|

Hi. I'm making my bi-yearly pilgrimage to ask for help with things.
Thing 1 - I need more transcribers for gamasutra interviews. Our pipeline is getting a bottleneck (cylinders!), and we need more people. This basically entails typing the words from an audio file, and cleaning it up a little. It pays $1 per minute of audio, which is not a lot, but is more than zero. If you are interested, please mail me at brandon at insert credit dot com, which is my email address for now and for ever.
Thing 2 - I have a dumb video in a dumb competition. Please to vote for it! It's right here. Things wrong with this video: the framerate is fucked, the aspect ratio is wrong because of their software, and also it's not very good to begin with. But if you want to know what you're really voting for, go here and see the real thing (the one in the competition is shorter).
Note that in this video I wear a dress and a very poor robert downey jr costume.
Thanks fellows. I'll always remember the good times ;_; _________________

As one of the existing transcribers (and so one of the contributors to the bottleneck (dear god, burn out)), I can say that every person I've dealt with in the gamasutra crew has been good people. _________________

I will be sending little transcribe-y tests to everyone that mailed me within a couple days! _________________

I've actually, and perhaps foolishly, been avoiding moving on to doing interviews myself, because I figured that you guys needed transcriptions more than you'd need me interviewing random C-string industry players, and if I was gonna burn out doing anything for you, it might as well be the stuff that you need done.
Ass-backwards altruism, or something. I'm wondering if I did little more than shoot myself in the foot with that idea. Sigh.
Bro-tip for the people trying out: I've found that this application works pretty well to aid in transcriptions. Only warning is that its keybindings sometimes interfere with other keybindings such as Winamp's. _________________

I didn't study journalism, so, guys do you have any tips, tricks, bro-tips for a man interested in learning how to neatly write up a journalistic interview?
I am crawling the internets for educational material on this right now, though if anybody could give me some pointers or links, that would be greatly appreciated. Everything I can find seems to focus on conducting interviews, not what to do with it when you already have it on tape.
Maybe I should just look for general journalistic editing?
Also: looking at every gamasutra interview I can find with a magnifying glass itt

I won't pretend to know, but try comparing the Hirokazu Yasuhara interview's Gamasutra and Game Developer Magazine incarnations, if you get the mag. Seems a pretty good start. |

| I got an e-mail from Brandon saying that if we were still interested, he would send us a sample to transcribe. It's been weeks, and I haven't gotten anything. Did anyone get this sample? If I was the only one who didn't, I'll e-mail him again and try to get him to send it. |

Yeah, same for me. I told him that I was still interested, send away, etc. And then.... nothing.
I'm actually kind of honored by that. I feel like, I'm Tim Rogers and Brandon hasn't put up my huge ass article and it's been weeks and what the hell is up with that!? It's Insert Creditesque.
Bummer about the job though.
Although I'd be alright with waiting for it until the dollar is up again, because, hell, earning dollars while spending euros is really a bad idea right about now. |

Is this, like, that penis joke where the man goes "I'm in already" as the punchline? Because I think I saw that on Sex and the City.
Now that I'm looking at it, 1 US$ = 0,784559862 € isn't that bad. Certainly workable. I was just hoping for the dollar to be worth more than one euro. You know, like in the good ol' days of 2000-2002.
It can be said: between Brandon's post on Tue Sep 09, 2008 9:51 pm and yours on Sat Nov 01, 2008 2:29 pm the financial situation has changed.
Not enough to make me take my framed 20$ note from the wall, smash it on the ground and take it to the bank, though... yeah. Thanks for the heads-up! |

I have come close to making this exact same post a few times now because I really, really want the gig. I shot him back, too, after like a week, and I'm reluctant to do it again because one can only become so enthusiastic before being a pest.
If anyone is in regular contact with him, maybe you can mention it? He indicated that there's a huge amount of work to be done, and I could do it for hours and hours every single day--and taking on more freelance work would sort of plug the last logistical hole remaining in my life right now. So come on, Brandon, let's tango. |

Thank you, brother. I will tell Brandon if he ever reappears that you have tipped your hat to me. Since I don't even think you often wear hats, this will probably impress him!
sigh now that I'm thinking about this again I guess I should send him yet another email. I hate having to be a pest. |

This sounds cool but I think I'm a bit late to the party [also can Canadians even legally get paid by Gamasutra? probably not without a green card or something.] _________________ o-/< --- o-\< --- o-|-| --- o^-< |

I'd imagine they can work it out. Foreign correspondents have to be paid somehow, etc. _________________

Broseph Stalin -- Patsy -- used that image as an avatar for about a day. And then there was the meme of "Agreeing with Patsy ITT," which I kind-of started, by saying that some day, I did not know when, but some day, I would go into a thread in which he has not yet posted, and I would say: "Agreeing with Patsy ITT." So I did what I said that I was going to do, but used that image instead of his name, because you had said something about me in a hat.
A truly too-clever-for-my-own-good level of finesse. We're talking "master sushi chef working at McDonald's" kind of layering, here. _________________

Also, I checked with my handler, and he said that his side is pretty much covered. I've got two more interviews before I've cleared out his current lot. So I'm really not sure if they are in as much need now. I know that there was a super bottleneck when GDC and TGS hit nearly back-to-back, but it's been clearing up.
This transcription stuff is very seasonal; some months are pretty dry, and then some months are a downpour. Still, since I haven't been in touch with Brandon personally, maybe he has other stuff in mind. Dunno. _________________
