I went the cheap route and bombed him with holy water. _________________

It kind of changes the boss of the level to "get through all three stages without dieing, without accidentally getting any other weapons, and with finding all of the double and triple power ups," because the holy water only appears at the beginning of the level. Thankfully, Holy water is super effective against axe knights and fairly effective against flea men.

congrats renfrew, i could never beat dracula properly because of his random teleports. i'd fuck up and run right into him sooner or later and that's a whole lot of health lost.
i eventually started hammering the pause button to slow everything down so i could see where he was going to show up. it felt cheap but i can't say i care. |
Thanks! It did this weird thing I had never noticed before where If I hit Dracula at around the same time he hit me, it would sometimes do the standard damage to me but also hit him for about 4 health. I don't know if it was glitching or if it was a critical hit or if we were doing a "cross counter." I don't think it happened the time I beat him though.
Those teleports mean business. One time, I got his first form down to two life points without getting hit at all, then he killed me before I could get him to his second form. I think the best thing to do is just keep moving. There's a particular timing that you can get where he starts teleporting in on you and you keep moving, then when you get to a certain distance you turn, jump, and hit. He should fire his fireballs at the spot you were at in the air and you will safely fall under him. However, there are incredibly large margins of error at every moment. _________________

Just beat Contra and Castlevania 2. I'm loving having a working NES again. _________________

I seriously wonder if anyone has actually beaten Simon's Quest without some sort of assistance or walkthrough.
I suppose it was intended to be one of those "communal challenges" like the original Tower of Druaga, though. |
I sure didn't. Even though I used a guide, I still got one of the bad endings. _________________

Yeah, I'm doing Aleph One. Co-op would be fun, but maybe later. I've only played for a few minutes and am still trying to get a handle on the controls. I'll send out a smoke signal when I get to a point where I could play with someone without dying of embarrassment (the only other FPS I've ever played on a computer is the Wheel of Time game, so yeah...). _________________

I started Shenmue yesterday, started it again, and will start it again today.
I'm really enjoying the game. It really draws me in. I don't get tired of playing it. When I actually get further along in the game I'll provide more detailed, updated opinions.
On my first attempt, I accidentally pressed the wrong button on the kitten event, played for a few days, and realized it was going to die, so I started over. On my second try, I played to near the end of the second day, and the game froze. I'm about to try again. _________________

As my first order of business in my attempt to reclaim my lost PS2 memory, I've been playing a level (two stages) of Shinobi each day whenever I can sneak it in. I haven't really played the game since last summer, but I guess my muscle memory is still there, because I'm rocking this game pretty hard. I've gotten several S-ranks on stages. I remember the first time I went through the game, it took me days to overcome Stage 6-a (the largely vertical factory-ish place). I just now beat it in two tries. Bosses that were serious challenges last year go down in one mighty swing of my sword. So here's what I'm going to have to figure out: was this game just a one trick pony, or has the real game, the score attack, only just started. I'm thinking it's the latter. In my original play though, I floundered around trying to scoop up the enemies before my tate expired, and was probably more like 50% successful. Now, I'm dashing here and there, casually slicing and dicing all that stands before me. I guess I became the super cool shinobi the game promised me I would be. I still wish I had some measure of control over Hotsuma as he plummets straight down. _________________
