Hello friends:
Trillian is being kind of a bitch; I got a webcam for free and it does not work along with any of the suggestions on their site. Are there any other programmes that allow for the usage of multiple chat clients, per chance? |

Is that available for windows?
Why don't we make this a Help Me With My Webcam thread too? Really, I just want to Show my penis to people. It's like a Microsoft VX6000, and, uh, on Trillian it just tells me that an error occurred while establishing the conference. Anyone else had trouble like this? |

no, but gaim/pidgin is, which is the program upon which adium is based. |

Maybe I'll try those soon.
I tried this Digsby shpiel on some stray friendly words and the video was still...problematic at connecting. But I can get the webcam to work through windows. What could possible be wrong with my computer that multiple clients don't work and the webcam does through My Computer? |

You're talking about IM clients. Chat clients typically refer to IRC. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

| Yeah, Pidgin is about the best you can do for Windows from what I have seen. I love Adium on OSX though. It's Pidgin but with some more options, basically. Both are good programs though that let you access whatever IM client you want. |

pidgin is pretty bloated, though. i use miranda IM. it's super-lean (about 11 MB in RAM with a few windows open), incredibly extensible (if there's an IM protocol, someone has probably written a dll for miranda that supports it) and very customizable.
it takes a bit of configuration to get working the way you'd like, but i think the wealth of configuration options is one of it's strengths as well. |

I use meebo. It's nice because you never have to download it. _________________ interdimensional |

Meebo and Adium (as mentioned) are basically Pidgin, or more accurately all of them are frontends for libpurple which is what powers Pidgin.
Personally I like Pidgin because it's cross-platform (I use it on multiple OS's), it's easy to use and it enjoys regular updates. It falls flat on its face however when it comes to anything like audio or video communication but all those "exciting extras" are also part of the reason why I prefer Pidgin over clients like .NET Messenger or AIM.
I used to be an avid user of Miranda and loved to tweak it. But when plugins kept on getting outdated its appeal dropped for me and Pidgin (GAIM at the time) won me over because it just worked out of the box. Has Miranda improved in that aspect? Because it was pretty rad at the time! |

I use my own MSN client that I (re)programmed myself. For AIM I use AIM 4.8. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

I use Miranda because I am somewhat of a masochist and also it's kind of pretty if you spend some time dicking with it. _________________
