so my parents got a new dog. i won't ever really see this dog, but i think he still deserves a good name and my parents have full confidence that i can help come up with something awesome.

here he is:

the pics aren't that great as they were sent from a cell phone, and he's a puppy so he is not really very good at staying still.

so far i like the name "bazarov", "baz" or "bazil" for short. leave it to turgenev to crop up just in time to help name the family dog.

my mom is campaigning for "hubbell" ala "your girl is lovely hubbell" (the way we were). i like this one too, granted. i just want him to have a good name !

ideas ? anyone ? anyone?

Actually Hubbel sounds fitting to me. I can't think of Bazil without associating with Fawlty Towers, which is no bad thing I guess but I don't see it for this dawg.

Charlie was the first name that came to mind prior to reading your post, but Baz sounds good too.

What kind of dog is that by the way?

he is half lab half, siberian husky ! four months old apparently, but seems to be a fairly fast learner according to my mom.

he is pretty cute, although i dont know if these pictures are that great.

No joke. Is he crazy energetic or what? What's his personality like?

Jazz musicians have a weird tendency of making great dog names: Brubeck, Ayler, Miles, Porter, etc. And he's got a bit of that sagacity in his face that might make it work.

You can always shorten Basil to Baz and that sounds like a fine name to me.

yeah that was also my idea. i am quite fond of it, but it is a bit obscure i don't know if my parents will go for it.

i haven't met him in person yet, but my mom says he's pretty decently behaved. he is only four months, but he was at an animal shelter so i don't know if that has anything to do with it. she said he is somewhat of a fast learner; they've only had him for a couple of days and he's mastered "sit" and isn't pulling as much on the leash when they walk him. we had two labs when i was a kid growing up, so we're used to the sort of nutty-lab qualities that may or may not come out. haha

ooo that's kind of neat !
but then i might have to persuade them to get another dog and name it sifl haha.

when i was a kid we had a brown lab and i named him gromit, and then we randomly by chance adopted a black lab and ended up calling him wallace after nick park's 'wallace & gromit'. i could totally see the same thing happening again only with sifl and oli (olly) hah
