I can kind of sympathize with Rudie for a similar experience I had in 3. On the legendary difficulty and playing single player there's a standoff against a hallway of brutes armed with spikers, carbines and a gravity hammer. Without abusing the safe zone of the previous hallway I've pretty much found that area to be impossible.
On the other hand though, this kind of problem only showed up in legendary with a few of the skulls turned on. And playing co-op with even one person completely eliminates the problem as you can do things like cover one another and keep the brutes from swarming over you. It's still tough, but you don't have to be running away after every enemy you manage to kill. |

But there's a difference between taking cover while holding the enemy at bay and hiding back in the previous corridor where the enemy isn't programmed to go or fire. I wouldn't say that even the latter is cheating myself, but it does take a little fun out of a game to have to rely on an absolute safe zone. Again though, I didn't have to use such methods until a single player run of legendary. |
