line, run past all the Germans, and then they'd blow up the boat when I tried to steal it. Ok, that didn't work so I tried bringing a team of four. When cover is blown, they take out their guns and start firing, so now I've got cover fire when I try to steal the boat.
Not good enough, the Germans still blow up the boat. There are just too many squads in range of the boat.

Several attempts later, I learn the German soldiers don't notice explosive charges until they detonate. So I set up an explosive charge next to the furthest squad in range of the boat, and set the timer for the max 1:30. Then I run to the boat quickly setting a charge near each enemy squad along the way, synchronizing the charges as best I can. Then getting all my squad on the boat, just as the charges start to explode. Cover is blown, the remaining Germans get in a firefight with my team while I bring the boat away from the harbor.

Mission Success.

I love it when a plan comes together.

P.S: One casualty.

After several attempts I got passed the 5th Air Fortress, haven't tried the 6th yet.

Later I might try to finish the game.

more Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe

Holy shit, this game gets even better. After a pretty fun mission where I mostly lobbed grenades at trenched enemies, so I could use their trenches to avoid a mine field, the game sets up a mission where you start off with a headstart on 40 nazi soldiers chasing you to an airstrip. My team of four ran for the hanger, where my ai buddy with the machinegun watched the back door while the other two ai joined me in sniping off the oncoming soldiers as fast as we could. Sniping the driver of a motorcycle was awesome.
We held the line and escaped in the allied plane once it showed up. 35 enemies dead, 1 of my team dead. Not sure where the other 5 Germans went, they were probably trying to flank around behind the hanger as my team ran for the plane.

The game had been mostly focused on outdoor environments, I assumed it was due to engine requirements. The third campaign starts off with a mission where you need to blow up some archive rooms in a rather elaborate mansion, taking emphasis away from sniper rifles and putting it toward machineguns for a nice change of pace.

I've just now noticed that the pool of recruits seems to be carried over into each campaign, making me a little worried I'll have some pretty shitty guys for the last missions. Now I'm even more concerned about casualty count then I was due to only getting 8 guys per campaign.

P.S: You can reattempt any prior mission any time to attempt to get dudes back for future campaigns, if you have to.

luvcraft, did you try this yet? it can be daunting at first, if you have any questions send them my way.
Quick tips:
-move the mouse while holding z to zoom sniper rifles.
-If you see something you want but your character is already carrying too much, you can hold enter to drop equipment.
-The second mission, pretty much only seems to work if you bring at least one guy up through the first ladder, otherwise the Germans get wise and have guards at the top of all the sewer grates.

I really expected to like Arkham Asylum, it starts strong. The designers made some smart choices. Good engine, good character designs, but it starts to go downhill rather quickly. The Unreal Engine graphics and the character design choices are nullified, because you'll spend most of your time in Detective Mode (x-ray vision) where all the colors are fucked up and everyone is a skeleton. Somehow even with with a largely linear level design and Detective mode basically painting important things with words or symbols saying THIS IS IMPORTANT you'll still manage to get lost. You can turn Detective mode off, but this means pixel hunting and being even more lost.

Hidden & Dangerous
I'm about half-way through now I think.

I'm at a mission that starts with your guys in German uniforms in a German complex, but goes to shit because your guys can't pass through a checkpoint. The goal being to steal one of their armored cars and drive away. I took out all the German gun tower guys (which is pretty tricky) before the game sets up an ambush, and I had to machinegun my way out of being surrounded, at this point I only had one of my four guys left, but I reached the armored car. I ran over some German soldiers with it and drove out of the base. I was driving along the road feeling pretty accomplished and expecting the mission successful screen to pop up any second, when I came to a bridge, just as I thought, 'is that a tank on that bridge' the tank fired and the mission failure screen popped up.

This game is awesome.

Playing single-player Battlezone II
Battlezone II was the first game Pandemic Studios released.

In short, it's not as good as Battlezone (1998), but I am enjoying it.
It's a good game, it just has a really hard act to follow.

It's slightly less sim-y than WC3 or X-Wing, sort of occupying a space between those and the later Colony Wars. There's also much less exploration and branching when it comes to the story conversations. The whole game just seems a little fatigued, like it's ready to get it over with already.

Have you played Wing Commander IV? It was one of the better ones.

No. I played a ton of 3 back in the day, and 1 and 2 before that but don't really remember them. I also played a lot of Armada but that's kind of a different thing altogether. I guess I could look up 4, but trying to get it to work in Vista scares me. Even Prophecy needed a whole bunch of tweaking.

I'm near the end of it actually. The missions have gotten cooler but it's still a kind of lame last gasp. I really hate flying bombers and attacking capital ships in these games.

One of the nice things about it was you could use light fighters to take out cap-ships if you wanted to. The Banshee (similar to WC3's Arrow) is what I usually used for missions against capships, you can bind your missiles together and fire four in one shot. If you use dumbfires you don't even need to lock on, just afterburner toward the target blow it up right away then pick off the fighters after.

It was very similar to WC3 (same engine) but WCIV made individual enemy fighters a much greater threat. Enemies fly the same ships you do, or often better ships.

The story was done pretty well, lots of interesting branching. A bit tricky to not get the 'you're the bad guy now' ending, which was sort of an early stab at moral choice in videogames, and one of the few that doesn't end up horribly botched.

P.S: no idea how vista friendly or unfriendly it is.
