Game delayed until after the end of this fiscal year. Square-Enix's fiscal year starts on April 1 though, so it may still be out in the forseeable future.
I worry that if they get tooo much more time with it, they'll be tempted to try and fix things that aren't necessarily broken. _________________

I will laugh so hard if the Eidos division of Square was the only thing keeping the company afloat. _________________

Deus Ex will be rebuild into COD BLOPS EX, to appeal to the mainstream market.

That ammo display is fucking annoying. I hope you can get rid of it in the options or is part of an optional augmentation. _________________

I'm guessing it's part of an aug. It's contextually sound.
Though you're not alone in finding it annoying, but why is that? _________________

The HUD in that demo was pretty minimal, so the ammo counter/radar etc can either be disabled or is an augmentation.
There wasn't an orange outline around weapons like in the last gameplay video so I'm guessing they're all augs. _________________ Guayaba 2600 |

I was thinking the same exact thing. And coincidentally, the mecha designs in Bounty Dog were created by Masamune Shirow and Deus Ex: Human Revolution seems to be streamlining a lot of it's geometry and mechanical augmentations to mirror the whole entire body of Masamune Shirow's work.
I want this game to be wonderful, I really do. Nay, I must admit, I froth heartily. _________________

Mind-hacking Ghost in the Shell style has been revealed as a social aug in order to force info out of people too, I believe. The catch being they'll be completely uncooperative afterwards.
Frankly, ripping off both that and Blade Runner might be the best course of action.
I do wonder if the plot will be going down the Illuminati/Knights Templar conspiracy stylings of its predecessors, since their seems to be very little hints to that effect so far and it seems more concerned with theoretical social issues relating to transhumanism. Again, this is probably not a bad call if true. Much like media based on Lovecraftian fiction, there's only so much you can do with sinister secret societies before it becomes too quickly tedious or loses all dramatic impulse. |

Sigh.
Just been skimming this, I'm still at my folks' house and have a date with an old friend in an hour so gotta get ready for that, but I'm liking a lot of the discussion showing up; I also have a sense of dread that this game is going to just not work. Not because of any one particular thing I'm seeing, just the sense that the aspects that came together in DX1 are simply Not Done Anymore, kinda like how none of the metrovanias ever quite managed to do Symphony again because the experimentation process was over and a lot of the hanging chaff that made Symphony interesting simply doesn't materialize once the formula is down.
DX may well be the kind of game that only works when it's blazing a new trail, not following an established one.
Conversely, maybe they know this and/or maybe the change of staff and publisher is enough to send it in a new direction and we'll see it pull it off. I really hope so. I want this game to be good so much. I would almost rather it wind up being ungodly, Sonic 2006 level bullshit than just being mediocre.
I'm hopeful. I'm just also kind of wary. _________________

What's the point in blazing new trails if no one is going to revisit them and hopefully build upon them anyhow?
May as well be within the same licence. _________________

Strangely, I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread, but the palette's substantially the same as Mamoru Oshii's Innocence.
Edit: This thread is the eighth result on a Google search for "Bounty Dog." I'm guessing it wasn't a hit. |

Nah, it was just one of many mediocre 90's sci-fi OVAs, but it retains a lot of appeal due to the interesting setting, high production values, and aforementioned Shirow designs. They even give a convincing reason for the overwhelmingly yellow palette: it's artificial sunlight, since it takes place in a moon colony on the dark side. |

Man, I've been on a Ghost in the Shell kick as of late and I'm not only hoping such a comparison is spot-on, I'm also hoping Human Revolution is its own deal, similarly to how the Ghost films are completely separate from Stand Alone Complex, despite using the same character.
The prequel novel to Ghost in the Shell: Innocence is about Batou trying to find his lost dog. That alone makes me want to check it out.
Oh yeah, and:

| Nitpicking, but the second Ghost movie's title is simply Innocence, further distancing it from SAC and the rest of the series (it's really Batou's story, rather than Makoto's, anyway.) They slapped the GitS name on it outside Japan so some people would actually care about it. |

I'm not sure I follow. Innocence is a sequel to the original animated film. I didn't say there were any links whatsoever with Stand Alone Complex, and drew a hopeful comparison that a similar approach is being taken with this reboot/prequel to Deus Ex. _________________

I don't like how story focused all the press is for this game. I don't give a fuck about any love story in Deus Ex. Even if its fantastic. Which it won't be. I don't care how conflicted Mr. Protagonist is. Deus Ex is fucking no nonsense and its great.
and of course I remember how all the people flipping out about how great this is going to be are all people that think Bioshock Shifted Some Paradigms so I'm a little uneasy here. |

I'm hopeful that getting into gear with previews and tie-in material this month means they're close to announcing a release date.

The Deus Ex: Human Revolution dev team (namely Steve Lalancette, programmer on DX:HR) noticed the people on the game's official forum asking a lot of questions about health regeneration and how it works. Long story short, this was tossed on the community manager's desk.
Please note: These values are currently a work-in-progress, and may differ upon the title's release. |

The first issue of the Deus Ex comic was pretty good. You can tell it's from the 2000AD school of writing, but it's promising and I suppose was an apt choice for a cyberpunk comic, after all.
What it does establish as far as the game is concerned is that Jensen got Murphy'd (Arms and legs destroyed, shot in the head, left for dead, rebuilt in Detroit) and that he's about as broken as he comes (Was taken out of rehabilitation too quickly, refused counselling back in his SWAT days, can't hide his reservations too well no matter how hard he tries to bury his issues down, his on/off girlfriend didn't survive the hit on his workplace...) which makes for more interesting player characters usually, since you can be just as consistent trying to redeem your humanity as you are rejecting it, and even being completely schizoid about it. Oh yeah, and FEMA is going to be a villain again, which got a good laugh out of me and it channels Innocence with a Brecht poem recital during a helicopter ride.
Also for a laugh:
| Dennis Farrell's most plausible response wrote: |
| "Those multiple pathways didn't go over well with the focus test group. Trim it down to one pathway for every goal, in a corridor lined with cover, leading to a cutscene." |
And if you're curious, Amazon USA has an extract of the upcoming tie-in novel:
| Quote: |
| From the window of the great house it was possible to see the summit of Mont Blanc on a good day, a clear day when the sky was a perfect shade of teal and unhindered by clouds. There still were days like that, once in a while. Those moments that were rare and becoming rarer still, when clouds gray as oil-soaked wool graced Geneva's ornate streets with a moment of weak sunshine; but for the most part, the city remained wintry and wet, as summers became something that were spoken of by parents and grandparents to children with no experience of such things. |
