Oh Manny Ramirez, I remember when you were a real idiot, and not just kinda one.
Don't worry, I'm no Cubs fan, just an Indians fan from back in the day, back when someone used to have to yell to remind Manny to catch the ball. Hell no, I am not even making that up. |

| Yeah, he is likable, actually. Just not the smartest ball player. He has gotten a lot smarter than he was back in the day. |

I'm a Red Sox fan, and I always enjoyed watching Manny, but a lot of stuff came out of the woodwork when he left that made me question how nice he actually was (like not tipping clubhouse attendants and making other players cover for him, not to mention pushing over old men). Of course, the Boston press always had an axe to grind with Manny, so it's hard to quite tell how much is true and how much isn't.
I've personally got nothing against Manny (even though I think his stats post-trade make it pretty clear that he was dogging it in Boston), but I think we're a much stronger team without him. |

It was Game One. Given, it's the Cubs, so all their fans will over-react; still, losing Game One in a seven-game series is hardly the end of the world, especially since this is baseball, not basketball (where overall talent/skill has a much greater weight).

Yeah, there wasn't a lot of love lost when he left Cleveland. There was a big feeling of "sweet, we have a bit of a budget back. let boston blow their WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on him".
I don't doubt the behind the scenes dickery, either, just that he is generally likable on the field. |

First round division series is 5 games, not seven. |

My mistake!
Still, it's less horrible in baseball. Although since it's the Cubs, they have a decent chance of freaking out, the team and/or the fans. |

Greatest troll I've ever seen, was at Oakland Coliseum. Big tough looking mexican guy was just BOMBARDING Willie Moe Pena out in right field. And it was the good skillful kind of trolling too, because he didn't use any cuss words. Just well timed, funny insults...mostly about Pena's weight! |

| I am psyched. Personally, I'd love to see a Dodgers vs. Redsox world series, where Manny hits 4 homeruns and the Dodgers win. |

Terrible, terrible one sided commentary from Joe Buck and that other d-bag.
Why don't they just come and route for the Dodgers and admit their overwhelming man love for Manny. |

I know the feeling, back from '06 when it was Mets VS Cardinals in the NLCS. Considering his name, it was impossible for Buck to be at all impartial about the Cards. |

Actually, they weren't biased in the traditional sense. I imaging it was a corporate call that came down from the upper echelons of Fox to be more Dodger friendly during the broadcast, because of the whole McCarver incident the day before. |

Philadelphia needs this, it needs it bad. It would be nice to bring some pride back to this town.
I haven't felt this much pride for Philadelphia athletics since ECW got a national TV deal. |

I don't know if anybody else watched that Sox/Rays game last night, but it was fucking amazing.
The Joy of Sox has a great graph of the win expectancy throughout the game. The Sox had a 99.4% chance of losing at one point! |

I was watching that game, in all places, at a swanky fancy-time bar attending a "fashion" show a friend was modeling in. No one except myself and the other two straight guys could care about what was going on, and it took a lot of tipping to get the bartender to put the game on the smallest TV in the farthest corner of the place. I thought I was watching the Ray's batting practice for the first few innings. The TV was shut off around the 7th because the "show" had officially started.
Apparently I missed the BEST 8th INNING COMEBACK EVER.
Anyway, yeah. I was hoping the 'Sox would take the AFC because I wanted to see the Phillies sweep them.
Instead we're going to have the boring-est World Series ever in a stadium built for home runs.
Go Phils. |

It WAS awesome. I'm hungover.
Its about fucking time. Lidge with 61 consecutive saves. I'm going to sleep for a month now!
On a shitty note: we left Broad street just as they started looting the luggage place. And just as fires started being set in the garbage. And just as the riot police started being deployed. Saw 1 car turned on its side, and another about to be turned. Saw people walking down the street with a stop light and bottles hurled at cops.
Outside of all of that crap: I saw random hugs amongst strangers, gave 762 high fives, took part in 32 chants of some sort, and kissed a girl on the mouth and busted my lip open.
Also, fuck Joe Buck. |

103 wins. Looks like Jimmy was right.
More than anything, I feel overwhelming relief. Nice to see Pat stuck around just long enough to get a ring. Botched calls aplenty, and some weird decisions by Maddon, but fuck it, Phils are the champs, baby!
Parade is going to be crazy. |

I live just a few blocks from Broad & Market and there was a huge trashed traffic light just laying in the street. the place looked like a superhero fight occured the night before.
