Fantasy Zone Complete Collection is pretty much the best collection of old games ever made. The fact that it includes a new game certainly tilts things in its favor.
Also, there're a few pictures of Manabu Namiki wearing a Llamasoft t-shirt in this SMS Power thread. |

It seems like a pretty cool game though! a few minutes in the Training mode learning Goh's movelist impressed me with how it all works together. I just suck at fighting games in general. |
The game has a ridiculously in-depth tutorial with character specific strategies and string/combo suggestions for a reason.
(the reason is: for people to ignore, apparently) |

This is probably the vilest shit I've seen on XBLA all year.
Edit: Guess what got announced today!

Yeah, wow. Sorry, let me be clear: they are not making a pop'n music movie, here. It's just the new arcade installment. |

The vast majority of popular songs from every version of the game are included in each arcade iteration of pop'n music, just so you know.
(so yes, balls-out rock will definitely be in there) |

Oh yeah man, for sure. The best part is that the kana font that the game uses has a ro character that looks just like a "D," so everyone actually refers to it as "Balls Out Dick"
The more you know. |

God, those last 4 levels were hard. |
I just got to the point where I decided I was done playing the game. They learned from a lot of their mistakes, but not enough to make me think "yeah, this is a lot of fun."
Rock Band 2 vocals, on the other hand. Those are pretty great! I'm glad that you don't have to be some kind of vocal Robo God in order to play on expert, now. |

| Jesus christ that's harsh, firenze. Riviera is a pretty interesting game! I've told friends to give it a glance and they've ended up digging it. |

Yeah, Leau. Not feeling your post at all, bud. I think this is probably because every time a Perfect opportunity comes up I either play it once and do it the first time, or think "I'll come back to it later" and do one of the other many things to do in the game. Constantly having new challenges to take care of definitely doesn't strike me as a bad thing, and the game not letting you try more than a set number of times is good, I think. It forces you to try new shit instead of just banging your head against one challenge over and over again.
There's no question that the english-language vocalists are awful, though. |

I really dig that game's soundtrack, and Yousuke Yasui by association (he seems to have a thing for FM synthesis, so he's definitely okay in my book).
If you were to ignore scoring, is the game as much of an homage to Kiki KaiKai as it looks on the surface? |

Since I have finished "The World Ends With You" (everyone should play this, btw). I secretly hope it never gets a sequel. How low a run did anyone else make it through this? because the last boss deals stupid damage I had to pump my level to 48 to actually survive it. Anyway, I am sort of lost in looking for another game to play.

The post-game is insanely good, dude. Go back and check that out. It's the most fun I've had making numbers go up in a video game ever. I think I finished the game 16 hours in, but I wasn't done until something like... 45 hours? I can't think of any other game where that's happened to me. |

I played Raiden III enough to 1-credit it, something that I can't believe I did in retrospect, because it is a pretty mediocre game. I played Raiden IV earlier today at a friend's house, and while it's a litttttle bit better than III was, there's no way in hell I'm going to spend serious time playing it. Most of the stages feel like rehashes of Raiden III's stages, which themselves feel like rehashes of Raiden I & II stages, and in fact there is actually a new stage for the 360 version that is a straight-up remake of a stage from Raiden II. It's pretty boring, as a whole!
There's a new feature that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere (although yeah, I'm sure shmups forum knows about it): if there's a powerup on the screen, you can release the fire button and it will stop moving, allowing you to pick it up more easily at the cost of uh, having to stop firing. The powerup will also stop cycling between colors/missile types. If you've played Raiden before, you'll often run into the risky situation wherein powerups are floating at the top of the screen, but enemies are also firing from up there at near point-blank range. Your ship also has hilariously slow vertical movement, and the powerup you actually want is on the verge of changing colors. Figuring out how to grab stuff from the top of the screen was a pretty common game-breaking situation, and I guess this is their way of fixing it? I dunno. You still never want to grab the purple weapon, and every missile type other than "R" is awful. It's a pretty bizarre solution to a problem that seems to have been included in the game on purpose. |

| Killer7. Played it for about an hour this morning. Uhhh, so far it feels like a game made by David Lynch's annoying, retarded, adolescent son. Will the desire to punch myself in the face every second subside and turn into something resembling joy or am I better off quitting now if I hate it already? |
If you already hate it as much as it sounds like you do, then you're better off quitting. |

The CPU in MVC2 is the equivalent of playing against really bad players, in my experience. But that was back on the Dreamcast. I have no idea if the CPU in the new ports are different, but I doubt it, since Backbone was responsible.

| I'd say if you need to "work" to enjoy the game, you're probably not going to enjoy it ever (even if you get better at them). |
In a related note, I've been playing Vampire Savior and Real Bout 2 via ggpo/2df lately, and boy do I ever wish I'd played these games in-depth before doing that fight man game podcast, because they're dope as fuck. |
