Hey, awesome! People must be too busy playing to respond, right? I guess I'll download this, now!

The patch ALSO translates the manual, which is extensive! I recommend reading it; one thing it points out is that with better versions of the MSX, you'll be able to save to more than one file!

Too bad I suck at videogames. I've explored enough of the ruins to find the second Area, and I've walked overland between Algol and the waterfall, but I have yet to accrue enough money to get the Hand Scanner. I *did* pick up a life capsule, though. More health is NICE.

And holy shit, but experience is slow to accrue.

If what the manual says is true, "EXP increases as you defeat enemies, and when the meter is full, your VIT will completely be restored." So honestly, EXP isn't very useful unless you're planning to explore extremely deep into a ruin.

Do you know of some super-obvious VIT restoration method that I'm missing, then? Because every time I load the game, I find myself quickly reduced to a low life-total, and then I spend all my time running from enemies and wondering how on earth I'm supposed to make money. I had around 10 coins after buying my x10 cartridge; my three next attempts at getting further, I collected ONE (1) ADDITIONAL COIN before losing most of my VIT and hobbling back to the save point. Then, I'd die, and when I'd reload, I'd manage to collect ONE (1) MORE COIN. This is the slowest possible incremental progress that still qualifies as progress!

I've gotten further on my own, although I appreciate the advice. Got the shuriken, the hand scanner, half a dozen MSX chips and a mental workout as I try to mentally map the ruins while exploring in three different directions simultaneously.

I think I want to buy a Glyph Reader next; I was tempted to skip it in favor of the MSX 2, there are a couple chests I think I might be able to get into if only I could read the accompanying tablets.

Got myself locked into a four-screen oubliette in the next area down from the Guidance Gate. After weighting one button, whipping another, and activating a third I STILL couldn't get out. I'm not going to go that way yet this time.

Uh... shit. The game's fine on my parents' computer, but on mine--the graphics are wrong. The top half of the screen works normally. The bottom half of the screen is an impenetrable black rectangle of emptiness.

Help.

I couldn't figure out the Grail until I talked with the Elder about it and then read the game controls in the manual. Those two facts together enabled me to use it. Handy!

The game is great, but I hate the three birds in the entry to La Mulana. I have to deal with them each time I go there.

This is why the Grail is so awesome.

Well you don't have to go around that screen to enter the gate if you have some stars to throw around~ *hint hint* or you can use the grail, yea.

Wait, what?

Man, this game. This game! Man.

I think I've been to six different fields so far, although I've only really explored two of them. I should get back to that, since I haven't even fought a room guard yet, let alone a guardian. Just about to buy an MSX2!

Well. I'm beating my head against the wall here, because I'm not making any progress. Rather than wander aimlessly, I'm trying to just finish the first field--and I feel like I'm up against a wall.

Here's the situation: The last concrete progress I made was to walk across the invisible blocks between the angels and flip the switches up there. I noticed the ankh has now appeared in the empty room with the ladders; unfortunately, I can't find the ankh jewel. I think it's past the corridor beneath the room with all the spikes and jumping monsters, but I don't know because I can't open the red barrier there. I found the tablet that says to "offer three sacrifices to the heavens", so I tried jumping down the hole three times. It didn't do anything, that I can see.

Could somebody please give me some indication of what I should be doing?

The red door opens one way; you just need to push it until it opens (you can't open it the wrong way anyways for this door). And read all the tablets. All the clues for the boss is on that field. Also if you haven't done so...

I've done that thing you mentioned already. As for the door, I guess I just need to push on it more? Huh. I guess I'll try that.
