I just beat and thoroughly enjoyed Actraiser. Maybe I should finally finish Soul Blazer now. _________________

They have that cabinet down at my local comic book store. You can play as much as you want for free.
When I was a kid my grandfather would give my cousin and I a ton of money to play that at the lodge our family reunion was at. _________________

I used to have a long sleeved shirt that had zippers around the top of the sleeves so you could make it into a short sleeved shirt. When I was alone I would mostly unzip it but leave a little bit still zipped and pretend I was Vyse from Skies of Arcadia. _________________

I finished this a couple weeks ago. I liked it a lot, but I'm a huge comic book guy, so there you go.
It strikes me that this game and Smash Bros. are eerily similar. Best enjoyed with friends and mostly about the fan service. Neither of which is a bad thing per se...you just have to realize where each games strength lies. |
It makes me wish I had a roommate to play it with.
I went out and bought X-men Legends 1 (x-box) and 2 (gamecube). Apparently Legends doesn't work on the 360 and legends 2 takes up half a gamecube memory card. Sigh. _________________

yeah i bought it for the fanservice and i dunno... it seems hampered by the RPG elements and the lack of thought paid to each character. like Mr Fantastic's hidden mission is him fighting Arcade? WTF?
i'm glad that Spider-Man and Hulk have great games of their own
just bought Armored Core: Last Raven for cheap. it was that or AC 3. i'm a bit overwhelmed. i'm kinda playing it like Virtual ON and thats not working. any basic tips? |
Speaking of, I just rented Spider-Man Web of Shadows for the Wii. Three things I immediately loved: the ability to fight while clinging to walls, the ability to do the classic Spider-Man sitting on a wall thing he does and most of all I love how they give you the Ben Reilly costume almost immediately. _________________

Finished Tales of the Abyss and was quite happy with it. Game has about 10 hours of real fat in the middle, but both its opening and ending sequences are splendid. Cutting down the cast to six playable characters made things pretty cozy.
Just started up Digital Devil Saga, which is one creepy, sexy game. Very intriguing stuff with an interesting take on the classic RPG battle system. Been a while since I played an RPG with actual random battles, so that's a little weird.
Playing DDS is pointing out ot me just how awful some of Abyss's technical issues were, though. Lordy.
The other game occupying my time is Princess Debut, which is simple, but charming and fun, and it's satisfying my craving for social simulation games. Perfect game to play for 15 minutes before bed. |
They need to rerelease Abyss on the 360. I would buy it and play it again so hard. _________________

You gonna download it or something? Because that game is apparently rare as hell and probably quite expensive. Like, amazon recently had an exclusive printing of 1,000 copies or something and they sold out in a pinch.
I saw it used 2.5 years ago at a game store in the Biloxi mall for like $50, regret not buying it on principle. |

The first Oddworld PSX game is down at the nearby retro game store for a about 5 dollars. Is it worth it? I've never really looked into the series before, but that game store is very limited in its Playstation selection so I'm interested in anything that might be good. _________________

I'm playing the AGDInteractive remake of Quest for Glory 2, and I must say, when you really get into the combat and are fighting 5 guys at once, this game just might have the best representation of sword fighting in any game. Like, I'll have a dude in front of me and one on either side. I'll use my shield to block the guy on my left, parry a thrust from the guy on the right then turn it into a slash against the guy in front, kick the guy on my leftblock and counterattack the guy in front and then kick the guy on the right, all in the space of about 2 seconds. It's fantastic. _________________

any chance you could record a video of this, put it up on youtube maybe? |
I'm not really sure how to record a vga game on my computer besides setting up my crappy camcorder over my shoulder and hoping for the best. Also, I checked on youtube and there really aren't any good videos of the combat. _________________

Played some Super Mario World with my girlfriend tonight after we played our way through SMB 1 the other night (on an Allstars cart). It's proving to be a really enjoyable experience, I've never really played SMW with a second player before. The great thing is we can both play exactly how we want to: My girlfriend is a completionist, she always wants to find the secret exits and do all the secret levels, and I'm happy to leave her to it. Meanwhile I speed toward each castle so I can personally kick each koopa kid in the skull. It's not a bad way to go through the game, actually.
As an aside, I'm playing through Penumbra and so far it is really making me want to play Realms of the Haunting again. |
That's kind of how me and my Japanese friend played it when we played through it. I went side questing and he plowed through the main missions. _________________

I finished Quest for Glory 2 and moved on to 3 yesterday. Actually playing 2's remake was really fun, but there was an enormous amount of down time in the game where you would have to wait around several long in game days before you could do anything. Alternatively, days pass by lightning fast in QfG 3, but your character moves around super slowly and the battles are horrible.
I wish I was playing an Age of Mythologies 2 or even just a further expansion of the original. _________________

Going through the underlings to line up power hits on the bosses is immensely satisfying. I just beat 4-b and I haven't come across anything yet that was anything near as frustratingly difficult as the boss of 1-b was. _________________

How do you deal with the Ninja Dogs in stage 3? I pretty much gave up right there.
Been playing this too. |
I hated those guys. Basically I just kept trying to side dash until I would get behind it instead of running into its sword. If they were standing in directions that made it impossible to attack one from behind because of another standing there with its sword covering it, I would just back off and dash around until they regrouped. _________________

I finished Devil May Cry 2 earlier. I thought it was mediocre all around and failed to do anything interesting with the concepts of the first game.
After I finished that I started Onimusha 2, and so far, I'm thinking this is the complete opposite. Playing this game for an hour and a half makes me think of the first as a tech demo that they ran with and expanded to make this groovy sequel. I'm kind of new to the whole Onimusha series. What's the official Capcom stance on continuing the series on the current gen consoles? Has there been any word on it? _________________

| Yeah the gift/friendship system was a little obtuse, but I figure they through it in to answer any complaints of shortness/ lack of much replay value from the first one. I found a guide on gamefaqs that showed who liked what gift, but not how to get them all, and since I was coming in fresh without any idea of how the story would progress I figured I'd just try to find everything I can and giving everything to whoever likes it and see who I end up with. I got Oyu so I saw a lot of her story and some scenes with Kotaro, but basically nothing with Magoichi and Ekei. If/when I eventually come back to it I'll try to dote on Magoichi to see that side of the story. |

I just started playing 3. Is it just me or does everything seem smaller and lighter. I really liked the weightyness and clunkyness of the first two, but that seems to be gone. I also got the Onimusha artbook today. It's kind of cool.
Also, I bought Perfect Dark for 25 cents at a Hollywood Video. The cashier woman was flabbergasted that I had still had a Nintendo 64. |

| I can't get into Onimusha 3 nearly as easily as I did with 1 and 2. I think it's because you alternate so quickly between the two characters. As soon as I'm starting to get into one of them, I come to the end of the very short "level" and am made to play with the other character. |

| For the last week and a half I've had an old friend staying with me. We thought we were going to be more permanent roommates but he had to leave today. For the last few days, we've been honing our Contra 3 the Alien Wars (Virtual Console) skills. Today, the last thing we did together before he had to leave, was finally beat it. Probably our biggest and longest running sticking point was the level 5 boss. I can't help but think if I wasn't using an old busted up Mad Catz Gamecube controller I would have performed slightly better. Each and every time we played that game was an adrenaline rush. |

Today, I finally came to the end of the journey that started in the small game room of the local Pizza Inn about 18 years ago. Today, I finally beat the original Castlevania. I've gotten to Dracula before, but this was the first time I successfully sent this iteration back to hell. _________________

I love stories like these. Congratulations. |
Thanks. It's just a shame it took me this long. I remember one time several years ago I was at some church youth group game night. Everybody else brought their x-boxes to play Halo. I brought a Dreamcast with MvC2 and an NES. I sat on one side of the room playing Castlevania while everybody else was playing Halo on the other side. People would occasionally come over to check up on me. I played against Dracula for like an hour or so before giving up. That was probably my last serious attempt at winning that wasn't impeded by a glitched out NES. _________________
