great enemy, or greatest enemy?

unlike the tall, statuesque form of ironknuckle, whose featureless visage emanates a kind of alien aloofness, doomknocker's sprite exudes character: those grim helmet eyes, that slight hunch - the result, no doubt, of years of slinging heavy maces. doomknocker's movement pattern - a slow shuffle from left to right, eyes fixed unblinkingly on link, continuously tossing morningstars - is just as telling.

while ironknuckle carries a kind of regal bearing, brings a feeling of ceremony to battle - the archetypical role-fulfilment of holy guardian versus profane intruder - doomknocker has fewer illusions about its role at the temple. doomknocker doesn't care about politics, it performs its duty because it has kids to feed. and it performs that duty well. doomknocker doesn't need to receive compliments.

just the same, doomknocker's name is curt and imposing but reflects its attitude toward its job. it both evokes the physicality of doomknocker's modus operandi - thrown hammers - and somewhat alludes to a more metaphysical interpretation: "doom" "knocking" on one's door. it sounds good - the hard k of "knock" feels like a tangible blow after the softness (and abstractness) of "doom" - and stands as its own compound word, a kompositum, distinct and recognizable.

that name may well be the thing you remember doomknocker for - doomknocker doesn't go out of its way to be recognized, content to leave the spotlight to such as ironknuckle and dreadhawk - those to whom such glamour matters. doomknocker is less ostentatious - it knows its job, does it well, and goes home at the end of the day to be with its family. doomknocker is a working class enemy.

Where did you people get the name "Doomknocker" from?

According to this infallible information source, that enemy has no English name at all. (And in Japan, his name is apparantly "Hell Gooma.")
It uses the following sources:
Quote:
AoL: American and Japanese manuals. Official Nintendo Player's Guide. The Japanese names came from the Futabasha guide (which is available on my site). These names are also listed on this site: The Museum of Zelda. This is where I got the names originally.

Explain yourself!

according to wikipedia and a variety of other sources, the english name for the enemy is "doomknocker". i'm not sure where the name originated, as the enemy is not listed in the english manual (while ironknuckle is. typical), but the important thing is that doomknocker now carries a fitting and dignified title after its years of unsung labor.

art of doomknocker wearily hefting a club from futabasha's strategy guide.

It's balefully obvious that half of the names on that site are made up. The name they give our beloved Acheman is "Devil"!

Darknuts vs Iron Knuckles:

Darknuts:
* Generally have a weak spot on the back.
* Usually have a shield (or otherwise use a sword defensively).
* Sometimes throw spears (in the Game Boy games).

Iron Knuckles:
* Have those battle-axes, sometimes.
* Often have possessed dudes underneath the armour.

I kept reading Doomknocker as Doorknocker for some reason, but still felt that the name was a very apt description.

Hey guys, the least you could do is give my un-asked-for custom rank proper capitalisation.

Or something.

P.S: Minish Cap is the "The Magician's Nephew" of the Zelda series. In more ways than one.

sorry but it was too good to pass up.

also capitalization would sort of ruin the point, don't you think?
