I told myself that I would buy this game for the PSP when it was $20, and it's $19.99 at Gamestop, so I bought it last week. Absolriffically worth it.
Now, that being said, keep in mind that I haven't played the actual PC version, but I have played a cheap knockoff/blatant copy of the game that did run on my Mac, so I had some idea of what I was getting into. I must admit that I wasn't expecting it to be so "Q-ified," but viva la Q-ification! I do find myself really getting into the groove of the game, and the music is definitely something that pumps and grooves.
It's nice to find something simple, yet surprisingly deep, with enough enjoyment for me to say, "Oh, that's $20 well-spent." Makes me hungry for Rez, which I've unfortunately never had the pleasure of experiencing, though I did hunt for it for my DC for a while. This is actually my first Q title for the PSP (never bought Lumines or Lumines II), but I enjoyed Meteos on the DS, so I figured it'd be worth the chance.
You betcha. Right up my stinking alley, *especially* since it's so easy to pick up and put down, even more so than Meteos. Color me pleased, and satisfied. |

I don't like the feel of it. It feels slower and more imprecise than the PC version, but I can't quite put my finger on why. Even the "original" game feels this way.
John Mc. doesn't understand why I feel this way. Perhaps someone else could give me the words to articulate my point with? |

I though I would like it.
The first couple of tries were kind of frustrating. It felt imprecise and kind of sluggish for me, too. The hit detection is a bit spotty and it doesn't help that the explosions change appearance in every skin.
I think part of the problem lies with the size of the field(?). Granted, it's still a decent game, though some of the boss objectives are annoying.
Also, the analog nub sucks for the game. _________________

I hate that thing. |

d-pad works.
I really enjoyed E3. The only thing I miss from E2 was the light mode music, but then again I never played that game extensively. I adapted to the looser feel of E3 rather easily. I really appreciate it's new Rezian art direction, but I don't think it's soundtrack is as strong as Rez's. It's more ambient and there is less user-involvement. |

They do not require that you use the nub. I play with the dpad, which is awesome, but I've modded mine. That might be why some of you guys are having a problem with it because I'm really enjoying it as well. The charge and break core elements that they've added seem like a good addition, but I never played EE exhaustively so I guess I wouldn't know how they affect balance.
Some of these skins are mildly annoying, but then there're some really nice ones like Sakura Drive.
They made the same mistake they did with Lumines I: when you finish playing and get a high score, instead of asking you if you want to save, it asks you if you want to load your previous save. The wording is confusing, but basically it's asking if you want to NOT save, so you have to say NO and then say YES I do want to save when the next dialog box pops up. It's one of the most backwards things I've run into in a videogame. _________________

Yes, I believe that that's the very one.

Thanks for trying to help, but I don't own a PS2. Perhaps that's heresy or something, but I've never bought one. I was looking for Rez for my Dreamcast, specifically.

If I remove the word "stinking," will that make it sound less stupid and/or disgusting?
Sigh...I wish I knew how to properly separate quotes. Nuts, that looks silly. |

I made that, and am currently working on the "full" version, which will be very different from (and dare I say "better than"? No, that would sound pompous) Every Extend Extra. |

You made that? That's quite good! I congratulate you! I especially thought that the boss names were completely hilarious, in that "Engrish-speaking guy on acid" kind of way. It's definitely a bare-bones game, but it was functional and friendly, so it scored points in my book. Want a donation?
And thanks for making it Mac-friendly, too. I miss so much as a result of being on this machine. |

Thanks! Yeah, it was intentionally barebones so that I could use it to test the mechanics. The full version will be much prettier. You should also check out Sketchy, which is completely different gameplay-wise, but does also run on a Mac.
Sadly, the full version of Pretty Pretty Bang Bang will be PC-only unless it does well enough that we can justify porting it to the Mac. |

Isn't that what the ability is called though? Anyways, the gameplay isn't frantic enough for breakcore. Are there any cool bullet hell shmups with breakcore soundtracks because I could get behind something like that. _________________

I really like EEE, the later levels are incredibly hard for me. I want to play it more but all the other PSP titles are taking all my time. _________________ --play to win-- |

i really love this game!
i never played the free PC version so i honestly have no idea what the key differences are.
anyway, what i like about it is that it works like most shooters for me: on days when i "get it," i can do amazingly well. other times i'll keep screwing up over and over again on stupid shit. |

Word: boss names like "Aromatic Sycophant" and "Hairdresser Corndog" are woefully inferior to those concocted by the true masters of Engrish boss names (which include such gems as "Hysteric Empress", "Eight Foot Umbrella" and "Curious Chandelier".)
Super Tips:
* The form "<adjective> <noun>" works best! (This is why "Oviparious Avocado" is the best name in the game.)
* More syllables != more jollity.
P.S: What the heck happened to the sound effects? In particular, the juicy "bang" sound.
P.P.S: I noticed that all of the bosses post-level 8 have the same name. Funnier, in my opinion, would be to take their original names and add "with cheese" to the end. |

Well, I wanted them to be evocative of Darius boss names; I had no delusions of superiority.

originally most of the sound effects were ripped from Every Extend. That did not make me happy, so I changed them, even though the ones I changed them to are inferior.
"with cheese" would DEFINITELY make it better. I may implement that! |

As a note, I have no problems with collision detection on EEE. I cleared the game on one credit on my second or third play of it, and have cleared it on a few different paths now. I also didn't know about the charge bomb attack for my first 4 or so plays. So if you feel that breaks it just don't use it because it can be cleared without it. _________________

Wow...this game continues to kick my can. Tonight, whilst playing Stage Six for the first time, I actually received the rank of "WHOOPS." from the game. I just had to laugh, since that was the first time I'd run into that particular level and boss, and was still learning what, exactly, needed to be attacked in order to defeat said boss. Previously, my worst ranking to that point had been "DOT EATER," which now doesn't bother me *near* as much, knowing that there's lower still.
Apparently, I didn't figure out that level very well. :)
How some of you folks are one-crediting this bad boy your second or third time through is beyond me, but I'm steadfastly refusing to continue, and I'm enjoying this thing supremely. |
