This is totally SNK art in a Capcom game. I remember being completely shocked when I saw the cover for this game, because I was like "This is totally SNK art in a Capcom game!" Who's the artist who has this style, why did he suddenly draw this one cover for Capcom, and why don't I see his art anymore? Because I really like the style. It's sort of realistic, but still idealized-anime-ish.

I need to look up some better adjectives.

His name is Shinkiro. The newer SNK artist is Falcoon, and I hate his style.

More non-SNK Shinkiro goodness:

He's done quite a bit of work for Capcom recently, including the art for Capcom vs. SNK2, Capcom Fighting Evolution, and Biohazard on DS.

Falcoon isn't all bad. I mean at least his stuff isn't as offensive to the eyes as Nona's was in 2001 (see here, or here if the direct link doesn't work).

Shinkiro has a pretty good style, though. Realistic in a sort of anime/anatomy textbook illustration sort of way.

I don't mind that Falcoon stuff. I remember seeing Mark of the Wolves for the first time and thinking how new it looked.
so yeah, not all bad I guess.

In before George Clooney.

...I mean, I think Falcoon is a pretty good artist; his liberties aren't as bad as, say HTK.

Shinkiro also drew some covers for Udon's Street Fighter comic, as well as the SF: Eternal Challenge book cover.

Yes, but he impressed the fuck out of me with KOF: MI2. The cosplay and alternate costume designs justified the price of the game to me.

Man, that HG101 page reminded me of all the hilariouis alternate costumes in MI2. I never knew about the Last Blade ones.

This definitely was a factor in selling the game to me.

I mean, aside from the gameplay and all. It's a sharp cover!

Mostly yes.

But if that promo art for the arcade version of MI2 is really Blue Mary... Well... Gigantic hair, a two-piece bikini, and knee-high chaps made from cut-off denim jeans?

Shinkiro is technically great. But everyone he draws has the same face.(slight exaggeration, but you know what i mean)

Thats totally Geese Howard , or Guile with a haircut there on the Psi Ops cover. Which artists did the art for KOF2K3 and KOFXI?

A large majority of illustrators from Japan draw the "same face" on all their characters. This guy is just more noticeable because he is closer to realism.

Falcoon did the 2k3 stuff, while Persona tells me Nona did XI.

Hiraoki for XI. I hope I spelled his name right!

Nona did sprite art.

Does anyone have pictures of his work in Capcom vs SNK 2? I'd love to see his renditions of Capcom characters.
