Man, I could go for some 3S since that SF3S topic popped up. I'm so out of practice now though.
What is this 2df? Is it another alternative like GGPO and Kaillera?
It's been a bit over a year since I last played any fighting games... _________________

Samurai Shodown II for XBLA. I feared they'd use some sacrilegious old-new hybrid interface (hello Streets of Rage 2!!), but no, it's pretty authentic once you choose "Single Player". Multiplayer works pretty well too.
Plus, it allows for full button mapping, so you don't have to press medium + low to get high if you don't want to. Works for me; most of my recent Haohmaru experience comes from CvS2. |
This fills me with good cheer for when/if SNK releases KOF '98 UM on Live Arcade. _________________

I haven't played the NEW ENHANCED VERSION, but from what I remember, by the time you can do this, the spells they cast are usually too weak to be useful. And MP wasn't in high demand to begin with. |
You could always do this in the original version. Yeah, it was discovered by accident.
Certainly makes that Cure staff and the road up Paladin Mountain much easier! _________________

Wait what, how? I did not know this! |
You just go to Items in the Battle Menu.
Scroll up and a little submenu showing your weapon and shield appear.
Choose your wand.
Magic happens! It's really great for the first half of the game. I abuse this ability all the way up until I get to the underground and meet Golbez.
I'm trying to remember if stuff other than wands did this, but my memory is hazy. I should pick up that DS Remake again. I left off at the Sealed Cave. I always stop at the Sealed Cave when I replay it. Right after taking a detour to the Summon Village. Same thing for the GBA version and the PSOne release. I don't know why I stop there exactly.
FF6 blew me away when wands there did as much damage as swords. _________________

I want to like 2 more than 2017, but I like shiny HD graphics and a smooth framerate. I can see further into the distance in 2017, too.
Still playing Monster Hunter 2ndG. WIll trade my foot for a rathalos ruby, but the beast won't give them up! Papa needs a new gunlance. I've killed the Granddaddy Silver Rathalos 4 times now >:| _________________

Still playing Monster Hunter Portable G.
+40 more hours and still no Rathalos Hearts >:|
Playing this over Wifi Max with friends (and sometimes random hunters) is the shit. Four players against one monster just seems so unfair to the beast. I almost pity it. Probably the biggest reason I have soared past the 200 hour mark.
Started playing Culdcept Saga again. Found a way to farm cards which allowed me to get 1000 cards in like a weekend. Now that I have work and grownup obligations this is a nice timesave!
Finished Gears of War 2. Yeah that cliffhanger ending was so expected and it sucked. Felt like Wile E Coyote slamming into the wall after painting a tunnel and having the roadrunner run through it.
Horde mode alone made me feel better again, real quick! I can beat Wave 1 by myself :-D. Squished by Wave 3, dream of getting to Wave 5. _________________

I just set up a VS match with Ancient God Baltias on a big board that gives out 16 cards as a reward.
Set the game up for 10 rounds. Very important!
Baltias (or any aggressive opponent) will spend any amount of money to bone you in those 10 rounds. Tease him with things to make him use his spell cards.
You stroll along placing cheap creatures, blazing trails with haste and holy words. If you get kissed by ladyluck you may even finish a lap. You will probably win against the CPUs reckless behavior. The whole thing takes 5 minutes; 7 min. at most. Even if by some freak occurrence you take a loss, you still get 8 cards! _________________

Man, that would be swell. I play with another (real) friend of mine here in the area so 4 player extermination cavaliers may be possible! Currently it's usually a 2 man expedition. Having more people out makes using the hunting horn more attractive and will make going long range an even better option! I try to get good with long range, but can't quite gel with it as much as I do with the Gunlance and Greatsword. Training missions are sort of easing me in though.
Currently though I use an ISO of Portable 2G with an english language patch. If this game wasn't nice enough to let me import my Freedom 2 save, I probably wouldn't have bothered converting.
I'm sure some smart man will find a way to bring over Portable 2G saves to Unite.
Eagerly awaiting the Wii version here. Be nice to see it on the big screen again! Hell, only having voice chat gets me pumped! I can't do that via WiFi Max on PSP. IMing (and having the other person bother noticing) when getting chewed on by a Rajang proves to be a hell of a speed bump. _________________

Really! Double Half circle supers have always been my bane in KOF games.
It doesn't help that Yamazaki is my favorite char. in KOF. Pretzels (Geese) give me less trouble.
Gotta run out to get a points card after work then! Didn't know SF2 HD is dropping for x360 tonight! May take a timeout from my usual game for this one!

Man, I gotta get around to playing TF6. Have had it sitting around for months.
Between the little free time I have available. Curse you Monster Hunter for being so easily available in my jacket pocket (i can't believe I cleared the training missions for special piercings). Xbox360 multiplay at home before bed, I haven't had time to sit and play a good shooter in forever. _________________

Dragon Quest is the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" of videogames.
Really nothing warms you up and feel better on a frigid day than a round of Dragon Quest while wrapped in a blanket. You can just sit back and get lost in it. _________________

Shit, that was an awesome read. In the 2 years I have dabbled in this game, I don't think I've ever made it past the Orc mines. I wish I could play that well. I don't even do half that well with easier classes like the Minotaur Fighters or Elf Wizards.
I shall now dust off Crawl again, too!

I am playing SF4 still. I see some guys from here also play it, but never seem to run into them.
I mainly use El Fuerte and am surprised I like him so much. I disliked Guy in the Alpha series. I've been hovering between 2.5k and 3.2k bro points here. I sometimes switch to Dhalsim should I ever face a Cammy since I have no answer vs her as El Fuerte.
I would love to reach 4k bro points, but it looks like people are figuring out my latin shenanigans.
When not at home I am chipping away on DQ V. It is such a joy to play in 30minute chunks. I love having a healslime in my wagon. Though I abused my prayer ring too much, because it crumbled. I didn't know they wasted away. I hope I can get another one since I abused multiheal so much. _________________

I am willing to play non-ranked if I get an invite. Just my circle of friends aren't very much into fighting games.
Nothing is more satisfying than getting a win with Dan though. As much as I thought Dan died after Alpha in SF canon, he just looks so good in the SFIV graphical style. _________________

Well, if you're playing on PS3, my name is leroystanks.
And if you're main is El Fuerte, then I'll prepare to get wrecked quite a bit. |
Darn I'm on the Xbawks. Though I am looking to buy a PS3 in the not too far future. I blame Demon's Souls for pushing me over the edge finally.

that's sad to see the multiplayer that way. i am still interested in it because i have been wanting to play this with a steering wheel forever. i've never been able to locate a wheel for the reg. xbox and am hoping it will work well with one of the available x360 wheels. _________________

also. I'm curious to whether or not the rubber banding can be toggled on and off. even the machine at the arcade lets me do this. though this usually means that the first one to crash loses.
EDIT: Looks like I'm probably not going to buy this. at least for now. The wheel support is non-existant; just sort of treats it like a much less sensitive regular controller. Not even rumble. Broken online doesn't help.
I'll just stick with my Xbox copy of Coast 2 Coast. It's not 720p only 480p and widescreen, but I can live with that. _________________

Yeah. Though it's real touchy on how the system will flag the option to allow it to display that way.
On my television I'd have to tell the system that I do not support 720p and higher. Yet, let it know that my set is widescreen and does 480p.
With those options it then proceeds to play it in 16:9 mode. If I have the usual HD options it defaults to 4:3 mode. It's kinda weird, but I don't know anyone else with this game (or even a reg. xbox) to verify if it's just my set being goofy. _________________

In Dark Spire my thief became incredibly useful when I accidentally discovered thre is a "Hide" option if I hit a direction when selecting "Defend". The next turn he gets a backstab bonus and hits a random thug for HUEG damage. The Warrior has "Counter", I've not used it.
Here I was thinking he was just made to die every other fight!

No kidding they're conservative. It's a hell of a downer that I will never play Captain Rainbow or Giftpia. Ever. Still secretly holding out for a PAL release of Captain Rainbow.
Captain Rainbow really looked fantastic, but I have always enjoyed things released by Skip.
Though I am playing Culdcept DS and couldn't be happier! Thanks to some cool cats that bothered translating the cards into English! The battles are so snappy and the online is super sweet.
Unlike the the x360 version that constantly disconnects. Of all games, really, why this one? Nothing breaks me more than 90 minutes into a match you get a connection error. It's not like it's even a network intensive game! /rant
Obviously this is where the love went. There is so much more care here than in the one on Xbox. Loads of downloadable content. Snappier online play (I use Wifi Max just like my PSP). Even a community by these kind folk. Why would Sega not publish this here!? I'm probably the only person who cares about this game. Can't believe it's been out for 10 years! _________________

I'd play it too! We could play together. In an alternative universe where Sega is a bit cooler that is.
How is it generally by the way? Just conceptually, it seems like Culdcept would work really really well on the DS. |
Generally is a very exciting game! The best comparison is Magic and Monopoly's bastard child. You go around a board and place creatures on a colored square to claim it. Matching elements nets you a bonus, but any creature could be used. Example, putting a Fire creature on a Fire land gives it an HP bonus. As you level the land (thinking adding houses in Monopoly) your HP bonus grows higher making it harder to unseat the creature and increasing the "rent".
You run around and can unseat that creature with weapon cards. THese cards can be used only in battle. Battle happens if you land on a property, but want to avoid paying it. The opponent can defend it with armor if they possess any in their hand. Win and the property is now yours with full bonuses. Lose and you pay the rent along with whatever the creature and weapon cost to summon.
There are also spell cards that directly attack a creature, inhibit movements, shatter cards, and drain liquid reserves (cash). It can be very intense because unlike other games where if you lose, the match is over in 2 minutes. Here if you are losing it is long and drawn out until someone meets the Goal money. Usually 8000, but it's customizable. When someone is losing here they will be very bitter while you have the stupidest smile on your face for the entire time. We all hate each other after an intense match.
Now one thing that makes it interesting is that you can see the opponent's hand while it's their turn. This is where people get confused, but its actually part of the game. That minute you can glimpse at it will determine whether you invade, take it, really adds strategy. Now some people wish you could not see the other hands, but those people do not know how to play. They think in Yu-Gi-Oh which has so many rules I will not even bother.
I keep playing it because there is no "ultimate" deck. There is always a way to beat a strategy and the luck of the draw and the draw of a die can just as quickly make or break someone. Over 400 cards and 50 in a deck. You can use up to 4 of a kind so there's tons of ways to arrange your plans.
So glad it's in English no more having to guess at what the cards do. Perfectly playable online and it even includes voice chat. _________________

It has an English patch out. All the cards are translated with effects. A little bit of the story is worked on, and none of the shrine effects. The important thing is cards being done though. I can up a working image, but it will have to be much later as I am at work until night time. You can fetch it here if you want to patch it yourself.
I WISH Sega was kind enough to translate it.
They are on my crap-list this year for not bothering to bring Shiren 3 (Wii) and Culdcept DS. Two games I thought were pretty certain for these shores seeing as Shiren DS (also Chocobo Mystery Dungeon for Wii) and Culdcept (X360) were brought over. Still kinda pissed at how lousy the online is for Culdcept x360 is and Namco does nothing to recitfy it. Of all the games to have connection problems is one where you think would have the simplest online implementation.
Culdcept DS is love though. Based on the Saturn version of the game even including some of the old art. No Doublecasts or Immediate creautures (i kinda liked that though as I like to play aggressive). I do appreciate that this version has all the cards be a certain species (serpent, beast, undead, humanoid) along with an element. Does add some variety to most of the cards. Though this version wins because the boards are alot more interesting to play on!
Counter amulet is still counter amulet, however <3 _________________

Of course since it's been like 6 years since I've last touched it, this will be a pathetic display of spamming close attacks and whiffing dashes. _________________

This alone justifies its VERY modest price tag. All games should have this much love in the options screen.
Then again the last compilation I've picked up were Fantasy Zone and Monster World Sega Ages sets, so it sort of already has! _________________

casshern (<3 friender spam) and polymar are my awesome team. ryu has insane priority. i dislike him.
rock and roll are my dream team. capcom, why must you tease me with so much megaman legends here T_T i really like that roll explodes when you KO her.
i use fuerte in sf4 so half the roster is a bad match for me. i have to tostada/propeller game everyone 6 times to get the damage that one bad guess will return to me and even the match. jab DP to fireball with ryu is such nonsense. you can bake a cake in the time you have after hitting that jab DP. even if it trades! i poo on ryu _________________

I picked up Punch-Out last night.
It is shadow boxing at its finest. Now I'm sure i can get better times just playing with a controller, but it is actually really fun to throw out a punch. I actually worked up a sweat flailing about, I may have to do this more often!
Once again Nintendo misses an obvious option. I'm rather annoyed that I can't switch the controls to lefty. For some odd reason (and only on Wii) I will use the nunchuck in my right hand and the wiimote in my left. Also why I was so sour at making Link right-handed (and mirroring the world) in Twilight Princess.
Even so, since I'm only throwing out punches it is not too much of a hinderance. I really love the presentation here. All the boxers speak only in their native tongues and they're all flamobyant in some way which just adds to their personalities. The pre-bout "day in the life" pictures are very enjoyable to look into the fighters.
One hit KO-ing everyone was good fun. It felt good being able to spot Great Tiger right in the gut during his magic dash move. I lost to Don Flamenco because I kept trying to find a way to get a star on him and failing. He has been upgraded quite a bit though he now fights like a "Super Macho Man" lite and really enjoy that he only speaks Spanish.
I'd talk more, but I only goofed around to see how far I could get in "1 credit". It's real satisfying when I can get a KO vs a TKO in the first round as it always has been. _________________

A kinda play it as pacman with ninjas and revel in its ridiculousness of ninjas that can't swim. I also enjoy going to the rooftops and the enemies forget I exist almost immediately.
Did you ever play the one on PS1? Does this one change things and give you insta-fail if you get spotted now. it's been on my list for a bit. _________________

For some reason I keep firing up SF4 at least once a week. I find it endlessly amusing that my Fuerte is considered cheap every time I win. Loads of minus rep because I hurt their feelings with knockdown shenanigans (tostada/tortilla).
I mean what else do they expect me to do, let them rise again? Fuerte is practically made of glass, stamina-wise. If I'm up against a Sagat/Ryu, and and after 3 splashes decide to let them rise out pity, would I not be forced to dodge tigers/hadokens for the rest of the match? This probably all boils down to people not being fans of losing. _________________

OOH! this looks good. I've never even heard of it! anymore details about this supposed trilogy i never knew existed?
I could use something like this after the beating "The Dark Spire" (no relation) gave me on the DS. _________________

yeah i've been reading that the game is a clusterfuck of stuff going on and is full of potential
great! i went out and bought it
the game is pretty hard, i died alot just doing the last tutorial battle |
this sounds like my experience in "World Ends with You". which I am enjoying! Despite coming in wanting to dislike it. the Kingdom Hearts smell is what drove me away initially, but it is slowly growing on me. i partly blame gironika's sig/avatar combo for making me want to play it. subliminal advertising.
the battle system still confuses me, does anyone have tips on getting the most out of it? i have my partner set to manual to increase my battle bonuses. it works, but i feel i could do better if i understood it a little more.
knights in the nightmare is next once i am through with the above. _________________

i would be playing this if it was $20 cheaper. I just can't make myself pay more than $40 for any game.
TWEWY: I'm only on Day 3 so I just discovered eating (I'm already "full") and I only have 3 pins available. I think what bugs me most is that I can't move my AI friend. I can make her jump though, but only have enough time to put in the short attack command. _________________

You mean you only have 3 pins in your collection, or you can only equip 3 at a time? If the former, fight moar noise. If the latter, save that scarletite, and buy some extra slots. Poke around the shops also. And Shiki's jump is kinda worthless. |
I finished the first week. I actually found Shiki's jump to be really useful. It was great for clobbering birds. it did wicked damage to them compared to her ground attacks.
I have way more pins now of course. Unfortunately I did not know they mingle, shutdown, and battle points all influence whether a pin upgrades or not. I've had some good pins that did not mutate and I was all :( I at least appreciate that Shutdown and Mingle points are worth way more than battle points. I can at least still use them in battle since 100 Battle points are less valuable than 100 Shutdown/Mingle points.
I am in Joshua's chapter now. I am in a coffee shop. I dislike him and his fusion. I have to pay attention to his screen since Fusion requires me to match up numbers. I like that it restores a tiny bit of HP, it has saved my ass a couple of times. Plus dodging those f'ing Kangaroos on his screen is a nightmare. I can deal with boomerang crabs. Those kangaroos though! Ridiculous damage if I don't dodge. It's hard enough trying to do one screen, but both is a nightmare! _________________

i picked this up when I found it for sale at only $30 a few months back. Just before Raiden Fighters arrive on xbawks. Tell more more! Liveblogg it, plz.
I've been wanting to play this, but instead play SF4 because it's already in the system. AC4:4A just looks intimidating with all the options presented. _________________
